This lady - this is exactly how I answer when my doctor asks me whether I've been eating healthy and moderating the consumption of alcohol. I reveal all the concerning parts in bits and pieces, giving him time to digest the information and allowing him to gradually accept the extent of my stupidity and hopefully not explode on me.

I am always shocked by how many people are buying these $34,000 dollar cars and seem to be going upside down right away. I mean, there are so many good used cars out there for less than 15k. I honestly don’t get it. I get people want new cars, but unless you are extremely financially stable, I think buying a new car is crazy risky. Buying an already depreciated used car seems like a no brainer.

A lot of people don't understand finances, because they were not any classes in school that offer financial advice or show how to not spend more than you earn. Since approx 70 % of our economy is based on consumer spending, i think keeping people not knowing about finances is done by design. Keep people poor and ignorant, keep them poor so they spend their money on friday and have to go back to work on Monday!!

CarMax routinely advertises that they will "buy any car", and they will. They quickly split up any vehicle they buy into two categories: Vehicles that they can sell on their lot, and vehicles that they can't sell and will send to a wholesale auction. If you have a desirable model that they know they can sell, they'll offer more than trade in value for it. Since they mark up all their prices and they have a no-haggle policy, they know they can still make money off the sale. If these people have a vehicle that CarMax thinks they can sell, then it will probably get them almost as much as selling it to a private party, and the process will be much easier. If not, then CarMax will give a low-ball offer because they plan to take the vehicle to a wholesale auction where they'll get far less money for it than a car that can be sold on their lot.

So I wish I could ask DR directly but. Here goes. We have two cars paid for. A 2013 Corolla and a 1998 Volvo wagon. No problem there. The only thing is, our 3 kids (14,9,almost 2) are getting big and we almost don't fit on either car -the Volvo is a bit more comfy, but still not enough if inlaws or friends are riding with us. SO... We are discussing a minivan or a 7 seater SUV. We could either trade in the Corolla (10K) or sell the Volvo for about 2K. Thinking about a 22K used Sienna or Highlander. What would you do? Our income is pretty tight at the moment -we're gonna start renting our basement in order to stay on the black.
@rayemanuel7460
@rayemanuel7460 4 жыл бұрын
I own a Corolla like yours. You will not get anywhere close to $10K for it as a trade in; the most you can expect even in a private party sale is around $7K. So, if you put down $7K on a 22K SUV or minivan, you can expect a payment of around $300 per month.

I heard a guy brag how he only pay about $750 for his brand new truck. I was shocked to say the least because he had 2 other vehicles which were pretty new. I won’t judge because he was probably a billionaire.

It seems people who make a lot just go a bit crazy with their money, thinking they've "arrived" at some pinnacle of success, and they want everyone to know how successful they are. Cars and homes are the prime way of demonstrating this, even though they get into horrible debt. Then they spend money like no tomorrow, and don't pay off what they already have. You should see some people's walk-in closets and garages! So sad.

Sell the 10k car. Use those savings to save up to sell the 40k car. Sue the dealer for fraud if they didn’t disclose that it was salvaged. That is very illegal.

Currently in this position. Think I may have found a loop hole. 10,000 upside down.. I'm thinking trade it in for a new car. get every dealer discount plus rebate possible. Drive that to the next dealer trade new car in for another new car with every dealer discount and rebate hopefully that will knock of most of the negative equity. I'll find out tomorrow if it works.

It’s not uncommon. No different than a person using their house as an ATM machine. They roll their negative equity into their next car loan. They almost have no choice; they can’t sell a car that is worth less than they owe, and they have to have a newer one so they roll it over. It’s a disease

I am 18 and own a landscaping company . A couple months ago I bought a truck( my first car) . It’s a great truck but i was just thinking if i should have done it different. I bought it myself for $5,800 cash and it has some small wear and tear issues but nothing to stop it from running. Since it’s going to be used so much from landing and the commute to school (about 50 miles per day to college )do you think i should have financed a truck in better condition for like 8-10 k? I’m not thinking of doing this at all but just was wondering. Thanks

My 2012 Volvo S60 was paid off within 36 months of the purchase on a $26,000 loan at 9.5% APR when I bought it 8 years ago. Today it is not worth $5,000. So I decided to keep it until the wheels fall off. However, it is not the wheels that are going to fall off but the transmission will need overhaul soon at $2,500 or more and the engine is starting to burn oil at triple the rate from last year at 130,000 Km on the clock. So, it's due for a newer engine, perhaps a $2,500 long-block plus labor. I have another car, a 1995 GMC Jimmy that is holding better despite its age and run at 350,000 Km. The transmission of the Jimmy was overhauled two year ago and its paid for. The engine doesn't burn oil. It burns gasoline though! Should I bite the bullet and sell my nicer ride (Volvo) for scrap money value to avoid the costly repairs?

Unless there is actually a reason the vehicle is unsafe and can't be made safe, there is no reason to get rid of a formerly salvaged vehicle. I sold them (always disclosed). I bought then and drove them. I sold them to my family and got them great cars for the money.
