In Playa Blanca just now and haven’t seen any protests. Been coming here for years and the local people and staff at our hotel Cordial Marina Blanca have been superb. I can understand the concerns of locals, we have the same issues in the Islands of Scotland, Cornwall, rural parts of Wales, rich people from other parts of the UK buying up property, making it impossible for locals to find places to live. As you say this is a government issue as in the UK. We will be coming back to Lanzarote as we ❤the Canary Islands.

Quite right Mr TravelOn, I agree with everything you’ve said. NOTHING will stop me coming to Lanzarote. I love it. The protests etc didn’t really worry me…. I was more concerned about the hotel I’m booked in to being “built illegally”. I have been to Lanzarote many many times and always feel welcomed by the locals, and that includes in the resorts and inland in the villages and in the north. 😊💕😊

Have been coming to Lanzarote about 2 x a year for 9 years always felt welcome. I do agree with the locals that there should be more infrstructure in place . Also that Vv s should be restricted in areas like Arricife and playa honda etc to make sure there is enough housing for the workers.

Flew home today after spending 2 weeks in playa blanca and the people of Lanzarote couldn’t of been more welcoming and friendly as they always have been every time we come over, this is our 3rd time this year, and we will keep coming back as we absolutely love the island.

It's shocking! Lanzarote is so welcoming. We first came just after COVID it was very quiet. Business owners were so glad to see us! It is still the same now roll on Easter!

We take turns to all four main Canary islands regularly and never had any issues on any of them. Been on them all the last year and due a return to Tenerife in 2 weeks. Won't stop us traveling

I got the No3 bus from Matagorda to Pueto del Carme n half way through the journey this chap got up and insisted I gave my seat up for another gentleman who was clearly a local . When I asked what his problem was, he told me the buses are for local people ,taxis are for tourists.

Hiya Dave! I was talking with a taxi guy and he was saying that it's a rent issue in Lanzarote! I told him that we always book the apartments that are built for tourism! We dnt take the public transport (so locals can get to wrk etc )we only use taxi r we walk ! We book excursions (because its better to have everyone travelling together,saves on fuel etc) and we dnt hire cars ! We do our best to be respectful to the island and the people ! We hope to visit Lanzarote again in 2025 !

Dave the cost of property on the island is unrealistic far to overpriced until the price of property comes down considerably there will always be a issues with locals buying property the average wage will not stretch to buying property no matter how affordable the housing is either prices of property comes down alternatively wages go up considerably until either or are addressed nothing will change

At the end of the day it is very unlikely that the vast majority of locals in Lanzarote are not got to cut off the hand that feeds them. If things did escalate in the future then tourists would just go somewhere else, and we are already seeing a massive increase in the Turkish market. Up to the Spanish to sort it out, and lets face it Devon and Cornwall is just the same.

In Lanzarote at the moment. 5 days in on a 10 day break..no sign of any negativity whatsoever with locals...in fact quite the opposite actually ...couldnt do enough for our grandaughter getting on and off by lifting her out of bus on occassion due to bus being busy...weathwr fantastic ...bit of rain late during night but sun shining ..just back from our 2nd excursion at rancho texas booked with mr travelons website..fully recommend both...Dont listen to the spin doctors of the media for one moment...

The articles I've read in the media have been quite balanced and explained the issues well. I haven't seen any scaremongering. I know residents who have had to leave the islands because they could no longer afford their rent because greedy landlords flipped their property to tourist accommodation. Its just what happened. No conspiracy. So of course some lovals and residents will be angry. Of course some locals will go to extremes and it's right for media to report this too. Surly claiming that newspapers are faking photos without proof is kinda doing what you yourself are giving out about. The issues are real, solutions and change will not happen without media coverage and without ppl having their say.

We have been coming to the canary’s for well over 35 years, it’s changed massively. Air B&B have spoiled the islands, V.V should be charged at an astronomical rate, house prices would fall back to local residents, and tourists would have to rely on hotels & self catering complex ( just like we used to ). Tourists numbers would fall back to a manageable amount and maybe the local government would stop taking back handers
