For anyone curious about Pike's occasional absences, her player Ashley Johnson was busy filming a show in a different part of the country for a portion of the campaign, and sometimes would be able to join remotely so they used the "projected Pike" as a way of being like. Also ( typing this during season 2 episodes so I understand y'all might already be aware, I'm guessing these were made months ago) - Matt Mercer, the DM , plays several voices in the show. So many of the npcs they meet in various episodes are voiced by him, since in the game he plays all non party members. - There ARE permanent character deaths across the various campaigns. So in the campaign, there are rolls and checks for resurrection. If someone dies, they very well can be dead forever. In fact in the campaign Percy came back I believe in the next episode, but was close to not doing so. For the sake of television they extended his death and made the requirements for coming back more circumstantial.
@RealMythixАй бұрын
I think they mentioned they wanted death to feel more real, more serious, so they made it harder for the show to bring someone back and give it actual punishments cause in D&D it can be pretty easy if you have a cleric.
@PickledRamonaАй бұрын
@@RealMythix yeah I really like how they’ve been handling death because while death is still impactful and scary in game is definitely could feel very temporary as watchers of the show because there aren’t failed saves. @XorlanduАй бұрын
Yeah the not coming back/chance of failure when resurrecting thing is something Matt does specifically in his games to give a little drama/weight to a death and to simulate the characters "willingness" to come back coming into play. In the base rules you just need a cleric/druid(other classes can get it from subclasses) high enough level to cast the appropriate spell and the spell components. Lowest level rez you can do at character lvl 5 for 100g worth of diamonds but it has to be within 1 minute of death. The highest level you can pretty much cast no matter when the person died and no matter the state of their body (can even not have that anymore) and it will bring someone "willing" back, the spell components just cost 25k gold.
@ArcherWillowsАй бұрын
@@RealMythix it also didn't help that in the campaign, vox machina died A LOT, and pike was REALLY GOOD at rolling high on those resurrections. I mean, every single member of the party died at least once, and only like 2 of them died only once. Vex died like 3 times at minimum. Scanlan died twice less than five episodes apart. Pike only failed like one resurrection roll, and she just moved up to the next spell at succeeded. Vox Machina was REALLY lucky with resurrections. Edit: if i remember correctly, the only members of vox machina who have died only once are keyleth and pike. pike's death was prestream, and keyleth's was kind of a joke. the character with the most deaths is vax, who has four deaths.

5:13:12 the "Calamity" story Zerxus mentions is from a mini-series that Critical Role did, an actual play over 4 sessions (about 20 hours of play). Luis Carazo played Zerxus in the game, and also voices the character here. I truly hope it gets its own animated series or movie, because it's a fascinating tale about the fall of an ancient magical civilization and the start of a war between the gods. Zerxus plays a paladin who gets manipulated by a devil from the Hells, so his appearance here is all the more tragic knowing where he started.

Also, some Critters have already made videos comparing the live play to scenes from the animated series, it's fun to check out. The actual campaigns have literally hundreds of hours of live play video per campaign. It's a lot but fun to watch when you have the time. Almost none of us are actual caught up at the same time on the live play stream--mainly I let episodes build up for a coupe of months then spend a week or so binging them :) Also, as a FYI, Vax and Keyleth's relationship is easily the most... heart-wrenching of any in the Critical Role world. Don't become a Raven Queen's champion or live for a thousand years, is all I'm sayin'.

They’ve definitely made resurrection far more difficult and rare in the series as opposed to the game. It’s made very clear that Percy’s resurrection only works because his soul was right there in the gun, and it still incurs a heavy cost. There were plenty of deaths in the game, like each member of Vox Machina died at least once, Scanlan died to Raishan as opposed to just entering a coma here. I think they do want to only choose the deaths that had the most impact, Vex and Percy’s deaths were definitely the ones that had to be adapted.

Tiny details for you all: Pike is a cleric, not a paladin. Paladins are pretty strict in their moral codes. But either one runs into trouble with their magic if theyre not in alignment with their god's teachings. And dragons can talk on their own. They're not people that turn into dragons. Dragons have magic and enough intelligence to speak. If anything, its the other way around. They're dragons that can shape-shift into people.

Just a little explanation about the "hater" head of the council with keyleth at the end there: Keyleth is in the middle of her aramente, basically her apprenticeship, and is straight up behind schedule. So it doesn't really look like she's up to the task for outside eyes. She then strolls up into a council meeting, when she should stay far away from any of that kind of stuff in her attempt to proving her worthiness for it, demands to speak and asks for a very powerful, secret and dangerous ritual that could easily kill her.

This isn't spoilers, it's entirely things you can pick up through watching the show. - We've seen that figure before, very briefly, when Lady Briarwood struck Pike and she was trying to reach the Everlight. (1:25:07 in this video) - Lady Briarwood told Silas to "trust in the Whispered One, for WE ARE HIS BLOOD." (1:32:36 in this video) - After the Whispered One kinda showed up, he left a spinning black orb with purple lightning in his place. (2:00:41 in this video) - Xerxus says "WE ARE HIS BLOOD, and the time of his ascension draws near." (Not shown in this video, but it happens immediately after he tells Yenk to kill the rest of Vox Machina) - Now, a bunch of cultists surrounding a black spinning orb with purple lightning are chanting "WE ARE HIS BLOOD," and the figure appears. That one whispering ass motherfucker if I've ever seen one. Can't wait for season four.

That ending scene I believe was the creature that Delilah made a pact with in season 1. Remember that “orb” is still under White Stone.

The best part of the video was watching that they still occasionally messed up which one was Vax and which was Vex, which was the whole joke in the live game lol.

