You are so kind, as a 76 yr old widow I see things going bad on my home that I just can’t repair. It breaks my heart! We loved or home and took excellent care of it. We always worked together each using their talents and skills. Now it’s just me! Seniors across the world will face these problems. Kindness and understanding is so needed. Thank you both.

I felt their kindness as well, being the 74 year old owner of a home built in 1930. I do have a very good gardener and handyman but home upkeep is so expensive.

Yes, my parents are 86 and 82 and badly need home repairs. If I had the money I'd have these things fixed in a heartbeat but it's not there. They are raising a great grandson and deserves so much more! I thought of doing a GoFundMe but it would embarrass them to death and I'm up in arms as to what to do. Wishing you the best!!

You are so correct. I see this happening to me. Nobody cares anymore. My house needs some repair as well. Breaks my heart. It's a strong old house,survived hurricane Ida. It was built in 1950 out of cypress. I purchased land and had it moved here in 1993. I love old houses. You take care,someone will help you out @tommiejones1072.. There's still some good people left in this world. GOD BLESS YOU STAY SAFE.

@@marymisdom3955 Hi, I’m 78 (female) and just sold my free standing home to buy a villa..My home was built in 1987 so I knew it was going to cost me every year,,,so here I am in the villa. Great when you have a man or woman with the know how and money to maintain a home,,but especially when you get older it becomes very difficult..So proud of these two..I will be watching…👍🏼

We bought a run down double wide mobile home on 12 acres of land out in the country. We gutted the entire inside of the mobile home, floors, walls, windows, appliances, kitchen counters and cabinets, bathtubs, sinks, basically everything went except for the framing, which was in good shape. We also replaced the exterior walls of the home and insulated. It took us 6 months of hard work, but we now have, basically a brand new home that is paid for. We just added on a 4 car garage and a huge barn ( built on site by the Amish ). We paid 40k for the home and land, spent about 35k to remodel and it is now appraised for 170k.

I can tell by your tone you are excited for this project, and for that I’m happy for you. You deserve it. Regarding your decision to invest in something that you can make better with the skills you’ve developed is an excellent one. We’ve all seen what you and Ash can do. My husband and I have taken similar steps during our life, sometimes taking a chance, and by working together, we moved our self forward, financially. It takes guts to do what you’re doing. The icing on the cake for me was how you spoke of the previous owners with such compassion. I love your videos. I will watch with great interest what you do with this property. I’m excited to go for this ride along with you. Thanks for including us!

If anyone can tackle this project, it is you guys!!! I have known several people over the last few years who have invested in mobile home communities. They started with one and now have numerous properties that they rent or sell. They are making a ton of money! They do all the work and maintenance themselves. They make a good living by providing decent properties to a socioeconomic class that is often left with poor renting or buying choices. Our communities need people like you!!! I'm so excited to watch this next phase of your project! Evertbody wins here!!!!

My husband and I purchased a mobile home for $500, about 20 years ago. We put in blood, sweat and tears and with some help from family and friends, made it into a lovely home for our family. I'm going to add my 2 cents. I've done a lot of renovations, too many on mobile homes too. 1. Get a stacked washer dryer 2. Use the washer space for a better closet 3. Take that small closet with vacuum out and make kids room bigger. Good for desk or dresser space inside the room. 4. Get 3 mini-splits. Avoids ducting issues, is efficient and allows for heat and cooling in specific areas as needed. 5. If you get new kitchen cabinets, maximum drawers, minimum doors in the lower cabinets. No bending and hunting in dark corners for a lost pot lid. I found ikea makes soft close standard and has every weird and odd size you need to maximise space, and about same price as big box stores who have less options. 6. If you need to replace water heater get the instant one. Way more energy efficient, takes up almost no space and about the same price. 7. That weird MBR closet...maybe remove and put in a ikea wall unit. Way more useful space, slimmer profile and easier access.

