My daughters went there for vacation and much like this video ... You couldnt walk a block without seeing a stray homeless dog. im dominican and yes unfortunately in the caribbean in general nobody cares about dogs or cats...its horrible, im ashamed and the country of my birth needs to evolve. they also round up dogs and poison them! when i went to visit my dad there, i used to feed some dogs, and when i came back they poisoned those poor souls! i guess they were waiting for me to leave? its really shameful......

World Animal Awareness Society That is very true. I live in Puerto Rico and it is bad in the streets. I have volunteered in sanctuaries to help and I am part of a non-profit college organization that helps save animals and foster/find them homes. In my area there are over 60 stray cats. I feed as much as I can and I also rescue the ones in worse condition. Right now I have 7 cats, 4 which are mine (all adopted and rescued) and 3 that I rescued from the streets. I have rescued others before and thankfully they have found homes. It is very heartbreaking especially for people like myself who loves and adores animals in general. I wish something bigger could be done to help these poor souls.

I went to visit a different country (thailand) and I was in shock because I had never seen so many dogs roaming the streets, most of them with mange. We went into the city dumps to feed the people who lived there, and I cried because I couldn't believe that there were people living in trash, and THEN I saw the cutest puppies just roaming and wanting to play. My heart broke into a million pieces because I couldn't do anything to help. Literally every street we turned on, whether it was in the city or somewhere rural, there was at least 10-15 dogs. My heart still hurts.

I've worked in the DR, and those dogs look perfectly happy, just chillin out. Some people in the states assume that all countries have the same uptight regs that the US has. Those dogs weren't sick or skin and bones. They are living free and natural, and most of them have homes. And the local people are kind to them and feed them. Just because they are not living indoors with A.C. doesn't mean that they are suffering and miserable.

I live in the Dominican Republic and I know that every day this dogs suffer and I have no words mm they eat trash every day . That's unbelievable once there was a dog in my house poor so I told my dad come on dad take this dog so dad said yes now he lives happy he even Lerner how to smile. I went to republic for winter break and I saw a lot of stray dogs and cats but they let the dogs on the streets so a lot of the males reproduce with females and those puppies when they grow up that are left without homes and that circle of things keep going around and around it's really sad when I was staying in my grandpa's house we were walking and saw 4pups and the mom the pups were super young I was really sad they were in the streets so me and my agreed that when they got older he would adopt 1or 2 and I was really happy about that.

It breaks my heart to see all the unwanted, unloved and homeless dogs, some starving, extremly ill, injured or just victims of peoples indifference.....The numbered collars, mostly pink shows that they are vaccinated for rabies, therefor no longer a threat to peoples health...but still. Not all the way through. But do they have an ongoing clinic? Wish the vets in Canada & USA could also do same on reservations, & areas with high poverty rates. But they can't work all the time for free, and governments seem to have more "important" uses for tax dollars. In Canada- too many tax funded "cultural" events take a lot of money to fund...they also voted down modernizing abuse laws earlier this year. Seems animals aren't a glamourous enough "cause" for our narcissistic PM & his band of puppets.

What the heck are you people cryin' for...those are all healthy looking dogs. Those dogs are hangin' outside in the streets, socialising with other dogs. That's how it is in other countries, they don't keep them inside the house, they don't walk their dogs. They just let them go outside freely and it's normal. Much like the jobless people there...they're just hangin' around. When those dogs gets hungry or during night time...they have home to return to. They even have veterinary service going around. It just not the same here in the US, but those dogs doesn't look miserable. Here in the Us, if you see a dog outside...it's most likely stray/abandoned.

We work with animal rescue and welfare non profits to help them do their work. This video was of a scientific survey of the stray dogs we did of the neighborhood streets. The data is collected and GPS was used to tell us where that animal was located. This data is used to help fix the whole situation. Further, you will never ever see WA2S team members handle any animal - it is against our non profit charter. We are a media non profit and we rely on the professionals to do this work - and they rely on us to help them communicate their narrative. You wouldn't want a janitor to do brain surgery - you definitely don't want WA2S rescuing animals - we leave that to the professions. Because this initiative is a scientific undertaking, it must be conducted a specific way - and feeding and or watering the dogs is not part of the protocol. More info here: www.WA2S.org

I always have mixed feelings about rescues such as this. I don't see all of them suffering, some look healthy and just chilling. If you take them out of the streets, you're putting them in cages. They will have medical care, sure, but not the freedom they were used to. If you only took the ones that needed medical care, then that would be indisputably helpful, but seeing as most of the people there are poor, dirty and borderline homeless too, some of the dogs look absolutely fine.
