Thanks for all the positive comments, we just wanted to show that these power stations are very useful but you need to be aware of their limitations, for occasional use or topping up a weekend away with dodgy weather they are a game changer but they’re not a substitute for electric hook up if you rely on 230v For those asking we paid £1220 for the solar panel and EcoFlow itself as a package deal at the Peterborough show. Any other questions or suggestions are most welcome and thank you for being respectful 🙏

Very practical uses shown in your video. One key point that will make it more useful is the pass-through charging feature. You can charge it with your solar panels (or AC outlet) while discharging it at the same time. This will greatly increase the runtime. I would strongly suggest that you get additional solar panels to make full use of the 500W solar input. Just be aware there is a 60V max input limit. You'll likely need a combination of series and parallel hookups to get 500W. Good luck and thanks for the video.

Here’s a tip- if you have a gas/propane generator, you can run it for an hour and take this to 80%, significantly saving you running the normal generator for the same amount of time. Especially on cloudy days.

As a camper yes thats how u need to use these generators. Get them charged with eletric not with solar. And only buy lifepo batteries like this as they charge 80% in 1 hour opposed to other kinds batteries take 4 hrs

Good video. A sound buy for the use you have described. We all use these power stations in different ways. I use allpowers s2000. A good bit 9f.kit but after 6 they have limited longevity even being lifepro. Ecoflow appear to have the most reliable standalone systems for van and do.estic use. Far cheaper than one domestic tesla wall system that should it break after warranty its gone, but should a bank.of these break. It will be an individual item or two at best, which leads to adapted use. I've seen a comment about a plg/petrol generator, this is a good option at some times of the day to replenish some used power. I've got one to do the same and use our vans lpg to power it. I find using these devices as a back up or to intentional attempt to sav3 on electric domestically works. We tend to charge them using roof domestic solar 4kw system and use their power at night time, seriously reducing our energy footprint. Consider a simple diy array onto your garden wall, a 2 panel system, these could harness the sun recharge your eccflow and even divert excess to an immersion tank using solar I buddy to capture free solar to heat hot water. Be lucky guys

@@RickandHeather good news. Like I've suggested consider a solar diverted to an.immersion tank, it has potential to save.endless gas and gives you solar hot water. I've only put my gas on once over the winter so far, otherwise we've had free hot water all year. Our monthly combined bill is £37.

Enjoyed your video Mr. Rick and Miss Heather here in Texas. You are very correct about many people not understanding the limitations of power banks. It is a simple thing about understanding electricity. One will never find a power bank that will totally be 100% efficient simply because the built in electronics themselves use the power of the batteries to run themselves, and the bigger the inverter in the unit the less efficient it will be. Knowing how you plan to use the power bank is key. Great thing about ecoflow for me has been customer service . I own 2 ecoflow Delta max which are 2016 wh banks which I use as a UPS for when I travel and are connected to the residential refrigerator and a freezer. We experience power outages frequently so these have helped keep our perishables safe. On your E-bike batteries they take a long time to charge because the amperage draw is very low maybe 2 or 3 amps so you can expect them to take a while to fully charge. The great thing about that is that while you are charging the batteries with your ecoflow you could also connect the solar panel and it will trickle charge your power bank while charging the battery. God Bless and save travels and journeys. Congratulations on your purchase. Not a representative of ecoflow just a user.

Hello Texas! Wow, this KZbin thing always amazes me how it allows us to travel virtually as well as physically when we film, yes we just thought we’d film an open video helping people understand these items are great if you know their uses, I doubt we’ll get a free one now though but that’s ok we’re happy buying stuff and keeping the moral high ground, hopefully we won’t ever need a customer service call but it’s good to know they are responsive. We’re loving ours but as you say, knowing the limitations stops disappointing results. Take care and thanks for the comment we appreciate it 🙏

It's a great product. What let's it down is the battery is only 1024wh and the price is not cheap at over £1000. I went for a Vtoman Jump power station allowing me to expand battery capacity to around 3000wh for cheaper than the Delta 2. Alternatives to the Delta 2 if a mobile app is a deal breaker are the Ugreen Power roam 1200 and Vigorpool Captain. They all have their pros and cons.

