You ain’t kidding. I want to get a midsize but I can’t justify the price tag. The top 3 I have on my list the Colorado, frontier, and Tacoma. I like the frontier that isn’t not turbo charged and it’s the only one I test drove. I’m a Chevy guy and really like the look of the Colorado but also consider the Tacoma since Toyota has been known to have longevity.

57:45 - Roman, most of us have one or two cars not 20 that cycle through every four months so we get used to what we have. I still don’t like the ignition button but when you’re not hopping between vehicles, your muscle memory sets in. your complaint is unwarranted. As far as engines go, I won’t trust the turbo until I see many of them crossing the 200,000 mile mark without major engine repair.

I had it for a few days as we swapped trucks for shits and giggles. Its so smooth and comfortable I am seriously considering trading the Gladiator in for it. Its not a rugged exterior and not meant for serious off roading but everything else about it is perfect for everyday use. Its truly the perfect non off road every day truck.

I just drove my son's 2019 Honda Ridgeline. I personally have a 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave. It's color is Nacho so I understand Andre's plight with the color. Most people really like it. The Ridgeline is the most comfortable truck I've driven. When you look at it from the outside it doesn't impress. However the roominess and comfort of the interior and its on road manners is remarkable. If you are not planning on using the truck for rock climbing or serious off roading I would absolutely consider it. You don't even know you are in a truck, its that smooth.

You say all of these are about $45k, but what you're getting for that $45k varies pretty wildly...... Let's compare: Nissan Hardbody is about $46k, but is their top trim. The Honda Trailsport is also about $46k but is well-equipped (leather seats, etc). The Tailboss... That starts at $38,000 and MAYBE touches $46k if you option it with everything... which you didn't, so that truck is NOT $45k. The Ranger hits $45k is if you get it pretty well decked out. The Tacoma.... is $45k for a TRD Off Road... barebones with an automatic transmission. No leather seats. No options. Nada. So.... please.... be more honest about what you're getting for the money. 🙄

Not bad. A good overall comparison with no clear winner. It totally depends on what you are looking for in a truck. It seems like the pricing followed the level of options. The Honda had heated everything, and powered leather memory seats and it was the most expensive. The Nissan & Ford were next followed by the Taco then the Trailboss.

Glad to see the Ridgeline as an actual part of the comparison. It’s a bit exhausting hearing all about the higher tow or off-road chops for some of these brands when so so many consumers aren’t going to need to actually use that capability often. But fitting a friend, a kid, or a dog in the back seat, or driving for longer than 30 minutes with some regularity for comfort, or needing a vehicle that doesn’t need a step stool for the whole family to get into it, isn’t worth heavy consideration typically with the truck content. I get the niche that the truck channel serves, and the fact y’all are in Colorado, but the midsize segment doesn’t feel like it serves the same market/needs as the heavy duty or full size segment, functionality and livability at a competitive price range seem worth valuing for these vehicles. A great side by side comparison of so many options in this vid!

If I lived in Colorado and was using a pickup regularly like these guys do, I personally would choose one of the others. But otherwise, yes, for what it is as you mention (super comfortable including in the back seat, really nice ride, quiet cabin, non-turbo v-6 with plenty of power, etc) nothing really compares to it functionally for someone who isn’t using it for heavy towing and off roading, ie -most people. Why they can’t improve the styling I’ll never understand, though they did make some improvements to the front end in 2020 or so.
@richshan529
@richshan529 10 ай бұрын
I agree with everything that you pointed out. Unless you're in the mountains where you might really need a true 4x4 or if you tow regularly, the Ridgeline is a fantastic choice when it comes to comfort in the cabin, road tripping with family and luggage or taking 4 adults out on a drive for more than 30 / 45 minutes. If you want a midsized truck and you'll need the true 4x4, towing and 90+% of the time, only 2 occupants, look at everything else in this comparison.

My previous truck was an extended cab 2WD, and my current truck is an extended cab 2WD. But every time the guys at TFL see a 2WD, they say "it's only 2WD" and treat it like it's useless. If it's not a 4x4 with forced induction, then it's a horrible truck for driving in Colorado, and the TFL guys think nobody would want it. I bought a 2016 Canyon because I wanted an extended cab long box truck that isn't available anymore. I drive in the snow in Canada, and it works great. Sure, I carry a shovel and tire chains in the winter, but even 4x4s get stuck sometimes.

The exhaust comparison was surprising aside from the obvious winner. It's 100% clear that resonators were part of Nissan's cost cutting on the Frontier and the VQ marching band is out in full effect there. The Colorado was surprisingly good sounding for a turbo 4 banger. The Ridgeline was smooth and quiet. The Tacoma sounds like an appliance and the Ranger sounds like a ricer boi already stuck a fart can on it. Ranger and Frontier were definitely the worst sounding.

