I think shooting down the flag is super important here because it's the Strawhats demonstrating to Robin that they're fully committed to going down with her no matter what. If the World Government is her enemy then it's their enemy too. And that's what finally gives Robin the courage to face her true feelings, I think. She did everything she could to drive them away and they still came back, she warned them that they would be fighting the entire world if they stood with her and they said "bring it on". She finally had to accept that they're not going to turn on her, they're not going to abandon her, they're not going to regret being friends with her. They are true friends and she's allowed to ask for help
@UltimateGamerCC2 ай бұрын
correct, she wanted to protect them, but in the end they dont want to be prrotected. they are all well aware of the risk they chose to take when they entered The Grand Line, and Robin from this point has decided that she will follow them to the end of the world, or their mutual death, come what may.

Such a raw and honest portrayal of depression. We often attach ourselves to people because of what we can provide. And for Robin for her entire life her only worth was reading poneglyphs. The terrible things everyone did to her would all be worth enduring because she has that one thing going for her. She will fulfill what Clover and Olvia started. But that one thing came back to bite her when she found friends who didn't want her for her abilities, who didn't care if she was the devil or she could read poneglyphs. Her being on the ship with them was enough. That's true companionship man. And when her ability to read history threatened her only friends, she broke. She lost her self worth and went to the darkest place she could go to. I've been there and all I can say is that that place is worse than death. Robin is such an inspiration to me. Her story, her fight, will to live and to find the light in the darkness changed my life. It helped me find my self worth back and helped me to reach out and seek help. I bawl my eyes out everytime I see this and I believe it heals me everytime. She is my hero.

Sometimes that is missed because he gets back to doing his job right away. 2: Please please please remember the name of the officer that ordered the evac ship to be destroyed. I forgot whose analysis it was (Murphy?), but someone once compared this entire scene to the depression. How she's already given up the will to live and surrendered herself to her demons. The entire cliff is a neverending ditch and hell. Her help/ friends have been with her the whole way, but they can only go so far. They can't reach her on the other side unless she helps herself out. It's ok to ask for help, to take the helping hand. But at the end of the day, change and will to live comes from her. She has to be the one that really seeks the help she's offered.

14:48 I'd just like to point out something super minor but it's that back in the Ohara flashback Kuzan and Sakazuki were actually both vice admirals of equal rank. So Kuzan wasn't really responsible for him per se, but definitely part of the same power abusing organisation.

You've already met the elder stars back in Jaya. I don't think Olivia had any particular reason to stay (beside helping with the books like all of them), it's just that her presence would have endangered Robin. Only three people know Robin can't leave the island until the information spread, but all marines on every battleship already know about Olivia. She risks Robin's life if she saves herself. What I really like about this, is that Sakazuki's actions might have doomed his cause. He was so uncompromising in his justice he was willing to murder an entire boat full of innocent rather than just escort them and screen them one by one based on the flimsiest possible risk. Ao Kiji/Kuzan before the ships blows seems 100% ready to commit to his mission, he doesn't have doubts even in the face of Saul's accusations but the second Sakazuki destroys the civilian ship, he becomes horrified. If Sakazuki hadn't tried so hard to kill them all, he might have actually succeeded in stopping Robin because Kuzan would likely not have let her go but his reckless actions made Kuzan wavers.

To be fair the guy who blew up the evacuation ship Sakazuki (remember that name) did that one his own. They were supposed to let the civilians go thats why even Spandine was shocked, and actually right now they are both only Vice Admirals so they don't really have control over each other.
@ZarathosDaimaoh2 ай бұрын
I think that they weren't supposed to let them leave , such were even the actual orders. It just so happened that most of those vice admirals had enough humanity left to not go after civilians then. Sakazuki only cared about being a good doggie
@digitaladventurer21422 ай бұрын
@@ZarathosDaimaoh Nah the Civilians were supposed to be allowed to leave. Giving them a ship to evacuate on just to blow it up is stupid. If they were supposed to take out everyone just attack them all at once. Plus again even Spandine the guy who was in charge and the one to make the choice to use the Buster Call was shocked they killed the civilians, and that is saying something considering how heartless that guy is.

