This time we continue our journey in Istanbul Turkey and put our own skin on the line to prove that many stereotypes about Istanbul and Turkish people are wrong. Will do our best to show what to wear, where to eat and hopefully can prove that Istanbul is a safe place to visit.

HELLO THERE:
We are Joe and Liisu, relatively new to KZbin but really excited to be a part of this community. We live small and sustainably in my home on wheels (a lovely van called Freyja) and from time to time out of our backpacks (we have not named the backpacks yet). On this channel, we ask you to join us on our travel adventures off the beaten track where we show you the beauty of untouched nature and wander into places most tourists don't dare to go.

Excellent video.. I've eaten street food for 20 years in Istanbul, never got sick. We don't drink tap water only because it tastes funny. As you say, don't worry about wearing what you want. Haggle, haggle, haggle! Interesting tip, some of the guys selling chestnuts on the street in big cities in Turkey, particularly in tourist areas are undercover cops keeping us safe in the event of problems. Only you'll never know which ones! You can still get bargains on İstiklal street, don't worry about shopping there. In fact some of the malls on the outskirts of the city have very high fashion shops like Louis Vuitton, Cartier etc etc are HUGELY expensive compared to İstiklal. However in the past number of years İstiklal has really gone downhill an awful lot and is not what it was even 10 years ago which is a bit sad. The tram is only to be used if you need to get to the other end in a hurry! As you say, it's nicer to look at than ride in. Apple tea is a glass of apple flavoured sugar that's it. Lol! The Bosphorous cruise is great. We, as locals will often take the Bosphorous cruise. It's not just for tourists!

Due to wealthy Arab tourists, prices in touristic places are extremely high. For example, if you want to eat baklava, you should never eat it in Istiklal Street, the Sirkeci-Eminönü or the Grand Bazaar. find the shops that the locals go to and that have price signs on the wall.

Modern day Turkish citizens are a mix of several ethnicities and races : Turks, Arabs, Greeks, Slavs, Armenians, Kurds, Byzantines and other ethnicities. Do you know how real Turks look like? @@sameharayes It's not about the Arab race. Only 5 million Syrians (as much as a country) have been in Turkey for 11 years and no one has any intention of doing anything about it. This irregular migration led to a lot of problems sociologically and socially, and the indigenous people became restless. Turks can have a mixed race, the important thing is that people are proud of their country and belonging. Arab people of origin in Turkey are located in the eastern and southeastern regions, and we have never seen them differently. So it's not about race. People are tired of the consequences of irregular migration. And I want to ask the Arab countries how many Syrians have you accepted into your countries? Is there half as much as Turkey accepts?

And now with the influx of Afghan, Syrian, etc. immigrants things are even more complicated. It will take some time (possibly a few generations) for those people to adapt to the more liberal culture and moderate view of Islam in Turkey.

@@sameharayes First of all i am not Turkish racially. it's not about the "race" i think it's more about the culture they show... Let me give you an example : I visited the city where i studied in Turkey after a decade and i was almost shocked that some of the main streets were closed by the immigrants, i mean a few men sitting on their chairs in the middle of the street that arouses a feeling of "this is our place and you cannot enter here without our permission". It was not the same city where i left years ago...

I dont like the fact that your girlfriend has to wear a hijab. Turkey is a secular country and the founder of the nation had as an ideal that women would be free to dress how they desire in Turkey. I know its not up to you but it just sucks that it has to be this way
