Very commonly messes with player perception to communicate how its getting harder to tell what's real and what's not. Since it's gotten more popular these days, denpa doesn't HAVE to have these literal things though, as long as it has a sort of "unexpected psychological fucked-upedness" feeling. Doki Doki Literature Club counts. Silent Hill does not.
