Gaeta was a genius villain. I hated him but also entirely understood his perspective. Cylons genocided his entire race. He lost his leg to a cylon. Suddenly his commander wants to ally with them, maybe I would do the same in his position. Gaetas character arc was genius
@CrazyChemistPL Жыл бұрын
Honestly, Gaeta just lost his hope and it surfaced in a different way to most other people, as seen with Dee and general unruliness aboard Galactica after finding the original Earth. He was one of the nicest people to Sharon Agathon, addressing her by name and being gentle with her during the logic bomb crysis, he was one of the first people to notice humanity in Cylons. He showcased exceptional bravery working as a mole for the resistance on New Caprica. Finally, however it all became too much for him, New Caprica, the secret tribunal after evacuation and his near execution, losing his leg, Earth revelation and finally being the last person who seen Dee alive and not seeing the signs of what she was planning. But, in the end, he realized the mutiny was a wrong call, he gave the order to stand down even if he had to expect it will cost him his life. And finally he was given an officer's death, firing squad rather than being spaced.

So lets take a look at that. * He gets his leg blown of by a cylon and nobody cared * he worked with colonists on new Caprica to save them from the cylons. * He was found guilty by a star chamber and almost blown out an air lock for being a traitor. * Turns out 4 of the 5 people who found him guilty of being a traitor were cylons. * Adama's second in command is a cylon. * Adama is working with the cylons. * Adama has had a military dictatorship. * Adama trusts cylons over him when he was loyal.
@WiiMan11332 жыл бұрын
@@cb-gz1vl I don't condone what Gaeta or Zarek did, but this mutiny arc felt more forced than a natural, logical progression for either character. And I'm especially not a fan of how Adama and Roslin never owned their contribution to the mess that they made. Because I guess they had it harder than anyone else in the fleet and how dare anyone else question them So I completely agree with your list of reasons why Gaeta resorted to mutiny. And while it was never a central fixture of the show, Gaeta's genuinely loving friendship with Dualla probably drove him over the edge too. In many ways, Gaeta and Dualla got ruthlessly butchered by the writers, because I guess we couldn't have two of the easily most decent human beings on the show actually making it all the way to the end. Dualla stood by Lee despite his obvious lack of care for her, and the implied lack of interest Adama had in her as his actual daughter-in-law as he kept trying to find daughters in Kara and Kat. She even ventured across enemy lines to rescue Kara while she was having an affair with Lee and Lee still gaslit her when she confronted him on it. Then, after giving her NOTHING to do for half a season, she blows her head off, and Lee and Adama spent maybe 5 minutes being upset about it And Gaeta, the only confirmed queer male character on the show, who was a genuinely decent moral person, snaps and is executed by firing squad...and Baltar not only lives, but patronizes him during the mutiny and watches him die. Ok thanks alot BSG writers. Not sure what the point of any of this was except to make me feel a deep sense of nihilism and subsequently not care how the show ends
@cb-gz1vl2 жыл бұрын
@@WiiMan1133 Oh I agree this whole mutiny thing was a crammed in, forced drama. Plus why would Gaeta listen to some radical who was always revolting and pretty obviously just to gain power. Even if he had grievances his association with that guy was idiotic. And where were they going to go? Also Gaeta is a military guy, why would he take orders from some radical who is just seeking power over Adama who he has known for years and knows is not a power hungry person. A lot of this show was forced drama. I get you have to fill 50 minutes but this stuff made me get sick of the show. People simply are not this dysfunctional. The colonies seemed to be more like some gangster soviet style country than a place of progress.