@@canyonero2050it can't support far beyond its payload rating (in the bed) well, like body on frame trucks can, and it's ground clearance is across the bottom of the unit body instead of just at the bottom of the diffs on body on frame trucks. It's articulation is much more limited, too. Can confirm ground clearance and articulation come into play in dry fields, snow, and other normal not hardvore off road conditions. Even a 2wd body on frame truck with 8.2" ground clearance is more capable than the Ridgeline in crossing some basic obstacles in some so called off road conditions that are anything but extreme.

Based on purchasing power, trucks cost almost the same today as they did in 2005. A 2005 super duty king ranch was 60k back then, it’s now 100k. In 2005, 60k had the same buying power as 97k does today, and you get a much more capable, efficient, feature-rich and safer truck for your money.

Put a Ridgeline in a video and you can bet on the trolls coming out to talk crap about it. Love all these trucks and want all these trucks, but I LOVE my 23 rtle. I don't care that it's not as rough and tough (on paper) as these other options, but as a guy who does pretty average truck stuff like hauling mulch for our garden, filling it with camping supplies, and helping friends move slightly larger than average stuff, I can say it is far more truck than most people will likely ever need.

Not sure anyone is trolling when it comes to the Ridgeline. The thing is a unibody, not a body on frame, and although it has a couple positive notes, it's not really a body on frame truck so pointing that out isn't a troll, it's just a fact. Go back to the suburbs with your lil Ridgeline and your Home Depot John Deere model lawn mower (aka, not an actual John Deere lawn tractor, look it up). Fords 2.7 uses dual port injection and does not have carbon build up. It also used the same graphite composite block as the diesel motors. The power difference between the 2.7 and 3.0 is negligible. I would take the 2.7L because of the proven track record and durability.

The Trailsport shown here is the third highest trim level, so the $47K price reflects its off-road feature set. The Sport starts at $41K and RTL at $44K for cheaper entry cost to the Ridgeline. I have an RTL and it has everything you NEED in this truck. The Trailsport is fine if you drive on gravel or mud often, and the Black Edition is mostly an excuse to charge customers $50K for the same basic truck.

@@jg8464 I picked mine up with 9mi on the odo. With the first tank (of whatever cheap shit gas the deal put in) it was originally showing maybe 13-15mpg on the dash. I didn't bother to calculate that tank because I thought it was pointless since the engine was new, and who knows how full the tank was and with what. So, the first full tank of 92octane I put in it got me 17.6 calculated mpg (the dash showed about 18.1), and the dash it showing 19.1mpg on this new tank of 92 so far in mixed driving but no offroad. I have about 650mi on it now. I DO run it 75-85 on the hwy, and it's obviously as aerodynamic (LOL) as a brick as it gets BETTER mileage in town. THAT'S a new one in my experience. I like to have my tires near max pressure for better handling and mileage, so I'm running 43psi (OEM is 36psi per the doorjamb sticker with the tires showing a max load at 50psi, so I'm splitting the difference. Also, I'm at 5,300ft altitude, so that might help as well. One thing that is unusual, and perhaps concerning, is it seems to run the oil temp hot. Even on a cool night (47deg F) at highway speed with plenty of airflow the oil temp was reading about the 2 o'clock position. Not near the red, but definitely farther than the 12 o'clock position than I thought it should be. When I bring it in tomorrow to check on the "check engine" light, I'm going to ask about that. Seems hot with no load on a cool night. what's it going to be in the hot summer towing something? Is an aftermarket oil cooler going to be needed? Best of luck with yours!

The problem with the Ridgeline is that Honda doesn't give it the support it needs to really sell in higher volumes. It has been nearly 8 years since a full redesign and even with two refreshes, it is still two generations behind most Honda models in regards to technology and a generation behind in it's drivetrain. Despite all this, the Ridgeline has sold nearly 50k this past year while having any future past this generation very much in question.

You mention it in other videos, but you left out that only the Ridgeline and Ranger can fit a standard width pallet or 4x8 sheet flat in the bed. The rest need to be propped up above the wheel wells, which isn't ideal for flimsy sheetrock. This alone makes them the most useful of the stubby beds. Their real world payload capacity being tops doesn't hurt either. Andre does seem to have a hobby horse on the 400W outlet thing. Only one of these trucks will have, (that is it's not available yet,) a hybrid option that enables them to have the option package for the higher wattage outlets. The hybrid option is only going to be available on middle trims and up. Only a few of these trucks even have a 110 plug option at all, so bringing up that it isn't 2kW seems a niche concern. Also, as a service advisor, death to all engine covers! They just get in the way and get brittle and crack when older. Good job Ford and Toyota!
