Ripping the beard off is called a "Toolook Pull" in the comics. It's a way for a Viltrumite to prove they are a Viltrumite. This is because it takes immense strength to rip off the beard in one pull and a high degree of invulnerability to not bleed or feel any pain in the process.

What I love about Invincible is how realistic it portrays the superhero lifestyle. There would absolutely be more than one threat taking place at the same time & sometimes not everyone is going to come out of their battles unscathed.

The thing with the Lizard League, they weren't a problem.. when you have the Immortal tank the big guy, Robot to strategize, Markus for the backup strength, and Bulletproof. Plus, there's a flashback to where they gave the original Guardians a handful until Omni Man showed up. Once King Lizard broke out, and regained control, they were back to being a threat.

The Shrinking Rae scene was way more gruesome and disturbing in the show than it was in the books, it made my stomach churn. Glad to see that you ladies caught the fact that all the heavy hitters superheroes are off earth and the remaining Guardians were caught off guard and were a little cocky going into the battle. I think if they took it a bit more seriously and one of the heavy hitters was there, the battle with the Lizard League would have went down much differently.

Just a quick reminder viltrumite DNA is so pure all of Nolan’s kids are practically full viltrumite so mark and his brother and more viltrumite than human or thraxan probably upwards of 90% for mark and it gets stronger as they age

The thing about the Lizard League always being a joke until now it that in the previous encounters with them the heroes always had a counter to the big guy, either some other super strength/invulnerable hero that can go toe to toe with him or an Atom Eve or Robot that have other tools to deal with him besides physical combat. So yeah, the observation you made about the heavy hitters being away and them being overconfident was entirely on point.

Invincible is the best when it comes to showing the realism and stakes of superhero work. Both the pretty and ugly sides. And realistically, things get messy fast if the chess pieces are placed in the wrong places

Pretty sure their idea was to send anyone/everyone who couldn't be controlled (AKA, those who had great durability & could do massive damage). The ONLY exception was Eve, but she joined last second. Debbie might not be superpowered, but she is most definitely a hero and who is one of the strongest characters in the show. Her kindness, steadfastness and compassion is so beautiful and admirable. Not many people, especially justifiably scorn women who take in and take care of the man who wronged them kid. Yet, Momma Debbie did so with little to no hesitation. Debbie is one of the best mom in fiction.

Mark's brother appears as young to us as Mark appears to Nolan. Everybody he knows and loves will perish over and over before he starts to become an adult. The difference is perspective. To us 18 years is long, to Nolan it is nothing. To us a 6 month old baby isn't that long to the Thraxan's it's half their life.
