I’m Ghanaian, Asante to be precise and my husband is Igbo. I was talking to an Asante guy before my husband and it was long. It was a drag. But my husband when he saw me, he said he knew. He told him from the jump that I’ll be his wife. We’re married. We’re happy. Its not easy when it comes to our families due to the cultural differences but we try to focus on us and be honest with each other

True! It also does depend on your family! One has to understand that they will have to get their family on board. It is only natural to expect your child to marry one of you and parents from older generations sometimes have a hard time embracing the idea. If I had told my people 28 years ago even though I was in England that I was considering someone outside! I would have been murdered to say the least. Things have evolved since then but still some parents have a hard time accepting this. I have a 26 year old and in all honesty, I will probably have a talk with her explaining the potential challenges that come with marrying outside your race especially or culture and to be prepared to navigate through them. I say to people, date someone and if that person doesn’t cause you to think about marriage then don’t. The trouble is that most people especially girls put marriage up front and end up in a nice mess! Men like to hunt, so if you display yourself as a “marriage material “ chances are that they won’t be interested because they don’t have to hunt. Not saying to play hard to get, but don’t be desperate! They see it and they don’t like needy!! Present yourself as a valuable human! Best!

So for us living in Nigeria it's still same. I had to forcefully end a good relationship that I know was good for me and I had peace with because he is from the northern part of Nigerian and i am western. I feel most people have a restriction being open minded because of family values. Those set have a serious influence on our decision. I haven't even forgiven myself for just letting go. Both still single though, confused and tired

Real talk, one has to be open minded to find a life partner. If you're looking for a life partner, sometimes it gets hard trying to find the one, the one that meet your expectations and standard and that's the reason why you need to be very open to attract who you want. Another thing you can apply is taking yourself out once in a while. It's also fun when you have your alone time outside and who knows in one of those outings you might find someone interesting that you want to kickstart a relationship with. Please note that there's no limitations when you're in search of a life partner. Be yourself, be vulnerable, be open, be prepared and most of all be prayerful for Divine Direction. These are what helped us in meeting each other and today we are grateful to God for the love we both share. Great Topic Chidera, We Love you and Jason ❤️

The thing about marrying people from different cultures is accepting that your kids may not pick ur language 100%. My cousin is married to a man from Angola n language differences is always a big issue especially when family comes around n as Ghanaians not everyone is willing to speak English at home. My nieces only speak English n that's something the parents have accepted. Even though each one tries to push their language on the kids n they get confused. When argument happen however the husband will threaten my cousin saying he'll take the kids to Angola n obviously that's a foreign country for her.I personally know I cant marry someone that is not Ghanaian cuz I feel more comfortable speaking twi.Sometimes there r some fun things the person may not fully understand if u share with them n u cnt vibe with them about things happening in your country to a deeper level cuz they dont understand. Intercultural marriages dont work for anyone n if she could go back she keeps saying she wouldn't have dated him.She says marrying even a Ghanaian from a different tribe would have been better for her cuz no matter what a lot of things r similar. Then u have Ghanaian marrying Ghanaians living hell on earth in their marriages so it all comes down to luck. Me personally I want to be able to build a house in Ghana one day n in old age I see myself living there not staying in the UK.These r all things people need to consider. It goes beyond feelings of love n it impacts everything.

Hi Steph, thanks for sharing in detail. I get your concerns and honestly I had the same worries. I couldn’t imagine marrying someone I won’t be able to speak my native language Igbo with, lol couldn’t imagine having children that are non-Nigerian but here I am hooked to a Ghanaian 😂. Your concerns are valid but if marrying outside your nationality is meant to be for you, it will be ✨

@@ChideraPeters yeah the main thing is listening to God n it has worked for soo many people. One thing I've noticed with older couples going on pension is tht one will hv to sacrifice n move to the other persons country n is usually the women tht r expected to follow their husbands. Its like Shirley Eniang the youtuber her mum is Ghanaian but she has moved to Nigeria where the husband is from after living in the UK since b4 she was born. Its all about sacrifice n Gods direction as u said regardless of where u r from.

@@MsStefy01 They didn't apply it well. If you have a multiple language opportunity. What they do is, each partner speak his or her language. No mixture, let them speak the official language outside or at school. Trust me they will speak the multiple languages. It might seem, confusing at first. But later in life you will enjoy it. Communicate about this things at the beginning and at intervals.

They just want to marry each other if they marry a different race it will be either a white girl or man . Its more to do with their colonial and religious mindset.

@@postpunkprincess nah not forced per say, I’m a free adult. I made the decision to enter an arranged marriage. It’s that or risk marrying someone that’ll be rejected by family. That’ll be unfair to the woman.

Hmmm. Dating apps in this UK are really the ghetto. Mentally and emotionally exhausting. It's so hard to find good Christian men. Like its actually concerning! I just had to delete my app after two months and I haven't had the ginger to go back since.😪
