So great to see you all back on the water for a nice little "relaxing" sail! lol😉Wow, you really had to overcome a lot of struggles in this one. Made me realize how much I miss your sailing content, but I'm sure you'll be back at it in no time. Great video and hugs to the pups!

Get two buckets, put some weight in each and hang them over the sides midships and lower them a meter or so below the water. They will act as dampers and stop some of the rolling! Cheers Peter.

I've heard of people setting the boom out at 90° and tying it. Then, use a halyard to the dinghy lifting eyes off the end of the boom and winch down a little to stabilise the boat.

Cereal boxes. The cardboard used in cereal boxes an other food boxes, are great to make those gaskets out of. Open the box up, set it on the part an tap it with a hammer. The shape of the part will mark the cardboard so you can cut it out. Rub some rubber gasket stuff on it if you have it, but it works fine without it.

The irony that Brett said "i.e. us" when quoting the sign about the rich visiting and Jade laughs, then not being able to buy many groceries in the store. I also like it when you show repairing your boat in glamorous places like the French Riviera, as we all know, boats are a hole in the water that you throw money and time into. Glad to see you sailing again, though I am also anxious to see the new top completed.
@brian26x2 ай бұрын
You just need to tighten the leech cords on your sails until the leech stops luffing. For the rolling while at anchor, tie a line to your anchor rhode about 1 1/2 boat lengths from your bow, then wrap the line around a stern cleat and tighten until the bow is pointed into the waves

Since you've already come such a long way and are so captivated by the Mediterranean, you absolutely should sail to the Croatian coast. With so many islands and anchorages to explore, it's an experience you simply can't afford to miss. I believe you would love it so much, you might not want to leave. You are great. I wish you a good wind at your back.

I spent 3 years sailing and living aboard in the med. Do yourself a favor and invest in a Fortress anchor to use as a stern anchor, they are super light and easy to set and take out in the dinghy. I use mine on a short chain and then rope rode, can even take it out on SUP. Also in the med it is worth adding a fender to indicate that you have it out, as I am sure you are finding, many boats will try anchor on top of you.

Hi Brett and Jade, gotta say ‘Hi’ and add that I JUST discovered your channel and am addicted, and live vicariously through you and your expeditions. I’m certainly not as courageous as either of you; not much of a sailor or flyer, but get around on the occasional winter and spring break. Will probably catch up to 2024 in a few more weeks, but want to share my enthusiasm for you and send my best wishes from MSP. Cheers!!!

You said in the beginning that "there are a lot of very nice boats around". I think your boat is very nice and I am a fisherman and power boater who does not sail. Usually if I encounter a sailboat I get yelled at for not giving way. Now I have a new appreciation for this sailing stuff. As long as I can troll that beats burning 80 gallons of fuel a trip! Thanks for sharing!

As a former long-time cruiser and a retired video producer, I just have to say, you guys are my favorite channel on KZbin. Your editing and content is superb. When I watch content and never think about sound, edits, lighting, or shadows, you have succeeded in producing a quality product above and beyond the top 99% of content. Not only are you the best sailing channel, but just the best channel, period finished, the end. Parlay Revival is a close second sailing wise. You bring me right back emotionally to long passages, deserted islands, and exotic travels. You made me miss the beautiful mindset of sailing. One day, I hope to sail again, but a million thanks, and may the breeze always be on your beam. Sincerely Steven D Naar

Great video, thanks. And Jade for the great explanation (i know not proven medically) about the allergy and the poisons we probably get in our food. For the windlass tripping, i would check all your electrical connections are clean. Also, it usually helps to have the engine running at about 1500 rpm when hauling up. Can you use a winch handle in the top of the capstan on deck to recover by hand?

Brett, you could build a flopper Stopper, or 2, one either side of the boat in the extremes but then you need a pole for either side of the boat. So Brett you need spinnaker poles or adjustable wisker poles. The secret is to have the FS out from the boat, I am guessing about the length of the standard length spinnaker pole for your boat EVA. BTW wisker poles are usually adjustable in length and held in place with various guy sheets for the purpose of trimming your sheet ropes for deep sailing angles, either Genoa, or Spinnakers.

The few times I was aboard ships, I made sure I had the highest berth in our compartment. That ensured the most rocking, which I loved! While other guys were getting seasick (which is really awful, but as Marines, we still had to give them grief), I would munch a couple of packs of saltines, listen to tapes on a Walkman I won in a poker game (Walkman cassette player, yes, I’m that old), and just let the Sea of Japan rock me to sleep. Good times. 😎

Just a thought, but for a stern anchor you might consider a danforth, lots of holding for the weight (the one you’ve got looks like a backup for your main anchor.)

Ehm tip: Fruits are typically priced per kilogram (about 2 pounds in freedom units) in France. So the 13 Euros are not per mango but for a couple mangos - somewhere between 4 to 8 mangos depending on their weight. The Côte d'Azur is expensive but .... still.

I caught that you said the bottom was pretty good but the prop was bad (with fouling). Have you heard of painting your propellor with egg white? It really works. I’m told it’s more effective in Europe with cooler sea temps than in the Caribbean but it’s ok in the Caribbean too. Our boat is in Greece and its prop gets several coats of egg white every Spring.

After you set the stern anchor, it looked like you used the windlass to pull the boat forward. I was taught to use the engine to move forward to avoid overtaxing the anchor windlass. I wonder if you're in the habit of using the windlass to move forward without help from the engine.

So they will wear very quickly. You may want to buy a new one like Sailing Parley Revival did. Or just rebuild like Sailing Uma. Or just get a whole new boat like Gone with the Wynns and Ruby Rose 2 or Sailing Doodles. Or just borrow a brand new keeler like Kristina's Travels did.
