Hello, all! Regarding the silver wheels, it was brought to my attention after the fact that these are actually standard equipment on the Premium and Premium Plus. The dark wheels are a no-cost option that the dealer can choose to select and for whatever reason appears in the builder online. So NO, the dealer did not swap anything and we had this vehicle reserved from the time it left Japan so it could not be altered (our Lexus dealer doesn’t do that anyhow). Further, if ANY dealer were to do a wheel swap on a new vehicle, they are legally required to include an addendum that lists any aftermarket equipment. So you see that on 4Runners where the dealer has swapped the standard wheels for TRD Pro wheels, for example.

I previously owned a GX460 and traded it in for a Volvo XC60. Although the Volvo had more up to date tech inside, I missed the GX. So, earlier this year, I traded the Volvo for a 23 GX 460. I’m very happy to get the old school engine before it’s phased out.

It’s funny I hear a lot of Lexus people that have tried Volvo-I had a 2016 XC90 for a while that I chose over an RX, and while I loved it there was no way I was keeping it beyond the warranty term. Their design language is beautiful but they’re down with JLR in the reliability rankings so… don’t think I’ll be looking over there anytime soon! Glad you got back into a V8 GX before they went away!

The GX 460 rocks. I am proud to say that I am one of the last dinosaurs. To own a naturally aspirated V 8 Gx460. Excellent video. Once you own a Lexus ,you never want to go back to " "ordinary " cars. No matter how expensive they might be. They will bury me with my GX. 😅

@@nateg2468 I am cool with the rear door opening up instead of to the side. I wish the rear wiper remained out of view when not in use though. I also wish the rear window still had the option to open separately from the rest of the rear door. The third row is so small and the cargo area virtually non existent when the third row is in use. I just keep it folded and use the GX like a two row vehicle.

Long time Toyota enthusiast. I still drive a 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport that I bought new. My wife really likes the new 550 but we needed something bigger and safer for this coming winter. Honestly this video convinced us to visit the Lexus dealer to test drive the 2023 GX 460. After driving a few different trims we decided on the pearl white, black interior, performance plus w/ sport package. Dealer was offering $8000 off msrp (Oct 2023) and we got what we needed for our trade in. First time buying Lexus and it was an ideal experience. So far we are loving the 460. Feels like we bought something that could survive the apocalypse or like getting a 2014 FJ before they were gone.

I just traded in our Q7 premium plus for this 2023 GX460 and its only been two weeks but we are extremely happy, its our 5th Lexus. We brought the premium version in Black but we got the Black wheels. It drives great and we still have an LX460 that we love. We payed $55K plus tax and it had 10 miles on it.

This is the last SUV v8 that Toyota is producing for the American market. No timeline was also supplied as part of the original comment so it's clear you are reading into it with a very narrow and near term mindset.

@@elguapo8751 Tundras are a different market, and depreciate differently for a number of reasons. There isn’t a cult following around a tundra like there is around the GX and 4Runner and a ton of tundra owners (at least here in Texas) dumped their old tundras for new ones, so the market got flooded (there’s also a surplus of new and pre-owned Tundras) Now, whether the GX will appreciate the way my 4Runner did remains to be seen, but I think they’ll hold their values better than the industry average.

I just bought a one owner 2011 GX460 Premium in Black with 89K miles for 18.8K last week. I love every bit of it, including the rear air suspension. No regrets!

Ahh! Main reason to buy brand new is 1) you can make sure the break in period is done correctly. Which is mostly don’t floor it first 1000miles 2) oil changes. I’d do a breaking oil change at 1000. And definitely do every 5k oil change. This is from master tech at Toyota for over 30 years! Cheers!

I just got a 23 luxury GX with the off-road package and towing package. Caviar with red interior. This is my 4th GX. The 23 model in my opinion is the best V-8 full frame SUV ever built. This truck is perfected in every way with the long run they have had. I truly believe it’s a million mile vehicle if taken car of. Don’t know how the heck I did it, but I got it for $9,000.00 below sticker!

I got it at Cerritos Lexus in California. The ride quality is as good as you can get with a full frame truck. Are you talking about the 2024 GX 550 coming out in the next few montys?@@Vasudykakutumbam

Agree...love my 22 GX Premium Plus in Atomic Silver. I think this particular color and line up goes best with the dark wheels. I too intend to keep my GX for a long time...and plan on stopping to offer other broken down electric cars off the road any type of assistance in the future - lol! GX is absolute BUTTER, no better way to put it. #GX-BUTTER!

@@nsns4009 even though it's a big car, it's relatively "compact" compared to other similarly-capable cars (e.g. Land Cruiser, F150 Raptor, G-Class). I read somewhere that it's footprint & turning circle are as small as that of a BMW 330i, even though the GX is much taller.