Eco flow is not the cheapest but it’s a very high-quality product. It’s going to last many many years. I know when I try and save money I’m always disappointed in the end it’s happened so many times to me whether I buy carpeting into the tile right by a cheaper version of something to say two or $300 I’m always disappointed for me I’d rather save the extra money And just have a very high-end product. Now when it comes to these things I get it if you can get another unit that’s got the Lipo for battery technology and it’s not gonna break in the first year then there is nothing wrong with saving some money I’ve been following these solar generators for many years now and I don’t have one yet but when I do buy and I’m getting close, it’s going to be the Eco flow. I’ll probably do the Delta 2 Max so I can get 2001 hours that when you can expand I believe up to 6001 hours

Found your channel today, yout review is the best on the tube, honest, practical and informative. I dont even know why i watched your review because ive 5 x1500 wph allpowers which do the same but cheaper to buy, also after service from seller has been second to none! We just used 2 of ours in our van touring europe. Whilst im able to power the whole van as you have also done, i prefer just an extension lead to the required draw items, we use ours for induction hob, hair dryer, coffee machine, bikes fans etc, not let us down. With the UPS function we can also chrge devices on the road whilst its either charged with roof solar (100w) or inline connected to our leisure battery, but only until either 100% or half of our journey to ensure full L.B charge. Ive a bog standard pwm fitted, so to avoid pwm/mppt confliction, ive tapped into the solar before it hits the pwm. It was trial or error, but has worked for nearly 2 years. These are great bits or kit for comfort living on the road, with no need to tap into ehu and sites, if used sensibly. I also save ay least 3kw of electric a day at home, powering kids Pc's. Tv, even tall fridge and tall freezer. From a domestic power cut pov, it will keep us going for a day or so, but if solar is available a through chrge to keep them topped.up. i will subscribe to you both now.and will view more vids. Your HUD one is of interest for the same reasons, using a phonr app at the moment cheers and happy travels

Thanks Rick and Heather for producing this vlog, I was beginning to wonder if it was just me and my maths at fault.. As you say they have their uses and as long as you are aware it should prove ok. We bought small ecoflow River 2 brilliant for charging tablet, phones etc and recharge once a week on a sunny day like today it took 1.5 hours from 45%. But to be honest it was charging my rechargeable drill battery plus mobile phone at the same time. Trying to get most value for the money. Don't think I am tempted to buy anything bigger at present but who knows what the future holds...how fast the hair dryer ran it down was an eye opener, keep up the good work saving your minions from wasting our hard earned money, oh well back to welding the campervan TTFN. 🎉

That was interesting especially when some well established van lifers are talking about using the power banks instead of the traditional electrical set up. After watching this I really can’t see that working. I watch Those Happy Days and they’ve been travelling in India in a rickshaw with the solar on the roof powering the power bank. They’ve stayed in accommodation and used the power bank just for their phones, cameras and laptops so I can see how that works but living in a van and using just the power bank wouldn’t suit me. I can see how it would bring benefits to a traditional setup, off grid but not as stand alone. Great review. Thanks.
@RickandHeather
@RickandHeather Жыл бұрын
For minimal use to enhance 12v use it’s a great addition (example we’re off grid at the moment as you know) and last night came in and used it to boil the kettle for a cuppa rather than using gas and then waiting for the hob to cool etc, but to fully replace 230v hook up you’d need a huge one and loads of solar and space. We’d say they are a great addition though 😊

Hi guys I cant tell you compared with some how good this flog is. Your right what you want it for it how you choose. We use ours for the telly rather than the battery and then top it up with the solar when not on EHU. Sarah also uses in for her strainers so works a treat and we use it for the phones and this all gives us a longer time off grid. Then if we are on site we fill up with EHU. Solar and a power bank that is man enough, keeps you off grid longer. Keep this up you might even get free stuff lol.

Thank you for the great, pragmatic, no hype review. For DC to DC transfer (like charging your van batteries and your e-bike batteries), it is certainly unfortunate that you have to go through the additional inefficiency of running your ecoflow inverter to get 240V AC only to then run your power adapter/charger to create 36v (or 48v) DC. I sure wish they had a dedicated "DC out" from the ecoflow internal 48v DC (it is a 15cell LiFePO4 nominal 3.2v based storage). I believe the Delta Pro has an Anderson Port (dedicated RV 12V @ 30A), which would be good for charging spare batteries if they were LiFePO4 based ones with BMS internal, but I would very much like to have access to a DC 48V out port and not have to suffer all the inefficiencies of inverters/converters/etc. I suppose that would be "dangerous" for most that didn't know how to connect the proper buck converters or BMS systems up to it. Still, I could probably gain access to those rails (much like the expandable battery port), I suppose.
@RickandHeather
@RickandHeather Жыл бұрын
You’re way more educated on this than me, yes it’s definitely inefficient in some ways we use it but we have it as a bit of a comfort blanket in a way, just for convenience over anything.

