So incredibly tragic. I'm 67 years old and I have a lot of bad days and when I see things like this, I give myself a kick in the butt and realize how lucky I am to have made it this far, bad days and all. Well done Jordan as always.

I was born and raised in Huntington, and we all remember where we were when we received the phone call about the crash. We lost our doctor and many of my friend lost both parents that day. It was a tremendous loss for the entire town. I have been living in Charlotte for the past forty years but recently moved back to care for my 90yo mom. I started watching you about a year ago and enjoy your fabulous adventures, it inspired me to start a channel. Thank you! .I wish I had known you were in town. Merry Christmas and many blessings!

Jordan, also buried at the memorial is Nate Ruffin. He was one of the players who was injured and didnt make the trip. He died many years later of cancer, but wanted to be buried with his fallen family. To answer one of your questions about the children left behind, 70 lost one parent. 18 children lost both parents. 50 years later, and this accident still impacts our community and our school.

I went to Marshall University. The ceremony where the fountain is turned off is so sad and touching. I remember when this crash happened, even though I was a child. My parents loaded us up and headed to Huntington right after the crash happened. (I live about 40 minutes away.) The whole community was shocked and in mourning. My late friend Pat was attending MU at the time and was friends with a lot of those players in the crash in addition to the members of the “young” and upcoming Thundering Herd. She loved MU and missed her lost friends until the day she died. May they all RIP. 😢

Jordan, thank you for your respectful, touching tribute to those who passed in this horrific disaster. I am from Ashland, Kentucky. Only about 10 miles from the Huntington airport. Years ago, I heard an urban legend that for some time after the crash, planes flying from tri-state airport would dip their wings. It was a salute to those killed in the Marshall University crash.

This tragedy reminded me of my cousins passing away the same way back in February 15, 1970. She was a member of the Puerto Rico women's national volleyball team called The Pinkies. They were flying back from a game in the Dominican Republic when the plane crashed. No one survived except for the team captain who decided to take another flight. I wasn't born yet but I remembered my aunts home had a large hallway where you saw my cousins picture and all of her trophies & medals. It was a mini museum. So sad what happened to her & her team. To this day, the town where she grew up still has the arena named after her and a statute of her. I've seen both in person. There's a plaque as well but I haven't returned to see it.

My husband is a pilot. It is sad because most air crashes are caused by pilot error. I have not read the NTSB report on this crash, you can find it at the FAA website. You mentioned the altimeter, if they were landing & in contact with the tower there may have been something else going on with the plane. RIP Thundering Herd, 1970. Thank you JTL for a respectful video & sweet memorial.

Jordan. In 1970 Freshmen weren't eligible to play. That's is mostly who survived. Probably a fee injured players as well. Freshmen weren't even allowed to travel with the team. About 8 years ago I became friends with a Freshmen on that team. I never talked about the crash. I figured if he wanted to talk about it he would. He never did. Sadly he passed from cancer last year.