I have been a lover of Lexus since 2004. My last new Lexus was a 2015 RX350. Your videos are reigniting my Lexus obsession and I find you nail exactly the reasons why I have always loved this brand- especially with this car. The salesman kept telling me the GX 460 was the best but hearing that from you really seals the deal. Only thing is I did get the Luxury. Not a mechanic, so I need to do some more googling to make sense of the difference. However, I drove my new “Cloud” home (100 miles) and I told my sales person this morning that it was the smoothest ride of my life. Unbelievably, I didn’t even feel the cattle guards in the road. Congratulations, I am so happy for you and your new GX! The Luxury is a great trim with great features. Mechanically, the differences are that you have a more advanced and complex suspension setup. As such, down the line, you may need to have the air suspension rebuilt as there are literal air filled bags that fill and deflate to raise and lower the vehicle and those are a known wear issue with Lexus vehicles over time. But we’re talking 10 years or 100,000 miles. The adaptive variable suspension can be a bit more work to maintain as well, but also in the very long-term. The only reason I passed on the luxury was I personally felt like the ride was either too stiff or too floaty, but that’s purely a personal preference on my part! The other big difference is that you have semi-aniline leather which is the top-tier grade of leather and as such is open-pore and minimally treated for protection (which is the draw of it). So to keep it looking its best, you have to treat it like you would your own skin. Clean and condition it regularly and especially since you live in Arizona, be sure to get a good ceramic tint job done and always use a sunshade as UV rays from the sun can lead to it getting dehydrated and cracked just like the sun does to the skin on our bodies. Likewise, as it’s porous leather, it will stain if it takes on spills so be careful there. Otherwise, you have an absolutely amazing new car there that will last you for the next couple decades at least! Cheers!

@AR-pm9nv It’s your car, care for it how you wish but I do want to note that Toyota is actually very honest when it comes to what’s recommend and what’s required. The ES, RX, and NX all “recommend” 91 but have a stated minimum of 87 in the manual. The GX on the other hand requires and has a minimum of 91. And to @Thankyou_3’s point, you won’t “notice” a difference using regular until you hear engine knock (which happens over time when you put regular in a car that requires premium) and at that point it can be too late to fix easily and cheaply. Higher octane fuel is required when the engine is running at higher compression which may be the case with the GX. So, do you but also be careful about who you say that to because that’s a real easy way to get any kind of engine warranty claim denied for not following explicitly stated operating instructions.

Great video and congratulations on the purchase. My wife and I have a 2022 GX 460 and much like you said it is the best cruising vehicle we have ever owned. We have taken a trip from central Texas where we live to Arizona, we have done a trip to Tennessee,and getting ready to take one to Florida in a couple weeks, and honestly it drives better than any vehicle we’ve ever owned including any car except for the LS 460 which is our other vehicle. Lexus is king.

Well howdy, neighbor! You must be somewhere near me in Austin! I have yet to take mine on any long road trips but it’s on the agenda for next year. Sadly, my day job keeps me too busy to be able to plan nice long trips where I could really stretch this car’s legs but I’m hoping to take it either way out west or up to Canada next year. And the LS460 is a terrific vehicle as well. We’ll have to hold onto these for a long time since new Lexus has lost all its luster.

I completely agree with you about the ride quality and overall feel and comfort. We have a 19 that I installed a small inch and a half Dobinsons lift with the next size up BFG KO2 tires. It pulls our Casita RV trailer fantastic and does great off road. I'm still not a fan of the front end styling but it's a great all around SUV. And I love the V8 and the smooth as silk 6 speed transmission.

Oh fantastic! Lifted GXs are always fun to see. And the front end styling has grown on me. I do prefer the 19 and older grille but the full-LED headlights on the 20 and up are worth having this grille.

Really great looking vehicle and many fun filled years ahead. It was a pleasure to see the happiness with so many elements of the ride. Just wait till you give that Levinson system some love too. Download your lossless music to your phone with Apple, Amazon etc and let it loose! Honestly I enjoy the car more for the audio system than the ride itself, so well executed (was waiting in suspense to see if you went with the Levinson before mentioning - great to see you locked in the option). I’ve been thinking of picking up a 2nd GX with the luxury trim, oddly for the pano cam. But your note about the suspension difference is interesting and will keep a close eye out for that. Thank you so much! And I completely agree, and definitely wouldn’t want to drive it without the ML! That was a must have feature for us, and really the only reason for upgrading to the premium plus. As for the air and adaptive suspension, air suspension is nice but they need to be rebuilt after a while (maybe 10 years) and I didn’t see a need for it, and the adaptive suspension made it either too firm and rigid or too soft and boat-like for my personal tastes. But I think some people will really like one or the other. I wish you could get a luxury without either one of those, though. I’d have been there for that.