@@RickandHeather I think what I'm wishing for, would be an XT-60 OUTPUT port from the built in solar MPPT charger in this unit that I could configure to 12/24/36/48V output via the app (or automatically sense). That would be ultimate in flexibility and allow me to charge spare LiFePO4 100Ah batteries with this all-in-one unit. This is EXACTLY what the expansion port on the side is for, but...I think they will never allow this, because you will simply buy a 12V/100Ah (1200Wh) LiFePO4 battery for $300 instead of their expansion battery (for $800). 32:49 32:49 1. The 110AmpHr AGM battery in our caravan recharges from the 200W solar panels on the roof by 8am at this time of the year on a sunny day, in North Yorkshire. A little later if not sunny but the panels work in cloudy weather, too. Obviously the sun rises later in the autumn and winter! 2. I was thinking of getting a Delta 2 Max and 400 (?) W solar panel to enable me to use the van more in the late autumn/early Spring periods, and to go 400 miles into the North West Highlands where the daylight is much shorter in winter. Wife shares a house there with her sister and it would be possible to charge up the unit by taking it into the house and atttach it to the 240v sockets inside to charge it fully if we park the van in the grounds. 3. The purpose for the Delta 2 Max would be to extend the season (we are usually without EHU in farmers' fields for THSs or long-weekend meets) but it would be nice to put the central heating on for short periods when it's cold. Obviously we cook on gas or BBQ and the Alde CH in the van also heats the water on gas but we arevusually without EHU. The CH heats the van+water quickly - 10-15 minutes. What other uses - TV on 12v and lighting plus recharging items like phones/shaver/iPad? But the Delta 2 Max would give us a hook up as well as extra 12v battery power, so we COULD put the CH on 240v for short periods, too.

Interesting video (as you can imagine I found it very interesting 😊) - if you weren’t supplied with the lead for the solar panel, assume you would have got it home and it wouldn’t be usable? (That’s a disgrace if so that it’s not supplied as part of the solar kit) Sounds like it’s an 85Ah battery with inverter and running around 90% efficient on AC (so 76Ah or 900Wh as you said. Assuming your leisure battery was 100ah and charge efficiency was 90% you would get about 2/3rds of a leisure battery (from zero which obv you shouldn’t do unless Lithium) so probably useful. Where do you store it in the Cv20? In the wardrobe or have you found a convenient place? (Was difficult to gauge exact size relatively) One final one, I don’t think you gave an indication of the cost unless I missed it beyond the second battery - would I be right in assuming about a grand? (So £11.76 per amp hour)? I could be way out there so sorry if I am as haven’t really looked much into them (and I’ve been super happy with my setup (it all just works)) I imagine this is fantastic where you don’t want the hassle of installing and the convenience to use for other things (such as if you had a power cut). If my maths is correct In 3,000 solar charges from 0, you would save £1,000 in electric @ 35p per kWh too so you would get your money back 🙌 Thanks again, enjoyed watching. Have a great week, all the best, David 👍

£1220 with the panel, lead was £25 but free if you bought the 2 together. It just sits on the floor in the back between the seats. Weight 11kg does what we need without adding lithium which is all we want. Allows us more flexibility as you say 👍

I bought them separate and neither came with the cable. Problem is I bought both the delta 2 + extra battery as well as $1,000 worth of solar panels only to find neither came with the cord to connect the two. Guess what’s worse? THE SITE IS TOTALLY SOLD OUT of all the cables. Even sold out on Amazon etc. Wow. So the purpose I bought it for which was a solar charging battery is useless because they couldn’t include a $20 cable with $3,000 worth of equipment! Shame!

