How does the drill change direction, is there enough of a spoon on the end to turn the direction. Is it drilling a 4" hole a little bigger when it goes thru the ground and rock. 65 years old and still a kid at heart and likes to watch. thanks for the videos.

Yes you are right about the shape. And drilling that’s when it goes straight technically and then when you want to turn it, you put it in a position and push. Thanks for watching.

There is a bend in the bit. That bend changes if its a dirt paddle or a rock bit. Dirt paddle has more of a bend so we can steer better. There is a beacon inside the bore head called a sonde. It shows the locator the pitch and position of the head. The driller has a screen that shows some of what the locator can see on his locator. The sonde shows both a clock which is how we steer. Want to go right you push 3 want to go left push 9 and so on.

I had the same issues with that x3 housing , sure it’s easy change but they need to re engineer that head and housing. I use Borzall housing with an eagle claw bit . I drill in Utah a lot of rock

I’ll definitely look into the set up you use!

We had to send our X3 back to the factory because the roll pins kept falling out on me. Done a few challenging bores with it and have had better luck with it.

We got that X3 housing with the gauntlet when we hit some rock. Definitely not as hard as what yall went through but it got our job done with no teeth broke. How was it getting the broke ones out? It seems like you may need something more than the gauntlet in that ground.

We used a punch and popped the teeth right out and replaced them fairly easily. I’m not impressed with that bit setup, definitely wouldn’t buy it again for that ground. Crazy thing is I went back to a paddle bit. That’ll be in the next few videos

Yeah I think that bit is meant for “softer” rock, not extremely hard rock or else it will break. Try using it in hard ground with no rock and see how it performs. They say you’re not supposed to go more than 5% with the head or else the pull back may get compromised. That screw with the metal does seem like a design flaw that attached the head and swivel, I’m not too fond of it.