Everything you said about the GX is spot on. The engine is so under stressed and that shows on the acceleration. Also if your worried about the 16 MPG average , don’t worry. The new 2024 averages 17 MPG. Would rather have the simple and proven V8 vs the complicated Turbo V6

What was your breakin period before you got 18mpg, and are you using ethanol gas?

@cuongcai4309 I personally only ever see 18mpg if I’m doing mostly highway driving. On intercity road trips I can do up to 20. But in my day to day mixed driving I only see about 14-16. But it’s all dependent on your driving style and what kind of driving you do. You may never see that.

I mean if it’s paid off, maybe keep it and buy the new car on the side, but I’d highly recommend doing so! If you’re looking at a 22 GX, it’ll be nearly as expensive as a new one because of the high prices on the CPO market so I’d just buy new!

I just picked up the GX 460-2023 Luxury with the Sport Package two weeks ago. I love the ride, came from 2021 4Runner TRD Off Road. Driving with cruise control I’m getting 21 to 22 mpg.

Josh, I’m finally ready to pull the trigger on a ‘23 GX to replace my 4Runner. I’ve decided on ecru interior. I can’t decide on the three available exterior colors at my dealer - nightfall mica, caviar, and nebula grey. Any thoughts on what looks best of these three with ecru? Thank you!

@stephenmendes2289 I think it depends if you’re going to keep it clean, and I say that because caviar looks so sharp when it’s slick and clean, but if it’s going to go a while between washes, Nebula gray is drab but hides dirt and grime like nobody’s business. And Nightfall Mica I believe is only available with the sport design package which I don’t care for. Something to think about if you’re considering the sport design package, I believe it also requires captains chairs which I don’t think is useful in the GX because the third row is useless (so it’s always down for me) and when the third row is down, you have this weird hole right through the center of the second row to the cargo area.

Hi Josh, I located a nightfall mica without sport package. So given that, would that pair better with ecru as opposed to caviar? I like them both and honestly can’t decide. My preference would to have a slightly less dark version of either 😅

I got my 2023 at the end of July. My first Lexus & I love it. I liked the new design better but didn’t want to pass up on the ‘23 engine. I’m 61 and only drive about 500 miles a month - so this is it for me.

Terrific and congrats!! You probably got yours just days before I did! And I think you made the right choice. The V8 engine is better and Lexus’ new interiors are horrendously cheap feeling now. We owned the new NX, have driven the new RX, and seen the new GX and TX… they look and feel like Toyotas inside.

I’m a Toyota guy myself had several 4 runners and I also now have a 2020 Tacoma Pro I bought new in army green that I really enjoy but you can’t compare it to the comfort and power of the GX on the road .Sounds like you feel the same way that I do about all of my GX’s. I bought a new 2017 and drove it for a couple years traded it in for a sports car as I was going through that phase lol but I did miss the comfort of the GX. And like you when I heard the V8 was going away I ordered a 2022, but at that time it was hard to get my hands on one, so I put my name on a couple of list ,passed up on some color combinations until a gray one was available .I was wanting a Luxury with the sports package it was perfect . I was trying to keep the mileage down on the 2022 so I bought a 2017 from Lexus of Austin even though I’m from the DFW area ,got a heck of a deal on it for my running around vehicle. It had 95,000 miles on it, but it drove like new. My brother is going to take the 2017 off my hands because I bought a 2020 with 12,000 miles on it and that will be my road tripping and running around vehicle. Hopefully these 2 vehicles will take me far into the future. Nothing like the old school technology simple & easy but not lacking on the modern technology. We had a 2017 RX sold it ,got my wife a 2022 RX before the V6 disappeared. Thank you very much for your input on the GX. Safe travels & We’ll see you down the road.

I was thinking about getting a second GX too but… I kind of want to make this my one and only, goes everywhere and does everything car with me, not saved for best. I made that decision with my Rolex too. Wanted to baby it but then didn’t feel like I was getting my money’s worth. Same with the 4Runner. We may sell it because it just sits and I’ll warn you ahead of time, that 4Runner doesn’t drive as well as it would if it had been used every day and things like belts and the transfer cases can actually age and degrade more quickly (same with the engine) by not using it and keeping everything running and lubricated so be sure to drive the 22 at least a couple times a week and open it up on the Highway often too.