@@poisonfortheweaksince you have enough solar panels to produce 500 watts, make sure to get the xt60i and not the xt60 They both fit, but the 60 only allows around 350 watts charging. Also you have to arrange the panels to produce at least 35 volts or so to get the 500 watt input. Anyway thats what I heard tell. Just picked up one a couple of weeks ago.😮
@poisonfortheweak

@@bernswonger57 Thank you for your advice. I believe I have the Xt60i. I actually ordered the cords from Ecoflow, but if those aren’t the “I”, I also bought backup cables for all my panels, which I know are “I” ones. I wouldn’t be a prepper without backups, right? Haha. Thanks again and I will double check as I’d heard there is some difference with those cables but wasn’t entirely clear. So far I have only had the time to test a single panel, not running them in series yet. My plan is to run 2x220w per battery bank, so 440w- but the back side may provide a little bit more to bring me closer to 500w if it’s done right on a nice sunny day.

YOU NEED 1800 WATTS IN SOLAR PANELS IN TOTAL TO CHARGE THE POWER STATION FASTER IF IT CAN TAKE THAT MUCH WATTAGE. THAT FLAT PANEL YOU HAVE WILL TAKE 8 DAYS TO GET A FULL CHARGE AT 110 WATTS .AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER CHARGER WITCH WILL ONLY BE 70 WATTS AND TAKE 10 DAYS. IF YOU PLUG THE POWER STATION INTO GRID SHORE POWER IT WILL CHARGE IT FULLY WITH 1800 WATTS TO 100% IN 1.5 HOURS. YOU COULD ALSO TRY AND ADD THAT FOLD UP SOLAR PANEL TO THE SOLAR GLASS PANELS YOU ALREADY HAVE TO GET MORE WATTS AND IF THAT HELPS WHEN NOT PLUGGED INTO SHORE POWER.

we got one this summer. Quite good so far. We have that same kettle too. If you have 12 volt things, they work more efficiently as it doesn't have to convert to 240v first. We tried actually hooking up a small power station (not ecoflow) and found the same. Its logical when you work it out because you are using your power station inverter to run power into the van which will then use It's inverter so its very inefficient to do so. I love the ecoflow. Would have liked the zonking big one but too expensive for us and we only have a vdub van so not a lot of space

Wow what a feeling, i Know sounds ridiculous but it just amazed me…free energy? Yep i am hooked…I do have the extra battery but haven’t needed it yet, or just haven’t had a need for it yet ( i was charging the D2 with the cigarette lighter outlet while driving on long trips) - I live in hurricane affected areas so it is just an emergency backup if needed, I did run a 12v car fridge with it from the D2 using AC but have since learned that using the 12v DC output to the fridge would make it even more efficient…thanks again for the video and hello from Myrtle Beach SC !

I currently live in my van full time I have been using my delta max which it the model with twice the capacity as the delta 2 but the old battery chemistry so it’s much cheaper some rough runtime numbers 550w kettle 2 cups of water 2% 1400w air fryer for 20mins 15% 1200w full size Hoover to clean then van once a week 5% 50w laptop using usb-c 8hours 8% You save a lot of battery life by switching off the inverter as soon as you are done because it used about 40w just to run the inverter on standby the display doesn’t show this and it’s partially why you don’t get full capacity when you discharge it The cigarette lighter is not practical to charge these I installed a 700w inverter off my starter battery and run it while I drive it will fully charge the unit from 0% to full in 3 hours much more practical than 20! I have a delta max,i think its a good bit of kit but something puzzles me. When you are on EHU on campsite or at home you have earth continuity from the grid. Any fault or shock and it will trip. With a power bank you are taking 240v to a tent or a van with no earth protection. Both L and N are live. Plug in a plug tester and it will show a fault. If i do what most people do and plug the eco flow into my van circuits,their is no earth protection, so as far as I'm aware nothing will trip if their is a fault except over current from a load. Correct me if I'm thinking this wrong

If you can split the feed out of the solar panel before it comes into your charge controller then yes, obviously the EcoFlow has an inbuilt charge controller so needs the full voltage from the panel. When charging lithium battery Cadillac sometimes the first 80% of it, can take just as long as the last 20%. In the beginning the electrons are flooded inside of an empty battery with plenty of places to bounce around and sit, at the end, most of the places are taken and they're bouncing around looking for Less places to sit, sort of speak. Plus it's probably the BMS, battery Management Systems slowing down the fast charging at the end protecting the battery
