I remember seeing a study that showed bees produce more honey & brood in hives that were deeper than they were wide, which makes me think that hanging the bucket vertically would more closely mimic what they would find in nature inside of hollow tree trunks.

Thank you for your videos! A lot of beekeepers don't mention their location in their videos. It leaves out a lot of perspective about weather zones and available forage. There's a world of difference between Florida and Minnesota. I'm not looking for a name and address, just the state works fine.

You did not do too bad. you should have just push the comb a little higher to almost the top, they will build it up faster. At least you got.free bees, that is good you did not had to pay a scent. 👍🏻
@badassbees36803 жыл бұрын
Make SURE they aren't in full sun all day and get evening shade and you'll have more success.Bees won't commit to a trap if it gets too hot, good luck this Season, great video!

Really good video ! What would happen if you left them in the bucket ?
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia5 жыл бұрын
They would keep growing and when it got to full the queen would swarm again and find a new home. She would leave queen cells for another queen to take over that hive.
@kennethlatham25173 жыл бұрын
When you put the comb in the frames you should place it at the top.
@badassbees36803 жыл бұрын
Sometimes their NOT big enough and won't stay at the Top , so in this case if you put a starter strip they'll drawn it down to the comb on bottom

Is there a reason you put the bucket lid to the tree and not up? Does it give better results than strapping the bucket to the tree upright?

3 frames of drawn comb is too much. if you have more comb than the bees an cover, you will get wax moths. let them build more comb as they need it, one frame of drawn comb is plenty unless you get a big swarm.

$ 150 for a hive is not much , on my side of the world a ten frame hive would go for $ 1000 😢 and I bought 7 of those before I started traping, now I'm at 12 hives , and will never buy another hive yup I'll trap instead .
