I still remember the actual moment that I took this message to heart, and really started applying it. I was in my honours year at university, walking along a bridge, being bombarded by all this negativity and hopelessness about myself and my work (along with supporting evidence, of course), and I suddenly realised: 'Hang on..why am I listening to this? It's making me feel terrible, and if anything, wouldn't God be saying things to hype me up and cheer me on?' And then it hit me: No matter how true these thoughts might seem, the fact is, whoever is thinking them actually has no idea about what's really going on with me. The only one who really knows is God, and I know from the Word that he would never say those things about me. So I gathered all those thoughts in my mind, turned to whatever corner they came from, and handed them back, saying very firmly, "You know what? You can keep those. Thanks".

That's the power of our free will and it's like what Curtis said, which is God does the heavy lifting and all we got to do is allow him to work on us. The analogy of the health of the human body and our of human spirit is probably a perfect one. Evil harms the "health" of our spirit and once we refrain from evil and replace that evil with goodness, God steps in and says "I've got this, I will root out of the evil, don't worry anymore and don't look back". I think essentially resisting evil is very simple (that doesn't automatically mean easy), there is no mystery to it because God made it simple for us. He just say's "choose, and I'll do the rest".

I like what you said about how we think when were going to get healthy... it says also in the big book of aa "once we straightened out spiritually, we straightened out physically and mentally". I was in a panic when I was newly sober realizing what I had done to my health, frantically going for jogs and eating leaves to regain my health! The anxiety alone kept me sick! So I instead began to focus on my spiritual life, being kind to others, being a good son and big brother and employee etc. focusing on my resentments and on forgiveness... today I had all the energy I needed to do all the yard work needing doing, and I had pizza for lunch. I feel great!

This video was really helpful in two big ways. 1. I’m not the only one who has had these kind of issues in the past, where it feels like I’m not good enough, or that I’m a bad person. It simply Hell trying to knock me off course, and in partnership with God, I can do away with that inner Hell, and be closer to God than ever in the process. 2. God never gives up on us. We may sometimes think that, I’m guilty of doing that myself. But God is always there to help us in the best of times and in the worst of times, and all we have to do is let him in. I was feeling really lost, depressed, and worse before my father (a preacher) introduced me to Swedenborg, which by extension, introduced me to content such as this. Thank you, you’ve made my day, and more importantly, my life, better.

I'm honored that you would share this with us. And it's healthy to be conscious of those streams of thought, so that you can understand the influences working upon your mind. That narrative of not being good enough-- that comes directly from spirits in hell. However, the Lord's perspective is vastly different. You are everything to Him, you are abundantly loved and have the potential to transform yourself and the world through His love.

Before I got this information I got depressed watching people attack each other. Afterwards it can be confusing and disorienting but it allows you to work with yourself and does take some pressure off because your working with it and not just a passenger. I do expect things in a hurry so patience is key as you wait for things to change outwardly even when internally I have never felt so peaceful. Often when I go to that peace in my mind something or someone tries to interrupt. But as we are eternal I should just knowingly smile and wait. But that could be the fun off it.
@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 5 жыл бұрын
These are really wonderful thoughts, Mark! Patience is really hard-- but knowing the dynamics at play within you can be an aid. I love that these teachings allow us to be conscious of the influences of heaven and hell on our mind, and that they provide a blueprint for more of heaven to shine within. The peace you describe reminds me of that.

This was really good. I have constant inner chatter lately that seems to say there is not enough good things you can do...and this kinda says that on some days it's enough just to want to be doing better,doing good because the details of how it plays out isnt my job. Micromanaging slows it all down and the voices micromanaging is just a distraction.

Your kind and supportive words always mean so much to us, Julian. Regarding your question, someone in the spiritual world, or spiritual dimension, does not occupy physical space anymore. That person is not limited by anything having to do with physical space. Exceptions would be lower-level spirits who were so obsessed with material life that they can get kind of stuck for a while near physical places or things. (See our episode "Do Ghosts Exist?") But, that is not most people. Most people move into spiritual "space" which is not limited by where things are located physically. For instance, people on earth can be spiritually connected to the same spiritual community in the afterlife, even though they live far away from each other on Earth. When they cross over, they will find themselves together, not separated by physical space anymore. Does that answer your question? Did I understand your question correctly?

