WE CAME BACK TO KOREA 🇰🇷 (Seoul vlog, 서울 브이로그)

Korea is legitimately my happy place. The people are funny, kind and generous (especially older people). Busan is my favorite place to stay, maybe because I'm from New Zealand so I'm used to being close to the beach and seafood. I'm going back in January / February (I love winter) for 3 weeks and really want to stay in Jeonju, it's supposed to be awesome. Having Hays with you will definitely be helping but generally the older people love when foreigners are interested in their food and culture. The fried stuff is Korean pancakes / fritters called jeon and is an anju (food served with alcohol) for makgeoli (rice wine). Some key words : saeoo = shrimp, dwejigogi = pork, sogogi = beef, Jjigae = stew so kimchi Jjigae, doenjang Jjigae, soondubu (soft tofu) jjigae. Guk is soup, gukbap is soup served with rice usually beef or pork and you put the rice in it. Naengmyun is cold noodles, bibim naengmyun is without broth and has a spicy sauce, mul naengmyun is with icy broth. If you're near Hongdae I recommend Myth Jokbal it's pork trotters braised in like a almost 5 spice broth and served with lettuce wraps. I know it sounds weird eating trotters but it's really good. Hays might like jumeokbap (fist rice or rice balls) they usually put seaweed chopped up jokbal carrots and i think mayo in them. Gyeramgjjim or steamed egg is really good and gyerangmari is rolled egg omelet with chopped vegetables in it usually.

Love that you guys came back. I’ve been living here for almost 3 years now as a Korean American and you’re actually helping me discover new places haha. If you’re still here, you should go to kpop idol birthday events around the city. Celebrating birthdays of kpop artists is a huge thing here and today is Jungkook’s (Center and main vocalist of BTS) birthday. In Hongdae, so many cafes have his photos everywhere and on their cups. It’s not just Hongdae but that’s the best place for it. There is this place called common ground in 건대입구역 lines 2,7. It’s a shopping and eating area made of shipping container boxes! The whole place will be decorated with photos of Jungkook starting today! I think it would be a fun experience for you!!

Loved your trip videos through SE Asia, and wow, pleasantly surprised to see you guys return to Korea! If you guys have time, I would suggest a trip out to Korea's east coast. Hajodae Beach is really nice with shallow, clear turquoise water and lots of seaside cafes. Or, a weekend trip to Jeju Island. Safe travels and enjoy! Also, Steph, you're right about clothes colors that people wear! It's a cultural thing where people don't want to stick out and neutrals just go with everything.

I'm so relieved that you decided to go back to Seoul. After a typhoon passes, the weather is clearer. So it is better to travel. Gyeongju is a must-see for anyone traveling to Korea. 1. Cheomseongdae(a symbolic cultural heritage)(첨성대) -Stop: Wolseong-dong Community Center -Distance from stop: 5-7 minutes 2. Daereungwon(The Park of Royal Tombs)(대릉원) - Distance: 15 minutes from Cheomseongdae on foot 3. Gyeongju East Palace Garden(보문단지) -Bukgun-dong Pension Village and Donggungwon Bus Stop / 2min 4. Bulguksa Temple(불국사) -Bulguksa stop/3-5 minutes on foot In the evening. 1. Wolji(월지) : The best time to see Wolji is in the evening, more specifically during what is called the “magic hour” where the setting sun bathes the restored buildings in soft light, making the already gorgeous scenery even more beautiful. (It is not so pretty during the daytime. ) You may be reached at the above Tourist Spots via Bus No.10. Maybe you can get a pamphlet in English at bus terminal. I hope these information helps a bit on your trip.

I'm super excited to see where your Korea travel part 2 takes you, but in the meantime some travel suggestions for Gyeongju (lots of history since it's the capital of Silla aka the Golden Kingdom): Tumuli Park (or also known as Daereungwon Tomb Complex, there's a little museum @ Cheonmachong where they show you how they built up these tombs and preserved them over a long period of time); Hwangnidan-gil (streets full of traditional eateries and shops, you can dress up in Hanbok); Gyeongju Tower & Hwangnyongsa Temple (architecturally beautiful); Pororo Aqua Village (pororo is a very famous children's cartoon character in KR, similar to Sesame Street); Cheomseongdae (Korea and East Asia's first observatory); Anapji Pond at night. And oh, don't forget to try out some unique bows and arrow shooting cafes back in Seoul, along with finding showtimes for a Nanta performance (a Korean non-verbal comedy/cooking show that incorporates traditional samulnori sounds).