There's something about watching you fix a mobile home that seems worth watching. Mobiles are small enough for two people to renovate and most adults are couples. You have high standards. You two never just slap on a coat of paint, new flooring, new cabinets, and appliances and call it good enough. Many 'house flippers' do just that. They say they're putting 'lipstick on a pig.' That could be dangerous because if enough mice have gnawed through the electrical wiring in the walls, then the house could be a fire hazard for the new homeowners who thought they were getting a completely renovated mobile home. And that's what they were told. It's April 2024 and I've been watching since March 2024 for this mobile. Today I decided to go back in time and look at the original tour of the home. I'm glad that you're sensitive about not dissing the prior mobile home dweller. People who live in mobile homes are often called 'trailer trash.' I do think that is deliberate negative propaganda to encourage people to spend way too much money on houses. And now, especially now, when so many Americans are trying to keep their families together. While living in RVs and shed-to-house conversions, all in an effort to avoid being called 'trailer trash.' If someone does buy a mobile home fixer-upper, your series shows what to look for and inspires to fix to a high enough standard that the home is clean, comfortable, and as safe as a house ever gets. Your videos are important. Although not how-tos, they do inspire people to consider mobile homes in their (sometimes desperate) search for housing. I can tell that that mobile was once a comfortable place. I'm actually impressed with the kitchen. I don't own dogs, but I do know that it is truly the nature of some (many?) to share their lives with dogs - and they do love them and let them into the house because their dog(s) are part of their family.

Sounds like a good project. My Dad used to fix up small properties in a lower middle class neighborhood and owner finance sell them. The banks didn’t want to fool with those “little” properties. It was win win for him and whoever bought the places. People don’t tend to trash their own property as much as they do rental properties. He lived in the same neighborhood so he could keep an eye on things. He helped a lot of people.

This is an awesome idea! I know it would be tempting to focus on the mobile home being finished in the way you would want it to be as your family's home. Few renters would appreciate and be careful with higher-end light fixtures, doors, etc. I do admire your money management skills. Thank you for letting us know there's exciting new content in the future. (I believe having various projects to work on can help avoid burnout. Spending weeks building foundations and filling the blocks would have been mind-numbing for me. With so many choices of projects you can easily refresh/reboot your mind. Now if we could determine a way to reboot sore, aching bones and muscles.) Congratulations on a totally new journey!

The property will turn out great! The “tropical plant” you pointed out is a palmetto bush. Roaches and rattlesnakes like to hide in them, so y’all be real careful. If you want to save it, clean it out, cut away a lot of the fronds at the base with a lopper, so you can see the ground. It’s a regular old woods weed in this Floridian’s view. Keeping it is easier than trying to dig up the giant roots. Didn’t want to scare y’all about snakes. I grew up running through the woods and survived.

To me, you made a smart decision, you rarely go wrong buying property and while it's going to involve a good amount of physical labor, in the long run it will be worth it because you will do it right. We're renovating our vacation home for our retirement home presently and we also own the house on the next property which we will renovate next. Our intention is to rent it out as an AirBnB because in this area of Pennsylvania, you get much more rental income than if you rent to locals as a residence. Plus we've had nightmare experiences with local renters and rent is much lower than you can get as an AirBnB. For instance if we rented it as a full time residence we'd be lucky to get $600 a month for a two bedroom, living room, kitchen, 2 bedroom with one bath and sun porch. But AirBnB
@francescampbell4731
@francescampbell4731 Жыл бұрын
Sorry my computer froze and won't allow me to continue. In our area a AirBnB on our street goes for $350 a night and it's not comparable to ours since our home is much larger and sits on a larger piece of property. So either way, I think you made a great decision as long as you do proper background checks because renting properties can be a nightmare with the wrong tenants. Good luck!!

I bought a brand new mobile home in 2020 & it has cathedral ceilings as well as the outside has a pitched roof, it's a single wide as well BUT you are going to have to install gutters on both sides of the home because when it rains that rain comes right down the sides of the mobile home & right into the windows & inside the home! Just one year is all it took for it to show signs of water starting to damage the inside of my window seals so I've had to get gutters put up. Not to mention the water goes right into the doorways & I live up north so when it froze the first winter I had my door freeze shut plus had ice build up that at the bottom of the door that I had to chisel off just so i could open & close my front door. Ik your home here is in Florida & snow you won't have to worry about there but the rain you will. So please put up 2 gutters w/down spouts to save your new walls, floors, windows, etc.

Just a reminder from a man who grew up in the same area of florida, be very alert about snakes. Talk to your kids about always looking where they step, not putting their hands in places they can't see like under anything that has been left outside or in a bush, when opening a door to go outside take a microsecond to look ahead before stepping out (there has been snakes at our door a few times) and most importantly discourage them to play with any snakes they encounter.

Good advice almost anywhere you live that isn't a city. Rattlesnakes alone cover most of the USA, My parents taught me to look wherever I walked, particularly tall grass. I have encountered rattlers 4 times in my life I only saw one of them, the rest I heard and walked another way. Florida has several venomous varieties. So it is best just to leave all of the snakes alone if you live in that region.

Heck, sometimes alligators show up on people's doorsteps. They're big enough to see easily though.