Thanks Curtis another GREAT video, this used to happen to me ALL the time negative thoughts would INVADE, take over my thoughts with doubts & have me question myself ALMOST about my ability in everything I did, esp when it came to helping other people, thoughts came creeping me that I'm NOT making a difference, I SHOULD just give up, why would I KEEP TRYING to help family, friends & esp strangers when I don't even get appreciated for it & when I'm in need of a shoulder to cry NO ONE is there for there me, this made me very SAD for a couple months, I did start to notice that when I did call family and friends which was & is extremely rare for me to do to ask for a shoulder to cry, I've NEVER asked ANYONE for a favour yet I'll be the 1st friend, family member or stranger to run when ANYONE needs me, I LOVE BEING there & helping whomever out. One day I actually sat back before ever seeing your videos & realised oh WOW this NOT God or me THINKING this way I've been this way my WHOLE life it's NEVER bothered me b4 & NOTHING has changed, I figured it was a DEMON or a dark Angel sent by Satan to steer me off the WRONG track, so I yelled at the top of my voice get out of my head, mind body, life, & home I KNOW what you're doing now, & I'm NOT GOING TO STOP, in fact you've made me more determined to do even MORE, I'm a CHILD of God and ALWAYS will be, I'm certainly not PERFECT but with God's help & his/My Angels they will help me become a better person each day. I can't seem to get enough of this channel and Swedenborg's books. I'm very grateful for your team and happy to be a Patreon member. But I have to say that at this point though I'm starting to get lost. I feel like I'm in the ocean treading water but I don't know which way to swim. There is so much to read and watch, so much to learn that it is starting to overwhelm me. Do you have a recommended path for learning? With the Bible, I can start at Matthew and end with Revelation - it's very straightforward. But because all the different works of Swedenborg interrelate to each other and to the Bible I am unsure of a growth path. I look at video topics that address my immediate concern for the day, but I'd like to be more organized. Thanks again from your friend in Austin.

It's interesting that you bring this up now, because our team was just having meetings about trying to make plans for the future to better organize the information we put out. It's hard for us, too, to think how to choose what to focus on, and how to organize a message, or relate messages to each other. So, for one thing, stay tuned! We're trying to think of new ways. And then, yes, I was going to suggest you browse the Swedenborg Foundation book downloads and articles. This page can get you started: swedenborg.com/emanuel-swedenborg/for-swedenborg-starters/ I'm glad you found that "Guide to the Theological Writings of Emanuel Swedenborg" and I hope that is helpful!

I might have to do it just in my gmail to save so its all organized. I'm not good with techinical stuff. I also like it organized according to subjects like Afterlife, demons and angels, symbolism in the bible, etc just thinking out loud here...

See if this is helpful: go to our channel home page: kzbin.info/door/5kBvit8NAsLO3o-8SNGAOA?view_as=subscriber Scroll down and you will see the "News From Heaven" episodes grouped together. If you click on the words "News From Heaven" you can see them all in a list of newest to oldest. Further down on the home page is a grouping of all the "Short Clips", and you can do the same thing there. Also, if you go back up to the top of the home page and click on the word "Playlists", you will find shows grouped by topic. See if this helps. But we are also working on building our own Off The Left Eye website, outside of KZbin, that we hope can be easier to navigate.

The door we open is our heart, as much as we ought to roll back the stone to open our minds, for in both places does The Lord wait for us to receive Him; to resurrect His Spirit in mind that we may be like Him. It is surely no small coincidence that Golgotha was the place of the skull.

I think it is perhaps no more a profound thought than the universe within which we live is also alive and living in us. Does not the world create itself anew each day that we are renewed by it, but to realise the Resurrection as our re-awakening to Love as First Creation? Surely, the Divine Purpose of Life is that we realise our place in its Divnity.

The inner and and outer compulsions of evil appear in my mind as the results of voluntarily taking on the knowledge of good and evil (The Genesis 3 rebellion). It is a choice with consequences. The consequences have a direct effect on the soul/spirit man. The more we embrace the consequences, the more we make it a desire of our heart. God wants to give us the desires of our hearts... That's a loaded process with many intricacies to numerous to explain or comprehend in this life. In essence, we decided who we want to become and God permits it while presenting us with many ways in which to see how our heart's desires effects us and others. It's simultaneously beautiful and tragic.

