Mad truck. I do body work. And I'd get a 25lts brum of thinners and wash the lot off. May take a while but it will definitely wash off if it's spray paint out of a rattle can. Then you'll know what your working with then. And that dashboard that was a blast from the past not seen a transit dash like that in 20 years. Good luck with the stripping 😭😭👍

We had a recovery transit like your purchase, chassis was totally repaired with plates, if you put a nose heavy vehicle on spec lift no steering there were heavy blocks of steel bolted to front chassis to counter act lift weight

Drove one of those Transits in New Zealand twenty years ago, a 1990 model, the paint cracking on the sides was called " Crazy Cracking" in my country. The serious side to that RR V8 is that exhaust manifold(s) may come close to brake fluid pipelines. Otherwise expensive blue hoses, curious whether Ford brakes are up to spec pulling that beast up. I also owned a CF350 Bedford jumbo 33 years ago, rather week in the brake department, constantly needing emery paper. Probably drifts in at least first, second & third gear, rather like the South African Chevrolet Firenza Can-Am. Look forward to your next episode. Be lucky to get the wheels spinning up at all with twin driving wheels on a truck that weighs nearly 3 ton,a 4.5 K redline and only about 200bhp,(which I'd bet is now actually probably nearer 160/170 at best! )Those L410 V8's are a sloth of an engine,built for smoothness and torque rather than outright power and they rev at a glacial pace.

@@SleafordRecovery Loved watching your Transit progress, in NZ forty years ago, we also received Falcon powered aussie assembled Ford Transit RWD with the inline 6 cylinder 3.3 litre (200ci) and 4.1 litre (250ci) alongside the Cortina also from aussie. We also got the UK Cortina in both CKD & CBU. The UK / Aussie model conversion goes as follows Mk3 = TC, the Mk4 = TE, and Mk5 = TF. Those transits 6 cylinder used in aussie outback for rural delivery contractors would have been about 1977-83, I think that was the XD - XF Falcon, but not sure of the Falcon conversion during the Mk4 ( TE ) Cortina rein. The Cortina CBU included a few 3 litre models ( Capri V6 ) , I think that was called the"Essex".👍👌🌈💚

It's yours to do as you wish but I do think that restored to original rac is the way to go. I also own a transit it's a 96 2.0 dohc petrol 15 seat minibus with a documented 33k from new. I'm the second owner only mod is I've taken seating down to 7. I have subscribed to your channel.

If your going to use it for recovery,it needs all the advertising on it you can get,aswell as making it look custom,stacks mmmm just something to catch the wind plus you already have the side covers,spend ya time and money on other fittings,like bright lights on a bull bar,or a name light 🚦 stay safe.

That brings back some great memories, back in the 90's l had late 80's 2.0L ford granny which was way too slow so l put a 6.6 chevy V8 in it then a pair of chrome side pipes just like the ones on your tranny, l wish l still had it though l'd have to remove the side pipes due to the speed bumps that seem to be everywhere now, it sounded fxxkin awesome though.

Know a lad who built a recovery Transit with a 6.2 V8 diesel. Think it was a Hummer engine or something but he got it brand new in a crate for next to nothing and thought to himself "fuck it I'll stick it in the Transit"

Oooh a local lad on the KZbins, great to see, grew up down the road in Rusko, thought I recognised you were driving through old G'town, for better or worse it's home these days. Came across this video by pure luck, maybe coz I'd watched a train spotters video in the area recently, watched a bit of freight roar down the Lincoln to Sleaford line just off the A153 near Speedway, as it's the East Coast Mainline freight avoidance line. What an absolute clown, seeing how good she looked before, glad the guy got absolutely slaughtered for it, in what world did he think "yeah a can of the black stuff will make it look better"?!. You HAVE to resto her back to how she was, RAC style but with Sleaford Recovery badged instead, make it look old skool with a bit of shine on it, will be a head turner for sure. Try this on the paint, saw a guy in the States, he bought an abused Ford F150 pickup truck, some idiot slapped a load of red paint on it, but he used brake fluid, a rag and a bit of elbow grease on it, don't let it sit and soak too long. Everything but the thickest areas came off. Can't use a disc on it coz it's too aggressive. As you say if the original paint is good, it should stay on, the guy I saw use the technique said it took the shit paint off and didn't disturb the clear coat underneath. Millage may vary of course, but worth a go if you got any brake fluid laying about and see if it'll touch it without destroying what's underneath. Get this bad boy up and running and looking mint I'll break down on purpose just to call you out in it, haha.

Nah dont put it back to RAC spec unless you want to fit a tow bar. Most of the terrible spray job will vanish with litres of paint thinner and elbow grease. Focus on getting the engine running before cosmetics. Cos a A+ body is nothing if its still waiting on you to make it run. Then id fit a towbar.

Ceramic coat them manifolds. A million times better than paint. Camcoat 👍

It Has the wrong door cards for a mk3 but looks a ace truck I was 7 when my dad had a mk3 transit now 40 was my dream vehicle spent 3 years looking for a clean swb low roof and I love mine pinto power with a few mods sounds like a old escort rally car 🤙

I think the whole doors are Mk5 because they also have Mk5 mirrors. Doors themselves would fit because Mk3-Mk5 are the same basic generation of 1986-2000.
