That thing used to be at little Sahara in Oklahoma all the time. It was so nice and pretty damn fast back in the day. It was also at the Daryl Stabird car show many yeats ago. Needs a lot of work but it's a great starting point and already way above a rail with stock vw big stuff. So cool to see that you have it now!

Mendeola MDS4 is sequential, a good gear box for what you want. The early Mendeola's had main shaft bearing issue's but you should be good with that one..

Its worth it man, you will have something way more unique than just another side by side you bought. This is too cool. I had one with a 1776 stroker vw when I was a teen. Thing was so fun. Had a cable clutch. I could rip the engine out in 10 minutes and most of that is setting up haha. I didn't have very nice suspension though in the front. It was too stiff and I would understeer bad. Open header with a stinger sounded so cool. I would do timed trials all day long on my property. Down to the beach and back up through the fields. You are going to make me want to get another buggy. I would probably go vw boxer though. Maybe a water boxer turbo

You'll have fun with it. With the shocks most of those you can re pack (rebuild) yourself to get by then upgrade them. Biggest thing is the transmission. That's usually the problem on something like that especially if it seen alot of pavement driving. I spent 20 years in Glamis sand dunes driving build all sorts of buggies. They are alot of fun.

HOLY SHIT......This sand rail was built maybe 2009-2010 give or take. I actually drove this Sand Rail when it was first built and it ripped the Little Sahara Sand Dunes in Oklahoma. I Had a blast driving it. A shame to see it look like that in 2020. The original owner (Jerry) kept great care of it. He actually had a few sand rails so I was able to drive this one whenever we linked up at the dunes. It was the first Honda Motor I've ever seen on a sand rail at the time.....Awesome purchase. Got an old Picture of it when it was in its prime if ya interested.

My dad has had (3) 3.5 vtec sand rails. All stock internals, injectors, stock ECU, 8lbs of boost on a single turbo and makes 350 whp very reliably for season after season! Super light chassis gap most of the 500hp LS rails! The Mendeola transaxles Reverse gear is weak as fuck, wouldn’t be slamming gears and dumping the clutch a lot! That thing will do wheelies if you guys put 2 turbos on it without dumping the clutch or going over a hump. A guy out of SoCal we go to Glamis with named Tom has a built motor on a bigger turbo and injectors, mid engine car just like these pulls wheels on flat ground on 22lbs !
