I drove one of these at work in the early 1970s. I loved it then, this one is much better! I plowed snow with the work one and hauled trash to the dump. Very versatile!

I've always thought these were cool trucks, but the original mechanicals left a lot to be desired. Its great to see one brought up to date and made into something you could drive around town today.

We had a '63 FC-150, and yes, the old F-Head was not powerhouse and 5.38 gears meant 45 mph was straining the limits. But it was a cool truck.

In England as a child I had 2 Corgi toy models of this Jeep, one this colour was a pickup the other was blue with a cherry picker lift for replacing street lamps. I knew they had to exist as real vehicles but I'd never seen them for real either in Britain or on American movies. I got a nostalgia hit when I opened this video.

I've seen plenty of these trucks in Southern India where I grew up in the mid to late 1990s. They were built in India by a company called Mahindra under license from Jeep. They were initially badged as Jeep, but later the designation to changed to FJ460 or the likes. Unlike the FCs in the US, most of the vehicles India had a flat windscreen. They are very rare nowadays, since most of them get worked to death. However, they are still available as mini buses, and you see them occasionally.

MultiPurposeReviewer Oh bah humbug. I guess they just don't make them like they used too. :/ I would pay good money for a Blue, green, or heck, even a RED interior on some cars.
@mr.intensity26855 жыл бұрын
@@MultiPurposeReviewer Agreed, cheaper, and that's too bad. For everyone who might want a new 2019 JL in the new "Bikini"color it doesn't go with the black interior. It needs to be a Sandy color. I think it's a girly name, but wait until you see it in the sun it reminds me of a shade of blue used by Honda in the early '80's

Looks awesome! I like that you updated the running gear too. But I would love to see more details on how it was fit to the TJ. Like details on the steering setup, where you hid the brake booster and master cylinder, how the radiator fits and gets enough air, etc.

That is the vehicle I learned to drive in, The 4 cylinder with the 3 speed tranny was screaming at 50 MPH. Also it was the first engine overhaul my father and I overtook. It broke a timing chain while I was goofing with some high school buddies in the cattle fields around the Reading airport back in 1975. Same color as yours too. My father never fixed the front wheel shimmy that would scare the crap out of you when hitting a solid bump at speed. Only after the battery fell out from it's rusted box behind the seat did he get rid of it.

Needs a fifth wheel, looks a bit like a miniature cab over artic! but a really cool little vehicle. They fitted the way ahead of its time 3 cylinder "Cerlist" Scavenge blown 2 stroke diesel in some FC Jeeps too.
@DocWolph8 жыл бұрын
They could build something fairly close today. The cab would be more like a Smart car, with some changes obviously. But most telling is the cab would be designed the deflect an off set wreck, not absorb it.

Updated mechanicals and co is a good idea, but, to my mind, all the cute little details are, I suppose fun, but pointless. Just get in and use it!! And it needs an expert antique restorer to work on those oh so clean lookin wheels! Cut the paint back till some metal's showin and spray 'em with a bit of salt water, then forget 'em.

why are they called 'forward control' now instead of the old school term 'cab over' that most truckers still use today?
@thetman00688 жыл бұрын
That's what they were marketed as, so the name stuck. Why do they call them CJs instead of 4x4 Off-Road Mini Utility Vehicles?
@robthurlow13478 жыл бұрын
Because land rover made a version and called it forward control and this set the trend. land rovers 101 forward control is a monster in comparison to one of these though they were built solely for military use so are rare now.
