The thing with the finger key for Mr.3 was he does NOT know what the key looks like BUT he uses his power to mould his finger to the shape of the grooves and cuts and the pins in the keyhole so he can just adjust his finger shape whilst it is inside the keyhole

Up to this point we saw luffy as just the typical mc with plot armor and can't really loose, so seeing the goshdarn mc get poked like that and don't see him for like 10+ episodes was worrying!!! Like this is the scene that basically said that luffy don't have use power of friendship, and that oda ain't afraid to give these shocking scenes where the mc just loses and will die almost immediately 💀

18:07 - Crocodile was saying "you will never BEAT me" but Luffy punched him in the mouth and cut him off, then goes onto mock him saying "Peat?" , that is why he gets ticked off even more Key point in this fight is that Crocodile thinks the whole thing is a waste of time, thinks there is no way to beat his sand sand fruit powers and thinks Luffy won't last 3 minutes , yet Luffy keeps coming, and making fun of him .. That's why he gets so annoyed.

If you look back at the Arlong fight it never really feels like Luffy is gonna lose. In fact it more seems like if Zoro had been healthy he would have been more than enough to beat Arlong. This is Luffys first opponent it never feels like he had a chance against.

honestly, while that scene at the end is pretty shocking for the viewer, ive always appreciated it a LOT for the georgeous art direction and especially the sound design. the way sudden silence, the viewer thinking "huh? why is it so quiet?" to crocodiles (honestly unfairly sexy😭) voice, to the dripping of the blood and slowly, the sounds of the winds coming back - its genius. i adore that scene!!!! even though its pretty fucked up how luffy is like. basically being skewered...

Smoker was just the introduction to Logia, Ace gave us a glimpse of what it can do and Crocodile is the first to show what it can do in the wrong hands. The way the powersystem is laid out is just another one of Oda's masterfully crafted story telling devices.

The final little monologue by Crocodile in this episode is one of my favorites in the series. "Who do you think I am? There are any number of rookies like you who are all talk here in the Grand Line." It's such an important turn in tone and stakes. From now on, if you don't take a fight seriously, you could die. In the first English dub, the one made by 4Kids, Luffy commented like "Deserto Girasole" looked like a "Desert Toilet" so Crocodile replied that Luffy was "Desert Doodoo" as he was the one in the desert toilet

The manga version of the Bananagator sequence was slightly funnier in my opinion. After Smoker pointed out the one with the key it cut away entirely, and we didn't see what actually happened until the next chapter. Instead we got the part where Crocodile revealed the key was fake, and then the cliff hanger was him coming back to the room to find everybody gone and just Mr 3 and Sanji's note left behind.

Fun fact, if you confuse about why Luffy can't touch crocodile? Because that passive skill from devil fruits type logia, and power from devil fruits is element power, like devil fruit ace's "devil fruit type fire" or devil fruit smoker's "devil fruit type smoke". And devil fruit crocodile is devil fruit type sand.
