The River Lark! I know that river. It ran past the estate where we lived in Barton Mills. We didn't play on the banks or swim in it. The banks were built up to keep the river from flooding the surrounding area. I wish I had known about the history of the river and its connection to Bury St. Edmonds while I lived there. As an American, an Air Force dependent, I didn't get to live there and soak in the history and culture for as long as I would have liked. Thanks for taking us on this lovely East Anglian trip!

Spent about 4 years on the Gt Ouse. We moored at the Ship Inn at Brandon Creek and then at the same place as you overnighted on the Lark. Enjoyed our time there but came back to the canals as we got bored with the high banks and general lack of facilities. It is a nice contrast to the busy canals though and does have a certain charm.. Interestingly, when we got our first boat we moored at Fox's in March so you are tracking our boating life :-)

Hi Mark and Debbie. Lovely to see you on the stretch of waterways ( Great River Ouse and it's many offshoots) and area that I am most familiar with. FYI the S in Isleham is hard - so pronounced 'eyes-lum' if that makes sense. The Lark, Little Ouse and Wissey are fun to check out but as you found out the place to turn round is paramount! You are both looking well and happy to be cruising again. I look forward to your ongoing adventures! Take care.

Hi guys, another lovely vlog, thank you. Good to see Deb's hair blowing in the wind again and looking so well. You know each NB vlogger has a unique style I love yours among many others but I missed the "Right nice Pint" bit .Here in Canada Craft mini breweries have exploded in the last few years, not literally, but we now have 3 in our town of 18k and access to many others from a hundred mile radius in our Pubs and Eateries. Even though I was brought up on British beer I find most are quite different but excellent. My "Right mice beer" in U was Flowers bitter and a Devon local Simonds Brown ale. Happy safe cruising Cheers to you both Mark and Debbie . Love life, greetings from Canada.

Thanks for a lovely update and it's great to see that you are both doing well, and the pups of course. As a Broads holiday cruiser myself I've found that most newer cruisers have GPS speedos on the dash these days as you will have found that engine revs won't give you any idea of your actual speed travelling on a river with current and even less of a clue on a tidal river. If you haven't a fitted GPS on your boat there are lots of aps for your phone that will do the job as you have found. Tea, Mark, what about a Rite Nice Pynte mate? Take care and all the best. Stevie

Almost every gps app can measure speed within 1/100 mile per hour or better. The accuracy of feet to the pin as so to speak is the selling point most use. The telemetry bit is highly accurate and the same for everyone. Those are the fixed points used in navigation software to display your chosen route. You can even see the incline or decline of the waterway you're on. It obviously seems flat, but can show at little as thousandths of a degree in slope showing flow direction. Elevation can also be used to show rise and fall of locks. (Fun video additive) We use GPS a lot in the forest here. The Rogue Siskiyou Nation Forest is about the size of Scotland but densely wooded reaching elevations of 2000 meters. Fun times...... Glad you're back out cruising.
