Hey mate, just and option but have you ever tried when you hook up whack the motor in gear and give it shit for maybe 50 to100 metres to skull drag the fish you are hooking away from the sharks.That way you might get a couple up and see what they are.A bit of a pain in the arse but would be interesting to see if they are reds.good luck

When i pro fished the fraser area the only way to get fish through the sharks was to use large deck winchers espesaly out in the 150m and beyond of water the big reds liked the broken ground around lumps but not always on top of them one meter ledgers and wire weed and flower pot coral or what comes up as green or yellow on the older fruno sounders fraser island as a full time fisherman the weather was only good for about 60 days a year and the efit to get there is why it still has good fish offshore if you get it all the ducks in a row its easy to fill the fish box the best we got one trip was 600 kg of perlys for the afternoon between 4 crew and in the toyota fishing comp lots of good fish hit the beach from the shelf so keep having a go and you will get the ducks in will come into line good luck and wind like f@@k

I know its cheating a bit but try a electric reel the bubble trail on the way up confuses the sharks and your catch rate goes up i know it take the fun out of it but hey catch more fish

Your should try driving away as soon as you hook up . Sharks will thing they are not struggling and won't target the fish
