We started with a T25 then moved up 5.5m Trigano Tribute. Having space and standing height was great, but having a bathroom was even better. We then moved up to 6.3m with an even better bathroom, but this time the fixed bed and garage underneath has changed everything for us

Nice one! I was in the Costa Brava region in my T4 last month. That road along the coast north of Tossa de Mar is amazing. I never even gave a thought about vans being broken into but was staying on campsites and mainly parked in car parks with attendants during the day. Also headed off into the Pyrenees after there and went up to Andorra which was epic! Don't get rid of Fergus, everyone else has crafters, sprinters etc, your van stands out. 🤙

@@ShaneandAneVanLife Sounds like a good plan. The drive through Andorra is really impressive, it just keeps going up and up. I was heading back to France at the time so didn't get to stay overnight unfortunately. If you do go that way, get there on an empty tank, the diesel is mega cheap.

You should put a high top on that bay window you have 1776cc with webbers and electronic ignition, a huge power alternator and solar panels to charge big lithium battery's and a 12v roof mounted ac unit. Also do an electric power steering conversion. Lowered a bit, with a freeway flyer transmission for high cruising speeds. Merc Sprinter... a little bit of sick came up in to my mouth

Spend the same money on an engine swap and high top and it's money in the bank, just look at Splitscreen and baywindow prices.

I was thinking about an TDI swap with decent 5 speed gearbox and probably the Westfalia pop-top . That way you’re keeping the same fuel. Peralada and Peratallada well worth a visit and very safe. The museum at Peralada is well worth a visit. I'm not into museums but you have to be impressed by the biggest private library in Europe (I think) and the birthplace of Hispano Suiza (I know). We love the out of the way places.

Our daughter has a medium wheelbase, high top Crafter which she and our son in law converted themselves. It has a permanent bed across the back, hot and cold water, a heater and you can stand up in it. Luxury. Glad you managed to avoid getting broken into and that Feargus is behaving himself now that he's back on familiar territory 😊

We then used gorilla tape to seal the edges and added in magnetic strips so it sticks to the window... saves paying a fortune for them 🤣

Fergus is a star, no doubt about it, but like myself he’s getting on a bit, and less reliable. An engine swap is needed soon. A video on this would be interesting. A bigger new van, especially including a van build video would be nice. Realistically, trying to challenge Fergus with the alps and the Balkan mountains would not be a great idea in these circumstances. Best of luck whatever you chose to do.

It’s such a stunning place! Break ins are increasing everywhere, as people know what are in the vans and they’re easy targets. Even removing your valuables doesn’t stop break ins, you just don’t lose your drone / camera / laptop though you still need your van repaired. I think when Ane accidentally mentioned ice cream she was letting you know what she really wanted! Todd’s de Mar has a big camp site near the bus station, which is free off season and a 5 minute walk from the old town. It’s quite lovely. New van? Apart from Fergus and Veronica? Got to be a Sprinter or Crafter. A T5 would be a backward step as you will find it cramped. Because the engine is in the front you will have very little floor space when the bed is down - our T4 had just 40 cms from the bed to the front seats! By comparison we have about 1.2 metres! Half expected you to get Anes hair instructions wrong and come back with short on top and long on the sides = mullet!