I sometimes feel a certain sense of urgency to offer a thought (whatever it is worth) even before a presentation comes to an end. Perhaps it is merely a matter of being "in the moment" and whatever feeling I have, is best voiced as it comes to me (I hope I am not intruding in that way) for fear of forgetting it. And so it is, that just four minutes into this episode, I wonder if the "permission" Curtis speaks of that allows God to do something, is really more a measure of acceptance and understanding which in turn, and as it is with everything, is a question of Love. After all, does not Love require acceptance as does acceptance requires understanding? And, does not understanding require Love, that Love itself returns to Love? Therefore, in returning our state to God, do we return ourselves to Love that we shall know Him as Self as He knows us, and all those fears in Life that are ofttimes born of wilful ignorance and are the opposite Love, are abated and we are lifted out of the darkness towards the Light that is of Him. To grant God "permission" seems to me to carry with it a certain degree of ego that acceptance as a measure of Divine Grace does not. But this is simply a choice of words, none of which hold true over The Word that is Love's Heart, the haven we will know as Heaven. Yet, unless we accept God into our lives as He Who sent His Son as our only Saviour, will nothing He might do for us give to us that which we most need: His grace and understanding in the face of all that ails us. It is that Love never fails us.
@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 5 жыл бұрын
I'm really glad you decided to share these thoughts as they arose! I do indeed see God's permissions as measures designed to keep love in tact and not in violation of the freedom to choose that love for ourselves. What do you think, old friend?
@PhillipLWilcher
@PhillipLWilcher 5 жыл бұрын
The Divine Grace of God which keeps Love in tact that it never becomes tactless is of a measure within self we are all here to remember and realise, that Love cannot be effectual to the fullest in a world that keeps for itself what is meant to be shared. Therefore, it is through the giving of Love as it was first received that Freedom is found; the Freedom that carries with it the responsibility to care for your brethren and without condition, as you would have them care unconditionally for you. It is that God chose Love for us, the sole means of survival that sees our souls survive us. As I perceive it, and choose to believe it, our role in the overall scheme of things, as designed by Him, is to accept it as He intended us to, and not question through fear our faith.

Hello Friends, if we have spiritual form that can survive physical death, what is our spirit body made from? is it another from of matter, or just some type of energy? I have a difficult time understand how your physical body can be transformed into a soul, or spirit form? does Swedenborg explain any of these topics?.
@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 5 жыл бұрын
It's a great question, and I think the answer is really hard to grasp from an earthly point of view, where we see physical matter as being the most "real" thing. Swedenborg says that in the spiritual world, spiritual bodies are made out of spiritual substance, which is different than physical-matter substance, but is even more real! He says that thoughts and feelings actually have spiritual substance, and so thoughts and feelings actually form our spiritual bodies. Spiritual bodies have sensation, much better sensation than physical bodies do. Spiritual bodies can touch spiritual objects and feel them as even more real than our physical bodies touching physical objects. I think maybe we can't imagine spiritual substance until we actually experience it, but I have read some NDE stories in which people report having very real bodies with exquisite sensation. And Swedenborg certainly experienced that and tried to describe it!

Are we always aware of the things that God is working on? Do we have to know them and bring them to him? It seems difficult for me to observe the things that are evil in me simply because I'm so detached from people themselves..... Maybe that's my evil.
@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Robbie! Thanks for the question. We are definitely not always aware of the things that God is working on in us, but we can trust that whatever is going on is under the Lord's care and being used to forward our spiritual growth. That said, our engagement is important. Swedenborg writes that it is enough for us to practice self-examination occasionally and from that examination, pick one thing to work on. The Lord then guides the process and does the inner work of freeing us from evil. An episode we did that explores this dynamic of our part is The Day-to-Day Process of Our Salvation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZy3paaoe8d_itU. The important thing is for us to reflect on our intentions, no matter what our outer circumstances are, then examine those intentions to see if they are in line with our understanding of the Lord's love and wisdom. We may become aware of an evil/harmful/unloving intention in ourselves and what's important for us to do in that situation is live with the resolve not to let that intention determine our actions; we can pray for the Lord's help in strengthening our resolve, then the Lord is the one who ultimately frees us from that intention over time. So our domain is awareness of our intentions and the choice whether to act on them or not. I hope this information helps!

If God is all knowing concerning us and our eventual success at obtaining happiness, why would God allow a person, such as satan, to have the oppertunity to send themselves to eternal misery? Would the perfect love of God cause him to forbid that person from hurting themselves and others? We, out of love, forbid children from going places where they would probably hurt themselves. Should not satan and others like him be created as say inteligent animals that are not subject to Divine judgment for the good or evil of their desires and actions? It seems that God is creating evil by letting those that choose badly run about among us and thus cause more evil and misery.

