Archimedes principle - the buoyancy force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Unless you are changing the physical shape of the boat in a way that makes it displace more water, it won't change the buoyancy. Expanding foam inside the fins doesn't help! Expanding foam outside - which you might have seen - helps because it displaces loads of water while adding almost no weight. Looks absolutely wicked though 👌
@morrisonmeister2 жыл бұрын
I wondering if the foam had to be in physical contact with the water to work as buoyancy.
@CL-vz6ch2 жыл бұрын
that hull will displace a fair bit I reckon
@WARYZ2 жыл бұрын
You are completely right. They use foam to fill spaces and give them more structural integrity without adding much weight. But they use it in combination with fiberglass hulls. Filling a metal container that does not need the extra strength is just adding weight and not changing buoyancy at all.

Upgrades. 1. V hull for stability or 2. Skip o ran, yes two skip hulls. 3. Power , 2 jet ski motors, one in each skip. Love the ideal
@JCJC6502 жыл бұрын
Love it looks really good, easy getting into the water with the lorry :) Put some balast in the middle fin to lower your centre of mass, then two empty watertight boxes or cyliners running down either side (or outriggers) with them half in / half out the waterline. when you tip one way you'll become more bouyant on that side and the weight will pull you upright, 1m3 of displaced water is a tonne. Maybe a bilge pump for a longer journey :) Boats are shaped so as they get deeper they displace exponentially more water. All the weight is at the bottom in lead weights.
@dylanshenton60012 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree on the ballast and a bilge pump. Top build all together! Edit: All electrics and pumps etc can easy go under the benches, will still look like a skip @39:46 yesss
@TheByard2 жыл бұрын
While working in Cairo on an Aid Project the rugby held an oil drum raft race on the River Nile, the construction company Lilly made a raft that rode deep in the water, many laughed at it thinking it would be hard to paddle, but a civil engineer with marine knowledge had designed the drums with open tops. The crew sat inside making the raft settle low in the water, they were also told the stay close inshore this caught the best of the strong Nile current and the craft wizzed along with the crew doing more steering than actual paddling. So what the skip needs is higher sides and more crew.

@nbganning12 жыл бұрын
The bottom of the boat needs stabilizer, the triangle shape column part you put underneath the flat bottom is downwards, it should actually be upwards which make the ship stable, think about the shape of a torpedo. Also you need to find the weight center of the boat, when it is lifted, it will help you determine how much weight you need in the front side to balance off the weight of your body.

@edwilkinson4972 жыл бұрын
Add buoyancy aft, by increasing your “wetted area” behind the motor. Think of it as any part of the skip that’s vertical when it touches the water adds no buoyancy, and any horizontal adds maximum buoyancy.

I agree, and outriggers would be a good improvement as well.

Daniel, in the 1980s and early 90s we had powerboat Grnd Prix and I remember a motorised skip being driven around the docks, it was a riot and quite unstable. We could actually have fun BACK then and we did, usually the people who rode in the skip were a bit merry on the "tot" of rum they were given for courage on boarding the craft.

Looks pretty cool. Think you need to raise the front as waves will crash over it in the channel. For stability maybe get some oil drums filled with foam and fix them to each side which will help buoyancy too. A little tarp roof would be cool too.

It's about time we had a UK channel building great projects like this, it would certainly help the subscriber levels. Dan, if I might make one or two suggestions being a 'Scrap Designer' myself. 1. It might be an idea to paint both the insides and outsides in bitumen or something similar to assure total waterproofing. 2. Weld on some side rails at around water level and bolt on some pontoons. This should give level buoyancy for the 'Skoat'. 3. As well as the side pontoons, you could build a lowering keel in the middle of the 'Skoat', this would stop it from rocking side to side. You would of course need to raise the housing for it above water level, to stop it sinking, lol!! Just a couple of ideas, hope it helps......