The Toyota 4Runner is great too, but I am retired and I wanted a luxury 'forever' vehicle and I wanted a V8. I do not care about gas mileage or premium gas either, as I do not drive long weekly or monthly distance and this ride is super smooth.

I love my 2020 GX I got a sweet deal right before the pandemic and got it during Lexus December to remember event for $52k. MSRP was $60k. I did miss the 22/23 infotainment update but still love the truck.

That’s such a steal! Those were the good old days. I got my 4Runner TRD Pro for invoice around that same time (late 2019, $46K). As for the new infotainment, honestly you aren’t missing a whole lot. I personally like the look of the pre-refresh dash a little better. I never use CarPlay either so I’d have been just fine with what you have!

Love my 2023 GL Luxury- the test drive definitely sold me on this model, it rides like an old limousine- smooth and quiet! The V8 has great subtle power, enough for any SUV! The premium gas and mileage is not great 15/21 hwy, but then you are not buying a GX for its fuel. economy! The new GX 2024 will be a good vehicle once all of its kinks are worked out, but it will be $8 - $10K more expensive and it will have a turbo V6! Get the 2023 GX while these last, only a few more months of GX will be built them its factory conversion time for the 2024 model.

I have the same exact vehicle in white with the light headliner and brownish seats with black carpet. I think the black wheels look good on the white pearl exterior, but agree with you on the black with the caviar exterior. I upgraded from the 2020 to get Mark Levinson and apple car play. The vehicle is now just perfect. A twin turbo v6 is not an improvement. Congrats!

Oh the Sepia is beautiful with the white exterior! I was eyeing an atomic silver exterior over sepia interior that was gorgeous too. And agreed with the black wheels on the white. I think the chrome and bling fades back on the white and you end up with a really nice contrast for the wheels. And fantastic!! So many people (judging by the comments) wanted the very last V8 GX! Im so glad we all got one while we could, and I totally agree that a turbo-6 isn’t an upgrade at all.

5:14 I remember one of my dad's previous Lexuses (he and I both have LXs now) probably 15 years ago, he wasn't immediately in love with the chrome wheels that came as part of a special package. I was with him then, picking it up, and the salesperson asked if he may want to swap the wheels with another one on the lot. He didn't end up doing it, but maybe someone got your black wheels like that.

Oh no, this is how it came from the factory, the car came in pre sold to us and Lexus would never do that without the owner’s consent. but it sounds like the dark wheels are a no-cost option that is selected in the online configurator by default but the silver wheels are technically standard, so not an error on this build!

Great review. We have the 2022 Premium Plus in Nebula Gray. The vehicle sells itself with the ride quality. It reminds me of something you would take on a road trip and cruise while everyone is speeding around you. I also test drove the luxury model that was atomic gray with the red interior just not my color choice and neither was the nebula gray but choices were very slim at the time. I believe there is a Lexus dash cam available that will work in the 2022 and 2023. Enjoy!

@Wasabi9111 Oh you may be one person I wouldn’t recommend the GX for LOL, only because I wouldn’t want to put anyone beyond small kids in the third row and not for more than a trip around town. And since it’s the kind of car you might want to keep for many years, you probably want it to be something that you can grow into which I don’t know if the GX is, unfortunately. The third row is two tiny seats that I don’t plan to use and wouldn’t want to use unless I had to. I will say if you go with the captains chairs option (I didn’t since I never plan to use the third row) it does make the whole cabin feel really open and spacious for six. But I’d highly recommend test driving it with whoever might have to sit back there and see how they like it. If not, the TX 550h+ plug in with the tried and true V6 plus super smooth PHEV drive system would probably be the next best thing.

I have owned 3 Lexus, 2015 GX, 2017 IS and 2018 NX Hybrid. The GX is the best, but currently it is in a tow yard, 50% chance of total loss. My son had zero injury. On top of the V8 engine, actually we love the practicality. When I built my fence and deck, we transported all the building materials with this one, even they are 10-12 feet long, because you can open the rear window (not the whole rear door) and stick the long 2x4 out of the window.

Massive congrats! I’m from the Philippines and I drive a J150 Prado V6. Same opinion as you, I’ve tried a four cylinder turbo diesel of the 1kd FTV and it’s nowhere near refined compared to the na v6. I’m sure the 1ur Fe v8 is just a league on its own.

Amazing!!! I would love to be able to say I own a Prado! Also, if I’m not mistaken, your V6 is the same as what’s in my 4Runner! The 1GR-FE V6. Which is an absolutely phenomenal engine. For us it gets cut short of its full potential because the 4Runner is only sold with a 5-speed auto and not the 6-speed auto I think you have.

