We Care About Need for Speed |

The recent news about how the majority of Criterion staff is now helping with Battlefield's development has upset the Need for Speed community. This has started a small movement to show EA that we care about Need for Speed, and to talk about things we want to see from the series.

I imagine a much better timeline where Black Box still exists and makes NFS games alongside with Criterion, with Black Box focusing on Underground/Most Wanted style games with customization, and Criterion focusing on Hot Pursuit style cops vs racers games. That way we don't have to wait 2-3 years for the next game and both developers get enough time to make their games.

Nah,Black Box are the guys who made Undercover,The Run, and Prostree.The Run isn't bad but nowhere great,Undercover is broken,Prostreet is meh with it's terrible totaling system,lack of gameplay variety,awful camera and mediocre graphics even for it's time.Also game had lots of technical issues and the handling sucked. Also Burnout will be better than NFS ever will be.I don't need NFS at all as long as Burnout exists.

You know what I miss the most? Quick Race mode, missing in action since 2010. I like playing racing games the way I want, not the way that the programmers thought would be the coolest. I simply want to be able to pick any car and set up races with custom rules.

What I miss is when NFS games had ambition and passion, when you feel like they tried and when they try to explore what they can do with the series, games like hot pursuit, underground, most wanted, pro street, and even shift. NFS never really had an established identity considering its origins and how it changed over the years, it has variety but most importantly it was about fast cars being driven to the limit with physics to match. So as to what i want changed, NO MORE HALF ASSED ATTEMPTS AT RECREATING AN EXPERIENCE CLOSE TO UNDERGROUND OR MW 05. I felt like ever since 2015, the games that came out are various attempts at the formula established by those games with varying success. Payback and Heat were honestly good to me because they did try some different things by mixing up like action packed missions and an attempt to mix legal and illegal racing with heat though it didnt fully capture it, i still actually appreciated the attempt to do so. Im not saying they should ditch it entirely but i want them to take a break from doing the same underground style games and try something new and fresh, heck ill accept even if they ditch the open world aspect at least for once in favor of over the top unique tracks, like imagine going fast through unique locations and with various different features like maybe huge jumps, just make them unique and fun to drive at. To add to that, the physics, i dont care if its a brake to drift handling or grip handling, i just want the physics to work and not feel janky. HP 2010 honestly had the best B-2-D handling model, the cars feel planted and they actually drift around corners well with still some level of control needed if you want to optimize your speed. In terms of a more grippy handling, id say the undergrounds, most wanted, and Hot Pursuit 2 were good examples of that. Heat was very close to nailing it, but screwed up on drifting and how unstable it can be when you drive fast sometimes. JUST MAKE IT WORK AND FUN TO DRIVE. As for story, to me its simple, make it good or dont make one at all.

i really hate what EA are doing to the franchise. in the last 8 years we've had 4 games which would all be a good base for a better game to be made out of. Arguably they were all also that better game (except payback, fuck payback) but they are missing THE big step forward. Blackbox completely reinvented the series with their second game. Criterion with their first game were a return to tradition in HP2010, and Ghost did (or tried to do) the same with 2015. But since then, we've just had iterations. I still have hope that the next Criterion game is what i'm talking about, but with the battlefield news i'm not very optimistic

I feel like NFS has been in a "Malaise Era" after NFS: Carbon, there are some instalments in the series that are met with positive reception (Shift 1 & Shift 2 Unleashed, HP2010 & HP2010 Remastered) while others are met with mixed to negative reception (Payback, 2015, Rivals, Pro Street, Undercover, The Run, Unbound). They really need to knuckle down and work on making the newest entry the best one possible, if not then the series will end up being shelved permanently.

Codemasters Cheshire (who got turned into Criterion Runcorn) already helped with NFS Unbound, so I'd imagine they are helping with the next Need for Speed as well.

I do agree with almost everything you've said, but personally I loved Unbound and it was a perfect modern NFS title for me. I loved how difficult and punishing it was, the handling which was much improved, the visuals/vibe, the music, the unique animations/graphical style, and even the story. It confuses me that so many people hate it.

Agreed! I feel like it has become a trend to always hate on the latest Need for Speed game and only grow some degree of love for it several years after its death. Saw that with Rivals, happened with the reboot (2015) as well, and is now happening with Heat. It's an endless cycle. Need for Speed: Unbound is the best modern Need for Speed game and it's not even close.

I think while a good story would be good for the series I think the next game should dump the story and focus on handling and then after that game focus on a good story.

as someone that owns a physical copy of every single mainline NFS game, i can say that i would be perfectly fine without another subpar NFS like we've been getting since 2008 with a couple exceptions (i like HP2010 and The Run, and Heat and Unbound are decent). don't get me wrong, i would absolutely love another NFS if they can actually make a good one worth playing more than once, but can they really do that?

