Without our dignity that comes from God, we are just cosmic accidents. This is a humbling realization, but one that can also be empowering. Fr. Mike says we often misunderstand humility because we think it involves thinking less of ourselves. What it really involves is greater focus on God’s power and goodness, because he is the source of whatever power and goodness we have.
As C.S. Lewis wrote, “A really humble man will not be thinking about humility. He will not be thinking about himself at all.”
Fr. Mike is also a presenter in these faith formation programs from Ascension:
Belonging: Baptism in the Family of God (bit.ly/2vQgGRx)
Chosen: This is Your Catholic Faith (bit.ly/2nCKKLK)
Altaration: The Mystery of the Mass Revealed (bit.ly/2vG9KX2)
YOU: Life, Love, and the Theology of the Body (bit.ly/2raspVB)

Michael Rogers Ireland has a bad history with the Catholic church because of the abuse of priests that came out also most people don't belive anymore because of the church so that's why they now want yo separate the state and the church also when pope francis came to Ireland two months ago he really failed to apologise to the victims who were abused it was a very poor turn out most people here are really done with religion which I think its sad because this generation needs god more than anything

" Goodness doesn't come from what you do/can do...it comes from what you are." This is the reason why we need priests. They translate to us the words of God in a way we can understand but at the same time, not distort its truth.

I'm surprised by my own humility lately. I think there is nothing more to say. My life feels difficult right now. And the universe has sent me gifts of energy from human beings. I am filled with gratitude. Loving gratitude. I feel powerless. But I can remember a time when my life felt totally fulfilled and I said nothing to anyone about how I felt. I danced as if no one was watching and it felt joyful.

Humbling oneself actually leads one to true hatred of God due to His greatness and majesty, it removes any love for God and makes the man who humbles himself hate his superiors for their superiority- I know that, because it did exactly that to me.

Hey Father Mike! Thanks for sharing, and for reminding us what true humility is. My question is, how can we relate this to romantic love? When people look for someone, we normally look for good qualities in a person. We look for whether they’re confident, good-looking, adventurous, shares the same hobby, funny, etc. And, we usually stray away from bad qualities like self-deprecation (self contempt), dishonesty, complacency, laziness, etc. How can we keep the goodness and dignity of a person in mind, without compromising on the qualities the person actually has? How can we remember the goodness and dignity of someone, while not just “giving someone a chance”? I hope this question makes sense!

I came across a video a while back that was titled life has no meaning or something along those lines. Anyway, the title caught my attention and I decided to watch it. What I heard was 30 minutes of new-age rhetoric with a bit of surface-level astrophysics tossed in to lend it an air of credibility because so many people are in love with and worship science these days. It was a very nihilistic piece with a basic premise that everything is random therefore nothing matters. The narrator also made the argument that since everything is random we get to decide what makes us happy and sad and should be free to pursue that. But then he reminded people even if they achieved happiness it wouldn't really matter because someone had already done whatever they did so it's no big deal. He was making the same argument as the serpent in the garden only this time even the devil was a cynic. The sad thing is, the video had over a million views and close to 10,000 comments from people, many of them seemingly young, who were thanking this guy for highlighting the meaninglessness of their existence. They were like, thank you so much, I feel so much better now or thank you for finally putting into words what I have been feeling my whole life. He's free to have and share his philosophy on life but to have so many people cheer him on while not one person challenged him. It made me realize how broken we really are. I asked him why he believed what he believed in the comment section but no one got back to me. I guess they thought I was trolling. Felling like you have no purpose is a terrible way to go through life but it is also a lie. Everything in the universe serves a purpose or it could not exist. God doesn't throw dice and he doesn't create something or someone just because. That was what I wanted those thousands of people to realize. So very sad.