My dad just got one of these. GX460 Premium trim, captains chairs, Mark Levingson sound system, etc…. $8000 OFF MSRP. The dealer threw in the original window sticker which had the markup originally attached onto it which they ripped off which I thought was funny. So he was able to get it $8,000 off factory MSRP. I confirmed it on the Lexus website to make sure the dealer wasn’t doing anything funny. Great vehicle. Funny thing is, we were originally looking for a pre owned one. The brand new one actually ended up being a better deal.

Yes! This is actually pretty typical of GXs right now as most people don’t want them due to their big V8 being thirsty and requiring premium fuel. Especially in markets like California where premium is between $6.50 and $7/gallon! I think we’re going to see a period where dealers are trying to sell them off, and over time the values will hold steady in the pre-owned market.

I also dislike the dark wheel; unfortunately, that is the common wheel for GX2023 models excluding the luxury model. My dealer at Indiana had to search for the one with alloy wheels and bench second row seat from other dealers before getting one for me at Johnson Lexus Of Raleigh, North Carolina. That truck drives good; I love it.

Congratulations! Very nice SUV Lexus GX. Driven Lexus V8 Engine vehicle for long period of time & then switched to V6 Lexus. California City/HW MPG is very poor with V8/V6 engines compare to other state because of heavy crowded traffic nowadays. Can’t even compare our freeway mpg with other states’ city mpg. Gas price sky rocketed to $7.52/ gallon @ summer 2022 & now $5.76 @2023. Otherwise, I think Lexus GX model is a win win deal (price & option) compare to other Lexus Series RX,NX, ES.

And I would never advise anyone entering into a situation that they couldn’t afford or get out of later, but like you say, time is running out. If you’re willing to pay over time, leasing is historically cheaper than financing as well. Not sure about currently with interest rates being astronomical, but maybe worth looking into!

Terrific! You also have the only (I think) body on frame SUV Toyota ever made with an independent rear suspension. All the rest, including the new Sequoia, have a solid rear axel. Makes for a much more compliant ride in the Sequoia.

If you can afford to keep both I would absolutely keep both because I don’t know if I’d give up the Cayenne… that’s a really special car you’ve got there. Maybe do a lease on the GX if you need the lowest payment. As for the swing out door, I personally don’t think it’s as big an issue as people make it out to be. I haven’t yet had an issue being able to open it in a parking lot or in our garage to be able to reach inside. As for the 550, I just don’t think I’ll be buying any new Lexuses going forward because they look and feel so cheap inside. The NX hybrid we had felt like a nice Rav4. But they don’t feel or look like Lexus anymore and the turbo 6 has some issues that Toyota still needs to work out. Plus like you say, there’s no beating the feeling of an NA V8!

Josh, beautiful 2023 GX460 but wheels not a mistake. 2023 premium comes with 18’ black wheels. Premium plus comes with 18’ silver wheels. Sports Design comes with 19’ black wheels. Luxury comes with 19’ silver wheels.

Great question, I will definitely figure out how I can do that, but in the meantime, the biggest thing is washing the car by hand every couple of weeks and waxing/polishing out any scuffs and swirl marks as necessary.

Our Pearl White/Ecru ‘23 GX Luxury is on its way from Japan right now - hopefully in the next few weeks we will get it. We seriously considered a Genesis GV80, but the whole dealership experience was just painful and exasperating. We also drove an MDX Advance but she just didn’t care for the styling. My wife has always loved the GX and we’re ok without all the crazy tech on vehicles these days - so the GX it is!

Congrats!!! You can’t go wrong with a GX, and definitely dodged a bullet on the GV80. The depreciation on Genesis right now is abysmal and long-term reliability is a bit of an unknown. I like the MDX but would much rather have the GX!

@@franciscoperez6356Thanks all! We agree on Ecru and I just can't wrap my brain around why so many dealers (not just Lexus) get so many black interiors as opposed to lighter more open colors. We've always had light interiors but it seems like more people like dark for some reason. Feels like a cave to me. Finding a White/Ecru was kind of a challenge - she was open to Atomic Silver with Ecru as well but that combo seemed even harder to find than what we got. That MDX Type S Advance we drove was White with Red Leather and wow was it sharp - but she didn't like it.

@billkennedy8429 Add one more to the Atomic silver and ecru being impossible to find! That was my first choice! And agree at the Ecru interior feeling so much more premium. Black on black on black feels so dark and boring.

When the 2024 GX comes out are you thinking of doing a comparison of that with your 2023 GX, because if you are, that would be awesome 🙂

Yes! I definitely hope to be able to do that at some point! I’m guessing most of them that will be coming to dealers will be pre sold to customers so it may be a while, but when I can get my hands on one I definitely will!