(I swear none of this is spoilers, I can justify it all) Flashback Time: In that super exposition episode of Jaya/Skypiea where we meet Whitebeard and see the other Warlords, we also get introduced to the Five Elder Stars/Planets (translation options). It's the same 5 guys, even all this time later. We also see the Afro guy with the pet goat, he's the tippy top of the Navy--The Fleet Admiral. Stuff the manga told people but the anime kept out because even when the pacing and animation are on-point they still make weird choices - ADMIRAL EDITION: (Note: When we meet Aokiji before W7, Robin name-drops all 3 admirals: Aokiji, Kizaru, Akainu) Saul calls Aokiji "Kuzan", I believe Ohara is the first moment that really clarifies that the admirals are assigned codenames (more aura, I guess). Translated the codenames are "Blue Pheasant," "Yellow Monkey," & "Red Dog." The animal choices are a mythology reference. When the focus shifts to the man who went rogue and ordered the destruction of the evacuation ship, the manga gives him a title card. It introduces him as "Vice Admiral Sakazuki (later known as *Admiral Akainu*)" For better or for worse, this event created two Admirals. (Vice-Admiral Kuzan had his own Ohara title card)

Luffy saw that she was afraid of the government and she was afraid for her friends. That she was afraid of being abandoned. Shooting that flag - with no hesitation, I might add - told her that they have no intention of abandoning her. She belongs with them. Happy Robin makes me happy. -------------------- This story has changed lives. This story about a goofy rubber pirate has changed so many lives. It's subtle, but that mindset shift is real.

Not only he lifted the whole ship, but he lifted it above water, pulling it out of the surface tension force of the water itself. What that means is he lifted more than "just" the weight of the ship, but more than that. I mean try pulling out a piece of wood floating on the surface, you will feel it get (Lighter) once it actually is no more in contact with the water! And yes, in my humble opinion, Robin's backstory is the saddest of all, tied with another that I cannot speak of yet. Some other that comes later rival hers, but none is sadder than hers if you ask me.

After all the abuse, grief, trauma, and persecution Nico Robin endured her entire life, it's a testament to how strong she is that she didn't give up on life before this point, or snap and become the monster the world accused her of being. But she finally reached her limit and wanted to die; fortunately for her, she met the Straw Hats. Back on Drum Kingdom, Luffy told Wapol that he didn't care what kind of status or title his enemies have: he was still going to beat them up. The inverse applies to his friends; it doesn't matter how lowly you are, how hated you are, how much trouble you might bring, or anything like that. Luffy will be your friend, and if that means declaring war on the entire world, then the whole damn world can just bring it on. And kudos to the rest of the crew as well. Luffy makes his declaration of war, and there's not a single protest, disbelieving look, or even a flinch. All of them have accepted Nico Robin as a member of their crew, and they're ready to fight for her against everyone.

Man, Saul's words to Nico Robin "nobody is born into this world to be alone" has been heavily imprinted in my mind ever since I watched that scene for the first time in my teens (now I am 36 years old). Despite the fact that I had parents and a family overall, I used to feel quite lonely because I didn't really have any friends or at least not very closed ones and I was overall very shy. I was also terrible with girls because I didn't have the courage to approach one and confess my true feelings to a girl. Didn't even feel like I was talented or any good in anything in particular. So you can imagine how powerful and heartbreaking must've been for me to hear that sentence from Saul and to watch that scene in the first place. But not only that, the whole backstory of Nico Robin was very heartbreaking for me to watch in that period of my life. I can honestly say that I saw myself a lot in Nico Robin😢Now fortunately my situation is much more different (for the better that is) than in that period of my life but the scar from my past is still there somewhere and no matter how many times I watch Saul's final moment and Nico Robin's whole backstory/flashback and the whole Nico Robin's "I want to live" scene/sequence, I can't help myself but break into tears😭🥲

I’m so glad to see this, I remember how you felt about Robin and to see the progression ❤. And that discussion at the end hits 😢

There is one thing you'll hear every single time One Piece makes you bawl like a baby: "This is where One Piece gets good." It just keeps on getting better, man. Different, but new highs are reached every single time for sure.
