@@Exiide89 No you don't get it. A musical genre comes from a culture, essentially a sound or the ways a genre is played or arranged is created collectively by a culture where the influence of their geography, their history are prevalent. So to create a very unique composition without influence of anywhere else would be really challenging, especially in case of movie songs, where the creator is always under pressure from producer and director etc..if you look at that way, you can surely appreciate the talent. Indian classical, folk, and other traditions like gazal etc are already ocean of music, creating something outside of that is to go out and mix and match various vocabularies as Efra said....otherwise how one individual can compete with a culture? Also, he was not creating the music just for his own sake, or for the sake of creation, there were commercial aspects...do you support independent artists doing their own work just for the sake of creation? Even then those independent artists are not totally out of existing influences...

RD Burman (composer) indian music industry legend, was the one who composed songs inspired from every genre of music across the world. He was heavily inspired by Jazz and Spanish genre , you will find many of his songs with the touch of Spanish flavour. He used Conga and Bongo in almost all of his songs in Rythm section, he was the one who introduced flamenco to Indian music industry.

This song was from the 1973 movie Yaadon Ki Baaraat and yes, the glasses clinking was a part of the original song. Asha Bhosle is the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar. They are 4 sisters and a brother. All the sisters sing playback music and the brother is a music composer. The Hindi movies of the 60s and 70s were influenced a lot by western music and European music. Even some Elvis Presley songs. 🙂

Asha Bhosle is the OG pop singer/party singer back in the day...her songs were made for partying and had such a groove to them....Lata Mangeshkar's songs were very classically influenced and very emotional and deep songs while Asha Ji's most famous songs were dance songs..in the old bollywood movies whenever there was a song about actors inner turmoil, it was Lataji's voice in the songs and whenever there was a dance number, it was Ashaji's voice in those songs

The two Mangeshkar sisters honestly deserve their own feature friday lol. Tho any feature friday on the 50s-70s will pretty much be all their songs lol. The two most recorded singers in world history. They are the bedrock of both indian music and indian cinema. Indian cinema would literally not exist in the same way without them. Imagine,.. for so many decades, you could pretty much not have a hit film unless either Lata or Asha were recording the vocals. The actors used to even demand it be written in their contracts that only Lata or Asha could sing for them.

1970s and 80s were ruled by RD Burman, Kishore Kumar and Asha/Lata. That was the golden period of Indian music industry . Biggest hits of this century were recorded in this time period and Indian music infused the world music in it which helped to shape up todays music style/genre. If pancham (RD Burman ) wouldn’t happen you would not see what Indian music is today.

Did you know that flamenco which is associated with the gypsies or the Roma people has an Indian connection? The gypsies are originally from India and have traveled all over the world. They congregate in India every decade or so to celebrate their origins. The musical traditions that the gypsies inherited from their Indian origins are the influences you see in their present day music and dance.

I have been enjoying your show. Yo soy de la India. For many in India, the late Lata Mangeshkar is an incarnation of a Goddess. Asha Bhosle, who is still active, is the younger sister of Lata and was seen as the rebel in terms of India's family traditions. She is loved by all. She got out of a bad marriage, raised a family and remarried. She was married to RD Burman the music director of the composition you viewed here. The initial sound created by the clanking of champagne glasses was picturized on Zeenat Aman (in a Western attire). For many in India of a certain age group, that initial sound is a SIGNATURE sound that they will never forget. It is like the initial guitar notes of "Hotel California." In all her appearances she is youthful, creative, optimistic and forward-thinking.
