We drove a 1967 cabover Freightliner 2,800 miles across the country

My Father and I bought a cabover freightliner at a online auction in Medford, OR. We decided to risk it all and drive it home sight unseen to barnwell, SC. The truck is 1967 freightliner with a small cam 335 Cummins with a set of 4x4 Transmissions. This is how it went

I went to the white Freightliner factory in Portland, Oregon in the summer of 1967 and got to watch my new tractor being built. It had a 335 Cummins, Jake Brake, Spicer 4x4, and best padded interior and air conditioning. I drove it back to the dealer in Sacramento with two more decked behind it. Thought I died and went to Heaven. Was my wife's first overnight in truck.

You could walk around with one of the bosses on the line and get up close and personal with your truck as it was moving from station to station while it was being built. That trip from Medford I drove many times to Winnemacca, Nv hauling feeder cattle, Bill

I drove real white freightliners on International Transport in the early sixties. 335 and 380 Cummins, 4x4 trans geared for 75 mph, about 20% of interstate hysteria complete. We hauled cat , Vietnam war stuff outa Mechanicsburg pa, lumber Hides to chips falls wi, still making shoes here in those days

Yea she did pretty good. We didn’t have to do any thing to her but wire up some tail lights and add the fog lights. We never even shut it off from the time we pick it up at the auction to when we got home. And we had her tached out the whole trip at about 52-55 mph lol