I'm kind of glad y'all are doing this. I live in a 2005 MH & the front wall where the water valve for the hose comes out of the wall leaked, for months before I found out about it. My elderly sister lives in that end of the house & I never go back there. Now the wall has a big bow in it. I need to learn how to fix all the damage. I believe I can learn that here.

As long as you own the property the trailer sits on its a good investment. I got a older mobile home sitting on a 1/4 acre it was in rough shape got it for 25k. It's now worth over a 100k. If it's on a rented lot then it's not worth anything. Key is owning property it sits on.

I had a feeling this was no April Fool’s joke. All I can say is, you are on the right path. I have no doubt you are going to transform the mobile home into something much better than it ever was before. Brings me back to the single wide you renovated with the school house and the huge garage.

This is really exciting because we know the work you can do. At the same time, I caution you to remember you are going to flip it and don't put too much thought into each little part of the project. Save that for your own house. I trust you understand what I'm trying to say. Now, having a new series with this mobile home will be fine, but I hope that we will still see what's happening on your own home too. I'm loving its transformation.

For the amount you spend to remodel this trailer, you could build a new small house. That would have resale value verse a trailer that can only have a limited resale value. A house as you probably know would be much easier for a potential buyer to get financing. Giving you a much bigger pool of buyers. Buyers for that price range would need a fha loan that have so many restrictions. Or you would have to owner finance and I would never do that unless it was raw land.

Most of us subscribers know y'all's work and know how beautiful and better it will be when it's finished. You don't do shady work. You go above and beyond what needs to be done. I would love to live in it as long as I knew you renovated it. I wouldn't have a worry in the world whether it was done right or not. I can't wait to watch the transformation. ❤

With your skills I think you have made a wise choice. Renovating an existing building avoids extra permitting and gives you a passive income. Because of the size of the house it may be a more affordable place for someone to rent. They will have a lovely surrounding yard, too.

I really liked what you did with the last mobile home I have no doubt this one will turn out fantastic. What size dumpster will you need for all the furnishings and carpet? or will you just get a large one for all the gutting, too? this will be a lot of work, but I know you're up to the challenge.

In today's throw away, disposable culture, I think it is absolutely wonderful that you are rescuing & repairing this poor, old, neglected mobile home. These days, there are far too many uninspired people with little to no work ethic that are just downright lazy. They quickly toss things out & then run to buy whatever some ridiculous, famous for no reason, influencer tells them to buy. I was brought up to take pride in working hard to earn the things I needed or wanted. We were also taught to take care of things & learn how to repair them if needed. We learned that if we are lucky, one day we can sit back, relax & watch the next generation enjoy the fruits of our labor. I miss those days & I miss being around like-minded people who were also raised to take pride in working hard & helping out friends, neighbors & family. I love the sense of accomplishment & pride you feel after you fix something or after helping someone else fix something. It's so easy to invite a few friends over for a paint party. Put on some good tunes & provide a few snacks & beverages for everyone. I recommend saving the alcoholic beverages to celebrate with when things are finished. If not, things might get painted that were not supposed to be 😆. It doesn't feel like work if you are having fun doing it 🎉. Unfortunately, 25 years ago I sustained some very serious injuries after being involved in a really bad car accident. Throughout the following years, I underwent numerous surgeries that were supposed to help with the lingering effects from the injuries. They were not successful. As if that wasn't enough, 10 years later I was diagnosed with 2 different, debilitating auto immune disorders so I am now disabled & unable to work. If I was still able to do DIY projects, I would build myself one of those cute tiny houses with a walk-in bathtub for hydrotherapy. I could get a little bit of my independence back & no longer feel like such a burden to the family member that I currently have to reside with. I would feel like less of a burden to my Son also. I am unable to maintain a normal sized place on my own. I'm confident that I could handle the upkeep of a tiny house. If not, I would at least be able to afford paying someone to maintain things for me since it would be so small. If I an ever able to save up enough money, I would love to hire you guys to build me the tiny little home that I dream of. Best of luck with this mobile home project. I am really looking forward to watching you work your DIY magic!

I'm in the stage of demolishing my mobile home in preparation for a complete remodel. My home was also built in the 1980s and I'm absolutely amazed at the similarities between mine and yours here. You young folks are an inspiration! I'm ready to tackle my project because of you. But, I have to say that, after watching your video, I can see that your mobile home is in even worse condition than mine is. And, in a way, that's actually very encouraging. I mean... if you can do it, I can do it dammit! LOL Keep up the great work kids.

That indention on the other side of the stove is for the old microwaves. They were huge and took up quite a bit of counter space. The old kitchens would build a microwave station to house the bowls and other stuff that was microwave safe under them.
