If you can , Look at lowering the queen bed down a bit, and fill in under for storage for cloths etc, fit a couple of solar panels on the roof and a second battery for the camper exclusively, also buy a small bbq, cook outside when ever possible, keeps the inside cooler , and no cooking smells that linger. Good luck , lived in a caravan for 4 years , and now we go away every 3 months for 1 to 2 weeks . Cheers from Australia

Imagine a life where you have a truck like this in storage somewhere inland that you love(like the Rockies) and a new catamaran that can take you anywhere. Need a break from life at sea then you can fly to your camper.. All for $4,000ish. Don't know what the plan is but sounds awesome to me.

We have the same truck & have been told that the motor is bullet proof. If the rest of the truck was totaled, we should keep the motor! We bought a 22' trailer for $7,000 at an auction about 8 years ago, & spent a month & an extra $1,000 to fix up the water damage that we couldn't see before we were in possession of it. We still love the trailer & it still suits us. It pays to be thorough with your inspection, but it's worth it. Enjoy the process & put your mark on it!

You have entered a new and exciting world! There are numerous RV channels on youtube with an enormous amount of information and advice. Billy is 100% correct on the truck. Cummins diesel 5.9's are extremely reliable and sturdy. As I have some experience in the truck and camper are I would like to give you a little advice. Slide-in campers are top heavy so keep heavy items low. Upgrade your trucks suspension to have the heavyest front and rear swaybars you can find. Has your Cummins had the "KILLER DOWEL PIN" serviced? I strongly suggest adding a "Wicked Wheel" to your turbo. It will improve your torque and fuel milage. Do a full service on the transmission before heading out. Add a large transmission cooler. Service all wheel bearings and brakes. I hope the tires you bought are "E" load rated because the truck will aways have a load. Knowing what you are used to I expect you will be boondocking quite a bit. I could go on and on but you two know how to live simply. I'm looking forward to the fixup videos then the travel adventures. See you in the next one. Dave

Consider a separate thermostat on the AC. When on cool you set the hot/cold knob it will run to a set low temp output, then run the fan(not cooling) and then cycle back on the compressor but stay running. They aren't quiet so you can simply wire the external thermostat to have it run more "traditionally" so it will shut off when desired temp is reached.

Ha! Cassette players allowed the making of the infamous mix tape, which 8 Tracks never afforded. Before I could legally drive I took the 8 track out of my first car and put it in my bedroom so I could listen to the 8 tracks an older sister had left behind. Cassettes seemed so modern and small by comparison when they came out.

That's a beefy truck.. I doubt it.. Those campers are heavy though. Probably worth adding or upgrading the transmission cooler.

@@xxturbowesxx sorry, but that year of Dodge didnt come with a good transmission. The diesel has the best, but in general, dodge cant make a trans worth %&$#@. Not putting down the truck, i own 2 of them, but the trans WILL go out
