Hello Trev and Sue, hope your both keeping well. Im really looking forward to spring and this years growing , we need to grow more than ever to keep the cost of living at the gate. I think we are getting close to 80% self sufficient now. Look out for fuel prices ! they could go through the roof ! the world is changing fast. I must admit though now is the time to be old and retired ! ha ha they are the ones finding it easy. Several years back we had a big doe get hit early in the morning directly in front of our house. I know she was well fed because she had spent a lot of the winter sharing the round hay bale with my sheep in the back of the pasture. We took advantage of it as well. Delicious. No need to just let it lay and rot. BTW... where road kill dining is concerned... Always use your nose and common sense. If it doesn't smell rotten, or look rotten it likely is safe to eat. Be sure to thoroughly cook (as in well done) any road kill dinners as a precaution as well.

Great fun and self sufficiency can still be had on an allotment and you have the benefit of the older people there giving advice. The state that the economy is in being self sufficient on a small holding is now making more sense than ever and things are going to get worse before they get better ! we are about 80% self sufficient now. Its taken 15 years to get to this stage ! so hurry up before your too old ! ha ha i wish i was younger ! thanks for your kind words and take good care.

Hello, i did not realise this was you as your user name has changed and yes im not up to date on my comments as per usual. Its great to hear from you, hope your keeping well. Yes the system i feel is going to collapse in the future and something new with big changes will happen. I just wish these changes would hurry up !!! so we can all have some stability again. Self sufficiency will always work for any crisis ! We are adding a few things this year to help us become more self sufficient, i want to get my bio gas up and running, a large greenhouse will be going up and im going to get my electric velomobile / trike up and running. Good for you! We live in SW France in a very rural region and we find wild boar, pheasant and deer road kill all the time. We've had to buy another chest freezer to store it all. Waste not, want not I say! "Cracking"!? The system's f****d as far as I can see!

sadly they made it illegal to do this where i live.i even asked the game warden and everything he told me they actually got sued by scammers that way. they now leave them to rot on the side of the road for a while and then the road maintenance guys (that never do any maintenance) then pick up the rotten corpse and dump it in the trash. i am poor and they rather have us get in horrible health instead of DIY'ing something. they started actually swiss siding people on request instead of helping them.

The speed they drive down this road the poor deer's don't stand a chance and I'm glad their cars get wrecked ! of an evening and at night we drive just 30mph as there are so many deer running out. I F ing hate people round here though as they have big 4x4's or jags and will not use muddy pull ins down narrow country lanes, they run you off the road so they don't get their cars dirty ! posh bloody twats thinking they own the road ! ha ha , thanks and take good care.

For a second I thought you were approaching a doggo! I bought a second hand freezer off a guy on gumtree, got talking, he says his mate works on an estate (no, not the council sort) and culls deer and his other mate butchers it, flogs it for practically nothing to friends and family. I got his number but have never had the courage to make the call 😢

So glad you got venison for free, hooray! Back to medieval peasant mode, huh. Depends on location, but it was common to be prohibited from hunting big game which belonged to lords and ladies, lowly folk were allowed to retrieve small game like rabbits, so feeling like venison is an expensive and rare treat is not a new or modern one.

Hello Dave, hope all is well. Last week we minced it up and made burgers. Lovely ! its lovely being older because i no longer care what others think. We even done a bit of skip diving at the back of mountain warehouse, wow ive got some real nice cloths and trainers, new with tags ! the black coat in the video also came from that. It still had the tags on and had a little tiny hole in the pocket which i stitched up. I do love free stuff !!! ha ha . thanks Dave take good care.

Hello, its good to hear from you, hope your growing is going well, i did see one of your videos a while back and your first harvesting this year was very early ! hope your veg growing is keeping the cost of living at bay. Im now too busy to put videos up. A new puppy is taking up a lot of time and we are teaching it to hunt truffles in the forest and im growing quite a lot of veg here as usual. Also about to collect 10 very cheap ( giving the bloke a good drink ) girl turkey chicks to grow on for meat. The farm wants to keep boys only as they grow larger ! so getting rid of the girls/ culling chicks ! crazy ! Thanks and take good care, perhaps a video from me when im not as busy.

We had them in with our ducks, they got on so well until my turkey scalped the duck! No idea why! We put the turkey in the freezer as we don't keep mean animals! New puppy is so exciting. How is the season for you? It's been ok bit the best one for a while I think! We are trying to get more and more self-sufficient so when something don't work we are gutted you know what it's like. I dont eat meat anymore, but a do it yourself life style is best if you can do it. You done nature a favour. The creature was killed by accident i imagine. But the corpse would of attracted other animals that would feed on it or other deer that might have gone to it. That would of put them creatures in danger with the traffic. You took a piece for youself & left the rest to nature in a place away from traffic danger. You have done the other creatures & road users a favour really.