Hey Paul! Great questions. First, our upcoming Swedenborg & Life show on July 15th is about what hell is really like (and is titled, "What is Hell Really Like?"), so that will give you some in depth info if you get a chance to watch it sometime. Also our episode The Good Thing About Hell could be a good resource too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6GmiIKmnrmJmtU. God's knowledge of us is not static--in other words, God's divine love is a constant force drawing us toward heaven. In the case of people who have chosen through their own free will to reject God and even oppose the love that God is, then God's draw is still active but cannot override our freedom. In that case, it becomes a kind of care that allows the person to live in what they love within certain limitations. Another episode that could give you some more food for thought on this subject is What God Can't Do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f527e3-FoLScZ6M. In it we explore the nature of free will and how the Lord handles evil. I hope these thoughts are helpful and I'd love to hear any further thoughts you have!

@@offTheLeftEye The foreknowledge of God must be in play here. It seems God would not knowingly create an entity that God knows will do great harm to self and others. I think the answer must be that good and bad concious entities already existed being coexistent with God. Thus, God did not create those concious intelligence beings but only gave self existent beings greater contact with the universe by creating bodies with the equipment to have more full life. Hence, we see life bodies of spirit substance for a light spiritual environment and heavier matter bodies on this heavy matter earth. Who knows what other types of bodies are available to experience the universe? I speculate that as God cannot compromise the free agency of persons he did not create. There may be an eternal law that God must treat all the same in respect to giving all self existent intelligent beings more life in relation to the spectrum of intelligence and awareness that each innately have. So God must give, at least at the beginning, those with an inherent love of evil a chance at greater life via bodies the same as those that inherently love good. I guess evil always existed in a wide spectum among those beings intelligent enough to detect good and bad, love and hate on a high level. Thus God did not create evil but deals with the everlasting presence of it in as helpful a way as is good and right.

@@paulsimmons9512 Interesting perspective, and I respect that you decide for yourself what makes the most sense to you. I would offer, though, the concept that God cannot compromise the freewill of those that he *did* create, because a relationship that has not been freely chosen, or a way of life that has not been freely chosen, is not a human life. It would be robotic, pre-programmed, which is not what human life was created to be. If you are ever interested, check out "Why Bad Things Happen," which includes a section about the crucial importance of freewill. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXeWeKKhpZlnh9E But mostly, I am glad that you feel free to think all these issues over for yourself, and I thank you for the good discussion!

From my experience, "evil" entities feed on negative emotions. Giving you a bad day in what they do for energy--food. Making you sick energizes them. My case in particular, I bought a new, expensive computer. I have to press multiple keystrokes to get it to do anything right. When I'm watching a video, the volume will go off and goes up and down in taunting manner or the picture gets distorted. I've had multiple phones and computers destroyed in the last 10 years. My business online accounts are a mess. I could tell you stories out of Amityville Horror, but that would take a book, and it's not just electronical equipment, which has no relation to a hacker. They can't do the things I've witnessed. A harassing spirit doesn't only plagued the "wicked." My life is not much different than an average churchgoer, and they aren't witnessing the things that I have. I'm not depressed or delusional and I'm not complaining. I just want to set the record straight when people try to explain things by the over-simplified LOA principle or "you must eliminate all the sin out of your life to have a happy one." Stuff happens because it does, folk. Fathers drown with their babies, holocausts and slavery goes on. The physical plane in many ways is hell and we're here to learn lessons. The spirit world must get monotonous sometimes for souls to choose to come to earth is all I can say. My only advice is to recognize these entities and don't fall for the tricks or allow them to upset you. Peace and light.

David, thank you so much for sharing some of your experiences. Yes, absolutely, negative/evil spirits plague us all. And yes, they absolutely do feed off of our negative emotions! We discussed that in our episode "Ghosts, Haunted Gardens, and Edible Fear" kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6CXqpqviLmZj68 and it has come up in other episodes, too. I do find it helpful to stop and remember that, when everything seems to be going wrong, or when I keep being "poked" in my mind to get upset at things that I really don't need to get upset about. Just negative entities, trying to get some food! So, sometimes they get it out of me, and sometimes I manage to not feed them, and then they will have to go looking for food elsewhere. But they are not going to give up easily! Wishing you peace and light too, David!

Opening = Heaven Outer Evil = How YOU, Yes you have created a world with and its your Evil. inner work = Your psyche, which will unleash all that you see on the outer world ,so be careful. Locked door = Key to subconscious mind. You are the only one that has to do the 12 steps and surrendering to suffering then god can help with the dark night of the soul= that's why the lord cant intervene until you surrender. you aren't doing the work that the lord has asked you to do ? You are just highlighting stuff talking nonsense, whilst undoing all the good work that Swedenborg has done throughout his amazing life. oh and god s not the person to go and see for your lazy attitude , " I cant be bothered finding out about how to get closer to god by the 12 steps of spiritual awakening, Im not prepared to put in the hard work,so I will just say god made me like this"
