Those retractors weren't used for decades by the time of the Ragnar battle, so they're probably faster now, with proper maintenance, and I'm pretty sure such a critical system would have more controls (including speed) than just "push in, push out)
@GlamorousTitanic212 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love the retracting flight pods and I really wish we had seen more awesome clips from different angles. Apparently, in universe the Jupiter Class’s design was such that there were several reasons why the pods retracted. One was to make the ships size smaller, because not all of the ship would fit inside the bubble of bent space when the FTL drive engaged, and thus the flight pods would be ripped apart after jumping. The second was because the ship was not built to deal with the stress of repeatedly jumping with the flight pods all the way out; thus, the frame had to be more compact to retain a greater sense of rigidity.

She does jump with the pods extended to escape the cylon colony however it breaks her spinal structures. I think they retract to reduce stress on the frame of the ship more than anything as we know she can jump with them out. But its more efficient/less stress on the ship to be more compact

Saul: "If she jumps insde this ship the spacial disruption could tear galacticas guts out..." Which begs the question. Why didn't cylon raiders just jump next to galacticas hull and immediately jump again and just devastate its hull untill the ship tore apart. Look at the damage one raptor jumping at point blank did to galactica. imagine a swarm of a dozen raiders jumping all around galacticas hull, each disruption as powerful as a nuke strike. Hell they could have wiped out the entire civilian fleet with this tactic before galactica could have even reacted.

That would have taken too much time. Galactica at this point was 5 years in space without a refit or repair. The battle damage had taken it's toll. Slamming into New Caprica's atmosphere didn't help either.

One of my favorite scenes in the whole show. Dont know how many times i watched this part back in days over and over again. Here is a random goof: At first Hoshi calls her raptor as 719 (0:06) then he calls same raptor as 219 (0:46)
@phaiz552 жыл бұрын
I never understood how a raptor jumping did this much damage to Galatica but the fuel ship jumping with a raptor basically soft docked barely pushed it away.
@ThatDutchPerson2 жыл бұрын
This was explained elsewhere I believe. Its the fact that these spatial disruptions Tigh talks about are basicly shockwaves. A raptor and Viper are small and casually tag along for the ride on such shockwaves. However, Galactica is much larger and has far less flexabillity in that regards. Its too massive and heavy to absorb the shockwaves, and thus, the shockwaves rip the sections they hit apart instead.

Let me get this straight. Galactica survives a nuclear impact, an unstable gravitational and atmospheric re-entry, the radiation of a star going nova, a fight with the Cylon Capital, and untold numbers of battles against diminishing odds...and even the enemy doesn't show respect or hommage to their foes that thwy vanquished "in a night?" I was under the impression that Galactica couldn’t retract the Flight Pods, hence why she eventually broke her back by jumping with them extended - or did that happen later?
@danielhaire66772 жыл бұрын
All Battlestars can retract the pods. This is because Raptors and Shuttles need to take off from them and all recovered ships need to land on them. As such when extended out, they are exposed to vacuum and any threats in the area.

So if FTL that close can cause that much damage the cylons should have made FTL drones that fly up, jump, cause damage and jump back to be redeployed. Heck just jump next to or into the ship. Doesn't seem like they have any EM counter measures to this.

I really didn't like the post-mutiny episodes of the final season. Suddenly the proximity of a jumping vessel is an issue when it was never mentioned before, suddenly Hera matters, Tory who was a last-minute second season plot contrivance to replace Billy not only matters but becomes a villain, the Zodiac symbols of the 13th tribe sort of don't matter, Baltar's cult becomes a police force but then that gets dropped, on and on. The only cool thing was the theme of blending Cylon and human inside Galactica.
