The law on paracetamol and ibuprofen has been around since 1998.. it's to reduce suicides.. of course this didn't stop people going to diff shops to get more but the amount needed would take a few shops. So that's why they called the manager as it was one household buying the limit they are allowed to sell.

If you were a mystery shopper from head office the person who approved your sale would have lost their job as it’s against the law. Companies have mystery shoppers very regularly and they act as regular people to test protocol x
@littleredhead19994 ай бұрын
i work in retail and we have test shoppers who will try and buy more than 2 lots of tablets to trip us up and get us in trouble to make sure we’re sticking to the rules we have to refuse calpol without ID meaning young parents can’t buy their children calpol, there are so many rules in retail and if you’re to break them just once, i know people who have and lost their job and can’t work in retail because they broke the law so so frustrating for both you guys and us, we don’t want to refuse you but we just can’t risk our jobs over a pack of paracetamol. love you guys ❤
@jessicahoward6644 ай бұрын
It’s been law since long before Covid. Regardless the fact they were children’s meds and adult meds, the laws are in place to stop people abusing it. People will still abuse children’s medication given the chance. Even though you were doing a separate transaction, the shop are actually following the law by refusing the sale knowing you’re together. It is annoying, but at the end of the day it’s not worth the risk to the cashier. Fines, a criminal record, shop loosing a license ect and even prison time are at risk. You’ve also got to remember they don’t know you from Adam, you may be mystery shopper sent in to test things like this.

I think you need to be a little more understanding towards retail staff. The colleague wasn't being a jobs worth. She was doing her job, that she's paid to do. If she got pulled up on authorising a transaction with multiple packs of tablets, she'd basically lose her job.
@JessVirgo138234 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it's been a law for a really long time, and unless you've worked in a shop/chemist you will never understand the frustration when customers get pi**y when they can't buy more than two, it's not worth your job at the end of the day so you just take the verbal abuse that comes with it 🙄

2 pharmaceutical products wasnt a rule because of covid, it has been the law for many years from the 90s . Not recent at all i believe, even though it does sometimes feel silly to refuse sale of products like you guys had. It would of cost them there job or they would of been fined if they sold it you and someone found out. Retailers have secret shoppers all year round, to test these exact things I work in retail and secret shoppers come in all the time so its better to be careful with things like that. x

I agree the woman made it difficult but I do think some people are genuinely scared of getting in trouble so wouldn’t bend the rules. But the 2 products containing paracetamol/ibuprofen has been around for ages and I don’t really see the point as if you wanted to harm yourself you could just go to multiple shops anyway. Interesting they don’t limit alcohol or cigarettes though isn’t it? 🤔
@rebeccagarner23784 ай бұрын
Yea as much as we may understand as retail workers/pharmacy workers that you are purchasing the paracetamol for two different people/reasons, we legally can’t sell that much either in same transaction or knowingly, as it’s against the law so we would lose our jobs and face possible prison time just because you want more paracetamol, and it was put in place to prevent suicides as it’s meant to be “more effort” to travel to different places and give the person time to think about what they’re doing, so I also morally would not want that responsibility of someone’s life potentially on my head, as believe it or not it has actually happened in places I’ve worked in, so if it’s me taking someone being abit annoyed with me to prevent the loss of someone’s life I would put up with that, as well as not losing my job/gaining a criminal record because someone doesn’t want to just travel another so many yards for more if they need it that desperately xx healthcare rules are never in place just to annoy you, they are there because serious medical incidents have happened previously when they weren’t in place and are put in place to hopefully prevent those things from happening again, no hate tho just spreading awareness xx

They should make it so that if there's a family and there's then 1 medical items for each person, so that way everyone can be medically treated instead of having to travel to multiple places and have a inconvience. Let's not lie if people really wanted to commit suicide that badly they would find a way regardless of limitations on medications. Just my personal opinion on the matter✌️

I have never commented on a KZbin video before but am quite upset with how you spoke about your Sainsbury's experience. It is the law and I myself am a retail worker and customers like you who try to blame us or the managers are really unfair, we didn't make the law or the policies, we just enforce them, we can go to prison if we don't follow them. If you have any issues with them, it should not be directed to the staff. I agree the rule is silly when it comes to children's and adult medication but it's been the rules for decades and we don't deserve the daily arguments over it when we are just doing our jobs. The manager who approved the second transaction broke the law (I myself am a manager), the law is per household. They most likely only did it to get you to go because they are fed up with dealing with the conversations or being shouted at day in and day out. We hate it more than you do.
