Thanks very much.. we can probably do a costs video at some point, it is a money pit lol.. but there is the clear costings for planning, digging, planting and stocking. There are still alot of jobs to complete including fencing, more planting, additional stockings, trail building and then running costs. Once we get it to a point that im more happy with, ill get the calculator out and do an update video..

This is really lovely! Looks great! I study restoration ecology at a major university in the US. Maybe your local ecology is different, but the only thing I might suggest is gentler graduation on your edges. You have shallow areas, which are great and will serve some of the same purpose, but having water gently slope from a few cm with little dropoff helps vegetation establish and promote invertebrate growth. Y'all may have issue with bank degradation down the line if aquatic plants have a hard time growing. Depending on water height it may not be very easy for wildlife to reach, either.

Hi @borthwick Thanks... Yeah i agree, this project we learnt alot and if we do anouther one we would definately do things different. The dam wall is far to steep, although hopefully we have mitigated that with planting phragmities which should migrate down to a depth of 4/5ft creating a good stable reed bed. The island we did manage to get a good 5ft wide shelf around 3/4 of it, which should act as a good planting zone for the aquatic marginals. The main section of the lake wrapping around to the shallows I wish we had a better shelf and definately next time we would do a better job of creating one. Its already naturally starting to create its own shelf in this part, with the errosion.. but lessons learnt. In the areas which have a gentle slope going into the lake we are planting it with mixed aqautic marginals and the steeper sections we are experimenting with more aggresive species that will migrate out to deeper water... that may end up leading to alot more managment of those species if they migrate to other sections of the lake but is the best we can do with what we've got.. hopefully it ends up full of plants and a thriving ecosystem... already kind of excited to do anouther lake project!

Very good point. Can't go wrong simulating nature.

Incredible. It took me longer than 14 minutes just to remove a couple of square foot of topsoil.
