I have an almost exact van (suzuki) and though it's not very fast (or powerful) because of its 660cc engine, it can carry a lot of people or some cargo. It's also very easy to find parking space for it.

Do a big battery box that is waterproof and then solar on top of the battery box thus save your space inside the camper for your living space.

Aaaaah i love this little camper! Then set up the mini camper nicely and take good care of it! They have become rare! With us in Germany they are almost gone :( .. because I couldn't find one I built the Suzki Jimny FJ mini camper ... and later I bought a large camper. So now I have two campers! A mini expedition vehicle for off road and motorhome for normal tour ... But your camper is just cute and I find it very practical for WE tour! have fun Greetings from Germany

These Japanese Import Vans are invariably sourced in very good mechanical condition and will give years, miles and smiles of travel camping adventures! That's a great space to work with as a blank sheet fit out, and when you're dealing with compact dimensions you really have the opportunity to become inventive about how you do things and with what you use, as weight is a very important factor in these Kei Cars! Driving them is great fun, its like being on a forward control roller skate! Those two sliding doors and in particular the winding windows will make your life so much easier when you're camping. I'm subscribing to follow your adventures. If you look up those vehicles in Japan you'll see a whole world of camping /living/off road stuff made to fit in them because they're hugely popular over there! Its worth remembering that the people up front are, in effect, the crumple zone in any frontal impact, as they get to the accident site first and only have a paper thin panel between them and whatever is out front! On the plus side, whatever you buy to fit in your Kei camper, you won't need to buy much of it!

Andreas Duess we had these for years a 7 seater , a caravette and vans , they are economical and great fun . Two things to take note , in Winds and corners they can be unsteady . If the engine management light comes on it could well need the Head skimming . You can only skim it 3 times . Keep the headliner .

What speed does this top out at for cruising? I’ve heard others say it shakes a lot when vehicles pass on the highway. Did you find this to be a big concern/scary when you drove it to Shasta? That’s one of my main reservations on getting a kei van.

I suggest you remove the headliner and trim panels so you can insulate effectively. Avoid dimensional lumber; it’s too heavy and needlessly massive. Instead, use marine materials and scantlings. Excessive weight will slow you down. Combine that with altitude, and you might need to get out to push uphill. It’s bad enough at sea level. You’d probably be happier with a chinese diesel furnace. They’re cheaper than dirt, safe, and very effective. Hard to beat a jetboil for efficiency, portability, and size. Try a SuMo. I understand the desire to use ‘lectrics exclusively, but your energy potential probably couldn’t meet even modest needs. Make the best use of your “floorplan” by stacking the accommodations. I’d consider an athwartships countertop galley above your feet. That way you could use it inside or out with the rear door open. I’ve always loved those little vans, and I think building a micro/minimal camper would be a lot of fun. I’ll soon be building out my comparitively massive Delica L300. Check out Foresty Forest, especially respective the diesel furnace. I look forward to seeing what you do with this.

Wonder how hard it would be to change the steering wheel to the left side. A lot of vehicles designed for international sales are made with symmetrical dashes and firewalls with predrilled holes. As the vehicle comes down the assembly line, the computer reads whether the unit is ordered in left or right driver position. No big deal.

I picked up a spare diahatsu parts car for my one and only car and all I have taken off it in three years and 30000 miles is a head light bulb 8) apart from tyres and fluids and filters and spark plugs all it's needed was cv joint rubber boots and some welding on the middle exaust box which I done myself with an arc welder . It really has cost nothing at all to run I service it regularly myself .
