We chip all foals at Stal H and Stal G | Fun with the cats| Friesian Horses

All horses must be chipped. We do this when the foals are still with their mother. The DNA of Friesian horses must also be checked. This is to check whether the parents are correct. But also to discover hereditary diseases.

Did I catch the fact that the Vet is the breeder and owner of Thekla, who is in the same bloodline for Uniek and Hester? I rewatched several times in hopes that I got that right. With the smile on the Vet's face, I assume he is involved with these gorgeous horses. I find comments about how painful the chip insert to be comical, no different than getting a vaccine/shot in the arm. But then again, when blood is drawn from me, I don't feel a thing. This was very interesting. The vet is so practiced that not a single kick, in spite of a painful tail-pull. The mares seem to know what is coming: they get shivers in their necks before some mane is pulled out! Perhaps it has happened many times. There is nothing more relaxing than the sound of a cat purring (though the sound of a horse ffffhhhhrrr-ing is close!). Blessings to Risey.

Here in Canada, if you've got a difficult horse to shoe, you use the 'twitch' on them, a chain (attached to a stick) that wraps around the nose to keep them occupied while the ferrier does the feet.

I'm a cat lover, too, Yvonne. Hmmm.. more of a cat whisperer. They tend to flock to my tiny little farm in rural area. Actually, most of them are abandoned pets that aren't wanted or can't be kept anymore. So sad for them. Most warm up to me fairly quickly, but a few are hardcore feral. I like dogs, too, andlike having them around for protection. But I can't relate to them as well as cats. I especially love black cats. Jelle reminds me of my black cat, Cinder. Only Cinder has a white diamond on his chest. I love to hear cats purr.. very soothing & healing.

VERY INTERESTING. I had no idea about the hair / DNA testing even though it makes a lot of sense. (I had a guy ask to borrow one on my mares papers once for a colt of his. I said no way) but I understand completely the need for DNA. We didn’t chip any of ours. It was between 1980 - 1995 and these were just Kentucky Walking horses.

I forgot that you have to chip the foals every year. It’s interesting to watch. The DNA from the sires must be on file online. Is Johnny’s DNA on file to match up with Peach and Mario? Haha! I feel like mentioning a tip for your vet is to get some hockey tape and wrap his finger before yanking horse hairs (if he's going to do several horses or more at once), because it protects your finger from being cut by the horse hair, without sacrificing your grip or sensitivity of touch. It's a woven cloth tape with a mild adhesive, so it won't stick horribly to your skin, either (UNLIKE athletic tape). I use it a lot in whip making (which involves a lot of yanking fine threads, believe it or not). Yes, I have calluses, too, but sometimes that's not enough.

I like to watch the vet chip the new foals. Though having your hair pulled out by the roots...ouch! Mario's chip went in np and Saly didn't even budge! Wytse is still a sensitive baby yet . Jildo kind of jumped too so I guess he comes by it naturally. 🐴💞 I'm in Oda's group, more a dog person .🐶😁🩷

All the kids did so well getting their chips of course Boefke Boy had to throw in some silliness to make everyone laugh though it was a little scary for a few but lots of pets and scratches were on hand to keep them calm just a necessary part of caring for these special horses. Love Kiki and Joep as management,supervising the vet making sure he’s doing everything correctly the sweetest sound is when a kitty has their motor going full blast.🥹🖤🧡😻😻
