Hey, thanks for the reaction. Encanto is Disney’s 60th animated film. The 8 songs for the movie were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame. As of this week, all 8 songs are on Billboards Hot 100 chart with “Bruno” at number 1 for 3 weeks. All of the songs are great and deserve a listen. “Bruno” seems unique for a charting song, to me, because it’s an ensemble exposition piece, not the Disney heroine “want” song or character song that usually charts. Those beats and that ear worm of a hook definitely make it irresistible.

Yes it is the other way around, Lin Manuel Miranda was brought very early on to the project as a part of the research team since day one so he's credited for the story as well, and his music is what shaped the scenery, he even convinced Disney about the multiple characters through the song "the family madrigal" since they thought it would be too many characters

Lin-Manuel Miranda was brought in to write the songs (he did music and lyrics to all 8 of the song) and he came in at the very beginning of the project. In this project, he wrote the songs and the animation was done after to match up with the songs. All the songs were written to progress the story, they weren't just written to throw in a song here or there, as sometimes happens. The non-songs portion of the music (the background soundtrack) was written by Germaine Franco. This movie doesn't need to be watched with a child. I'm a retired adult and have thoroughly enjoyed watching more than once. Lin-Manuel Miranda also wrote some of the songs for Disney's animated movie, Moana, but he was brought in well after the film was in development. He said he told the folks at Disney if they wanted him to write songs for a movie again, he would appreciate being brought in at the beginning of the process and they did so for Encanto. As mentioned in an earlier comment, his involvement not only gave him credit for all the songs, but he also received a story credit as well.

I honestly love this movie. My kids do as well. The animation is amazing, it doesn't even feel like it is imo. It's like your entrapped the whole time your watching it.

Lin Manuel Miranda wrote the songs and has a story credit. It's an exploration of familial roles and how to heal from intergenerational trauma. And It's funny and moving.

Yes, animation is the exact opposite of live-action film. The soundtrack is done first, and the animation done to match that. Lin-Manuel Miranda was able to indulge in a musical pun with this song. There is a Renaissance song-form that utilized several completely different, unacccompanied melodies. They were sung separately first, and then together, and they would blend perfectly. This song-form is called a 'madrigal', and Mr. Miranda gives us a modern-day madrigal in the second half of the song - which, of course, is a play on the family name of the main characters in the film, the family Madrigal. By the way, I'm 70 years old, and my son is nearly 40, and we still will go to see quality animated films, such as Frozen and Encanto. Please watch the whole film; you'll understand a lot more about the song. Also, the impetus behind whole story of 'Encanto' is 'La Violencia', a period of civil war in Colombia between 1948 and 1958, in which a lot of innocent people died, often in horrific ways. (Nothing graphic in the film, only hints, but people will get in implication.)

Of all the songs in Encanto, this is the ONLY one that isn't directly plot important. We already knew they didn't talk about him thanks to the intro song. And we knew most of the basic information about him from other sources. The specific anecdotes in this song might not have been needed at all. What this song does is three-fold: It reenforces the importance of Bruno as a character, it gives us a red herring about his place on the good guy / bad guy scale, and it is the song to grab the audience to get them to come see the movie. If you cut this song, and just went to Mirabell assembling the "puzzle" in the kitchen, it would have changed little in the movie.

Not exactly. It gives characters we don't get a chance to see a place in the family dynamic. It's a gossip song where all of the family has misperceptions about a family member. It's the incorrect narratives about each family member that fractures the family.

You should watch the back ground in the whisper song you can see Bruno wandering the balcony. Also the section with the shape changer the guy sang in a movie for the first time. You should watch the movie. I'd love to see what you think. I loved it!

Bruno is a very common name especially in Latin countries... by that I mean Latin American countries, Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc... but the origin is German. Bruno is a male given name. It is derived from the Old High German name Brun meaning Brown (modern Standard German: braun). It occurs in continental Europe, United States, Canada, Brazil and Oceania as a given name to men and boys. Meaning: "Brown" en.m.wikipedia.org › wiki Bruno (name) - Wikipedia "

So, as others have said, the whole OST for this movie is straight FIRE! Watch the movie and maybe react to that? Or do the other songs first, have fun with either 😄 One thing: I'd avoid Dos Oruguitas until you've seen the movie. Enjoy!
