I just have to say that this place looks like it is going to be a ton of work and probably the most exciting project to undertake. Your attitude is contagious and in amongst the rubble you are sure to find gems. You won’t be limited on the prior owner’s style because you just keep the good bones and go from there. If it works into the design I would think some kind of second floor lookout, even if it is just part of the out buildings. Great views. Looking forward to the journey and thanks for sharing!

it may seem overkill right now, but if the framing is compromised (even if it isnt) maybe consider making the house more like a stilt house youd see along the gulf of mexico coast line. raise it up 4-5'+ and get it above the 200+ flood plane. essentially making a 2 story house with one real story and shaded storage below.

You guys got lucky. That house is a relatively easy job with some great finds.I used to work part time for a fire, water, mold restoration place. Had to clean up a few hoarder houses. First one wasn't bad, just tons of random junk. The second one was why I quit that job. Garbage and mold everywhere, little paths the owner walked on though the maze of clutter. The worst part by far was the fact that they had about 6 cats. Everything below knee height was urine soaked and you could smell it though the masks we wore, plus I found a 3 foot tall mountain of cat poop in the basement. Horrible job with an impossible, set deadline and our boss was pushing us too hard. When it was done I told him never to do that to the crew again and quit on the spot.

I've done a few. Lived in most of them, in order to make it work financially. She can't live in this right now so, curious about her living situation. I thought maybe she lived in the motor home till you mentioned that it came with the property. I lived in that kind of area when I was a kid. It had a railroad boxcar on it. Cold water only, and an outhouse. Pretty 'rustic.' I subscribed. Looking forward to how it goes.

Look up "hugelkultur". Its a way of gardening. You take old timber, tree branches, etc and cover it with dirt to form a long mound, then plant your seeds & plants. The branches & lumber give up the water in them, to slowly water the plants from inside the mound. This could be a way to add greenery and visual interest to the place, some gently rolling areas instead of all flat hard dirt.... and a way to use some of the wood that otherwise you'd have to pay to go to the dump. (Unless someone plans to burn wood for heat, in that case sell it to them).... if you dig down 6 - 12 inches and put wood scraps in more-or-less vertically, they could slowly rot and also catch any rain water or "gray water" (as, from washing clothes) & let it drain slowly, instead of having it soak in too fast - or run off on the hard ground. Over 5 - 10 years you could build/grow an oasis!
@Paladonius

This is going to be great to follow even if I am half a world away. I would start by hiring two dumpsters that can be left on site. One for obvious rubbish, plastics etc and the other for ferrous metal that could go to scrap metal. Get a good magnet and anything that the magnet sticks to put in the second bin, that way when it goes to the scrap metal recycler you may get something to offset the hire of the bin. By using a magnet you won't contaminate the metal with other types, eg cast iron etc

the top pops off for access to some of the lubrication points. others are accessible from the bottom of the machine. Sears made a good basic machine. you should be able to find a forum online. I have had Sears portable for over 35 years, I use it for mending dungarees mostly.

take some of the galvanized metal and create a structure over the house like a sun shade or triangle shade sail but out of metal. suprised there is mold. Curious what the water supply is from. You could use the material and stack a wall out of it and you can watch how things decay over the years in the desert. Books, plastic. metal, wood. childs car seat. Only drawback as it decays who knows how much lead and stuff would become powder. But neatly stacking things like puzzle pieces to create a wall. Does the fire hydrant have water ?

if you haven't disposed of the panelling, AND there is no sign of mold on it you may want to look at selling it to people doing up vans for living in..it'll mould to shape on curves, it can be painted, AND it'll be cheap material..just a suggestion..

From Jessie's instagram stories it seemed like a nice little ready-to-move-in house, but from this video it looks like it might need a tad more work... Excited to see what you will do with this.

only keeping the bathtub?? Did you not see that mid century stove and the cute closet in the bedroom. The house is perfect for a mid century modern makeover.

Aluminum foil on the windows is to help keep the heat out of the house during the summer. First need a big dumpster, second need hazmat suit third you have one hell of mess to deal with. Inside the house and outside. Good luck.

Oh man, this is going to be a looooot of work, but when you get the first dumpster in there and start making headway it's going to be so satisfying.

That is pretty much my sewing machine, from about 1967, and I still use it. But mine is beige. And I have a similar sewing table. 😊