Percy trying to keep eye contact is the best part of that scene in my opinion

I died a LOT in dnd campaigns and i just have to roll up a new character sheet and we try to introduce or work them into the story. its a running gag in my party that ive been playing with for about 10 years now that my characters always die first lol.

They forgot about the whisper dude from season one. Also Percy was never properly dead. If you paid attention you could see this possibility.

It’s funny in of itself, critical roll was like, “we want to make an animated special” and the fans were like “you mean an entire animated series right” and CR goes “um no we meant” the fans went “nonsense here’s 11.5 million don’t spend it all in one place”. And well here we are.

4:34:25 The show is only based on the game, and the further the show goes on the more it deviates. Most of the stuff Erik is attributing to rolls or the DM is stuff made up in the writer's room for the show.
@Klausbro21 күн бұрын
I wouldn’t go as far as to say “made up.” The entire storyline is based on the show, and many of the beats are the same, but due to this medium we can see things like villain motivations and npcs talking that we couldn’t exactly see before, so instead of telling the exact same story, we’re being told a slightly newer one that still is satisfying to the new and old viewer

Enjoyed watching all of this all the way through with y'all. and just for clarification, characters can, and do die permanently in Critical Role campaigns. Vox Machina also all died multiple times, but there are situations where there's no coming back. Actually, Vex's death in season 2 was one of those situations. She got hit by a curse from the Goddess of Death in her own temple. No rolls allowed, but then Liam's cry gave Matt an idea and led to actual re-birth, but at a tremendous cost. So, don't get too comfy. It does happen.

The Legend of Vox Machina is amazing, and you can enter the world of Critters only that far if you so choose, but this animation is only the tip of the Critical Role Iceberg. There is so much more story, and lore, and behind the scenes' media available it can be daunting, but you never have to take in more than you chose. Just know that there is 10 years of creativity and love for storytelling invested in this Universe. In fact for some idea. Hello! So... I confess, the following comment is a copy and paste of one I wrote quite a while back, have tweaked several times, and so now I fall back on it to give a Critical Role explanation. Yes, it's a bit longer than average, but... there's A LOT of stuff to cover, I summarized as best I could. Welcome to the world of Critters. Once upon a time, many years ago a talented voice actor was about to have a birthday, and to celebrate Matt Mercer, another well-established voice actor and talented GM (Game Master) offered to run a role-playing game for a group of friends... who also all happened to be voice actors. So, a group of nerdy ass voice actors sat around and played D & D. The group had so much fun they made it a regular thing, Felicia Day of 'Geek and Sundry' heard about this game and approached them with the idea of streaming it... and it became a hit in its field, eventually growing into its own company and channel known as Critical Role. Parting on good terms with their previous home, Felicia Day has a small role in the beginning of episode 2. Vox Machina was the group of characters they played in Campaign One, there has also been a Campaign Two, in which the cast plays a whole new group of adventurers. Both are set in the same world, but on different continents, and Campaign Two is set a few decades after the end of Campaign One. Each campaign ran for over a hundred episodes which are all over three hours long, and we are over 110 episodes into Campaign Three. They have also put out a bunch of other content, from talk shows to shorter games in other Role Playing worlds. They have played live shows to sold out theaters, become the number one channel on Twitch, have merch stores in multiple countries, have comics and actually published books of fan art (there are some talented as F*** Critters) they also started a nonprofit charity to... "Leave the World a Better Place." The whole cast would all tell you that they never expected any of this, that it has been a wild ride and they are just trying to hold on and be worthy of it. A few years ago they started looking into the possibility of an animation, but no one was buying, or at least not on their terms, so they went to the Critters to try and raise upwards of $700,000.00 over the course of 45 days in order to make a two-part special for themselves and their fans.... The Critters laughed, and smashed through not just the goal amount, but also ALL of their stretch goals within an hour. By day 45 they had raised nearly 11 and a half million dollars, added a bunch more stretch goals, and the two-part special became a season. Amazon took note and basically funded a second season (3rd season was green lit just before season 2 dropped) to get the streaming rights, but the show is created by Critical Role. Those Nerdy Ass Voice actors are the producers and have full creative control. Most of the people they hired, from writers to artists and composers are also fans who love and know the story and its world. It is one of the truest examples of a project of love I have ever seen. During the production of season one of the animation they put out a series of videos to keep their fans in the loop of how things were going. Interviewing the people behind the scenes and giving mostly non spoiler info about the production. It's a good watch and will really help you understand the devotion and love that went into this project, as well as introduce the cast, the people who created these characters and this amazing story. Personally, how the lead composer got the job is one of my fav stories. Here is that play list, FYI best to watch after season one. (P.S. Critters like me will watch you react to it.) kzbin.info/aero/PL1tiwbzkOjQwJdoNetaNJE1zZVOE7xi8u The latest big news is that Amazon has signed off on producing a season based on the Campaign Two group, known as The Mighty Nein! And no I did not misspell Nein. They have also reached a multi year agreement that Amazon gets the first look at any new shows OR movies Critical Role wants to produce. Many a fans ears perked up at the mention of possible movies given the popularity of a particular 4 episode and done Campaign, “Exandria Unlimited Calamity” It is a separate adventure set in the same world, but way, WAY, before Vox Machina's or The Mighty Nein's Time. The latest, latest news, Critical Role now has their own streaming service called Beacon. They in no way limited the access people had through the other streaming sites but do offer some exclusive content on Beacon. I signed up right away as it is a very reasonable cost. Critical Role gives me more joy in a month than my weekly treasured latte, so I figured they deserve direct support from me for about the same price once a month. Once again, welcome to this new world, hope you enjoy your visit and stay for a while... it's a devoted community with a lot of heart... and dicks... so many dicks... LoL. Let Chaos Reign!