I'd be OK with Need for Speed taking a few years off IF a new Burnout game could come out to fill that gap. But with no Burnout, NFS taking a break is going to make the arcade racing space way more empty than it already is.

Whole heatedly agree on physics. IDGAF about storylines in NFS would rather all focus go to multiplayer(cops and racers without some of the gadgets just roadblocks and helicopters) and physics

​@@nfsiiihpseriously, even the concept in general is something I wish EA would think about, High Stakes (the actual gamemode) was dope, imagine winning your best friends favorite car from him, than using that car to progress in singleplayer. I've always hated what NFS has been since 2015, Not that the games themselves are horrible, but they keep doing the same "We are going back to our roots with Underground!!" thing for all of the last games, yet Underground isnt even the roots of the series, if anything the HP2010 Remastered was going back to the roots of the series, Open road racing (and Hot Pursuit). High Stakes is perfect to re-imagine for going back to the NFS Roots, it started what a majority of NFS gameplay mechanics are used, to even today. For example, First game to feature an ACTUAL career mode and economy, complete with purchasing and upgrading cars. The game also Refined Hot Pursuits, turning them from gimmick (ish), to full on coordinated takedowns. If you want to get real technical, it was also the first game to feature "Pursuit Tech" (weapons and powers), although only for cops it allowed for calling back-up, Road blocks, spike strips etc. First game to use licensed music (Only reason people say Hot Pursuit 2 did it first is because sadly people dont pay much attention to electronic music.) Sorry I went on a rant, Im going to calm down by playing some NFS High Stakes rn.

And after Black Box and Ghost, now you did this to Criterion too but they're only gonna make Battlefield by having a lot of staff working for the game. I grew up playing Need for Speed when I was 8 years old in 2006 with Most Wanted 2005 and it changed my life. I’m 25 now and it’s just not the same game anymore that I grew up with. Bring back the metal soundtracks, real cop chatter, actual cutscenes, etc. #WeWantNFS

I just find EA a bizarre company While they don't seem like they are down evil era (cough NFSPB, DS3, SWBF2...), i wish they would return to 2000s or even 90s like design to a degree One time they will release a banger (Dead space remake) and another that is not fully reached it's potinenial (NFSUB) It's because i liked unbound after not wanting to try it for the artstyle, i bought an xbox SS (After playing on PC but having few fps problems and it was on sale) EA can cleary make good and decent games, it's has to do with the focus of profit and reduce (or even limit) the devs passion by low time to finish the game develpment IDK how to explain it, but i feel like if nfs went with having a game in work for 3 to 5 years while the last has support to left alive and well with the commuity, then i think the fan base would be fine with waiting couple of years for the next game; but it has to come out as new revaluation instead of evolution (kinda like how gta moved from 3D to HD era) lastly marketing needs to be increased again, case like i only head about unbound like few times (IRL) and all were around the game launch

Physics has SUCKED in NFS since the 2015 release. The physics Criterion used in the 2010 Hot Pursuit game was extremely arcadey, but felt awesome. Now however, the cars feel like they don't have wheels. It all feels very scripted. Rather than actual physics doing the work.

Lets face it, the Need For Speed series is "dead" for close to two decades. After Carbon, EA had no idea how to make the series better and the games that followed on were either mediocre or outright terrible. None of those games post Carbon up until last year were anywhere good as Carbon and the predecessors. They cannot reach the peak anymore. EA had no idea how to improve the series other than just thinking about stealing our money with each new games. They dont care about their fans at all. Yes, they used to care at one point but those days are long gone and dont ever expect that again. Back then when the series made lots of attention, thats when EA will do anything to keep the franchise alive. But now that its losing money, they kicked the series to a corner and slowly, the series is ignored and we dont get new games as frequently anymore. EA will not waste time on things that cant generate enough revenue and Need For Speed is one of them We all can tell them what we really want but honestly, will they even listen? The answer will be NO. Im not hating this hashtag because i support it as well. In the end, this community can make lots of videos telling them what we want but it will end up with the same result. The people at EA are probably laughing at our small actions thinking it will change their mind in the slightest. EA do not care and if this really means the end of the series, then so be it. Just end it all as no one in the company are reliable for any project

We need a story where Ryan Cooper comes back to Street Racing, maybe in Rockport. And they need more realistic physics, something like Forza Horizon where you can pull off some crazy arcadey shit but it still feels like youre driving an actual car. They could call it Most Wanted 2

@@nfsiiihp Yeah. Actually, if NFS games from 1994 to 2002 weren't made and if NFS Hot Pursuit 2 PS2 was a monumental failure, NFS games from 2003 to 2008 made by Black Box wouldn't exist in the 1st place. The same can be said for NFS games since 2009. So, we have to be grateful of their existence.
