I think you really got a lot of what it's trying to say, it's both references to what's actually happening in the world, but also it's part of their starset "narrative" that has been told over all of their albums.

I adore this reaction. Most people are like "Cool song" You go so much deeper and get into meaning, and initial discussion. Starset has become my favorite band partially for style but they spark my creativity, and I love the story they tell with their music, listening to an album front to back with the outro's is so much more compelling than any other band I can think of, its like one giant song not a grouping.

Something really cool about the name of the song, it's not De-evolution, it's Devolution, the opposite of a revolution. It's a song about a species literally becoming so complacent that they're devolving at a rapid rate.

Some thoughts on the Lord of the Flies bit: "While the Lord Of Flies is opening its maw And the wolves are taking out their claws You still eat straight from the paw" I think this may be a direct reference to the pig head in the book, which is a symbol for the worst traits of humankind as the children revert back into a beastly state without much rule or order. So the song seems to imply "as we become monsters once more, going backward to our old habits of survival, the wolves/problems/crises that surround us are preparing to eat us for dinner, all as we continue to follow a facade of governance and 'eat/believe' in the promise of change." The pig head has an almost satanic role in the book. And as the kids begin to fight with each other, some of them die off in horrid ways. Some of them go with the flow for the sake of it. None are immune to the brutality of natural instincts becoming untamed. I think this song is somewhat a commentary on that reversion, and a warning of what may be to come (or is already occurring) with extremist sentiments on the rise in all areas of life. The idea that we must fight with blood and brawl rather than discuss and debate is becoming more and more accepted, and it's that exact "spiral downward" that leads to the death of many children in that novel. Just one interpretation. But Lord of the Flies is definitely one of the darkest fiction books out there and one that fits well with this theme of going backwards.

I know I'm late to the party but when Dustin is saying lord of flies he is talking about a demon known as bealzibub which roughtly translates to lord of flies or devil. Which some people interpret that said demon as a version of Satan.
