Just another wedge to drive in between the races, you hear about it every 4 years.I don't know how they think all this stuff up!Black vs White,Man vs woman ....everyone vs everyone? I live about 3 miles from an Indian reservation ,been there hundreds of times.A wise Chief once told me "outstretch your arms, the people who you can touch are the ones you can help"

Love that quote! And I do agree, I do think a lot of these topics are used to create greater division. But I also believe with the conversation around reparations I don’t think it’s being used to divide more of so used to “earn the black vote.”

You mainly hear about reparations being owed in the U.S. but they consistently overlook the black Americans who owned slaves and completely ignore the fact that NO Americans would have had African slaves if they hadn’t been sold by their own people in the first place.

In the early days of the American Republic Barbary Pirates would targeting and ransacking U.S. shipping vessels as they transferred goods along the coast of North Africa. The crew would be held for ransom or sold into slavery. The horrors of slavery is not limited to one country, continent, or race. No nation can fully claim victimhood. Before discussing reparations we should look at the devastation impact reparations have had on the native population. Land allotments and government handouts have turned a group of fierce warriors into wards of the state, much like welfare has done in the black community. During Mao’s Great Leap Forward, collectivism was supposed to bring equality and prosperity. Equality among the masses did eventually materialize, but prosperity did not. When DuBois made his trip to China in 1959 to praise Mao’s communist system, DuBois enjoyed lavish dinners with government officials including Mao Zedong. All this happened as millions of Chinese were starving to the point they were willing to eat mud. Whether you call it collectivism, democratic socialism, or communism, what it really is, is slavery. If those who desire reparations really cared about slavery, they should put their money where their mouth is.

This is a solid argument! How do you feel about incentives, as in investing in more underserved communities that disproportionately affect black communities?

@@uduak.nkanga We are $34 trillion in debt, I don’t think we’re in a position to give large swathes of people stipends. This will only accelerate the national deficit. This doesn’t mean we should ignore low income communities. In years past when people needed help they turned to the church, today they turn to the government. That trend needs to be reversed. Today we talk to one another as if we are enemies, yet Jesus said to “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you”. Personally, I think we would do well to review what Booker T. Washington did to help former slaves. He prepared them to live as free people. We see shadows of Washington’s work in South Korea. Once they’re confident a North Korean defector is not a spy, they help catch them up on their education and teach them how to live as free people. There is a stigma against North Koreans by many South Koreas, but it’s up to the defectors to overcome those stigmas to become successful. As Thomas Sowell often says, “There are no solutions, there are only trade offs”. So even if the government can afford to support a segment of the population, would it truly be helpful to those people? They will inevitably have to live by a set of conditions, so is that true freedom? My thoughts are help them learn basic life skills which aren’t being taught anymore. Money management, personal responsibility, consequences of ones actions, and the value of faith. This would be more helpful than anything the government could give them. If stipends are to be issued they must be limited and have a cut off point. For example education, but this does not mean the government pays for their entire college. There’s value in paying for it yourself. Even this would be controversial, but I feel it’s a reasonable compromise.

@@uduak.nkanga , at the very least, your idea compels some action to be productive, to create or take part in growth. It's a more amenable concept than simply doling out a check. Reparations "seems" to mean, because you exist, you get something. There's a strange assumption that just because someone, long ago, should have earned something (in this case, a slave)...that their descendants would have been good decision-making stewards of the wealth, when clearly MOST families (including white families) are not at all that way. I would be willing to bet my paycheck that even the bulk of the slave owners' descendants are not wealthy. I'm not sure if we'll ever know, beyond theorizing.

So, decendants of plantation owners should be compensated also?

When a debt is owed, a debt is owed? Uh, no. I will NOT be held accountable for the decisions of others. Not my father. Not my grandparents. No. Every person's ancestor was a slave at one point. Full stop. It just depends upon how far back you choose to go to fulfill your narrative. Native American tribes stole the land from other tribes. Why is it only important when a European comes to take their land? All of a sudden it matters?

Well, it may have been hard for you, but for you to be even willing to consider the insanity of rhis subject says alot about you. God bless you for insight and objectivity . You appear to be black and I am white. Will you marry me? What more can i say?

I never thought about the reparation thing from that perspective and standpoint. I agree that asking for incentives would be a more practical and sensible request....

Likewise! Because the feasibility of “reparations” whether we want to admit it or not is so low 😭
