The only rule I'd suggest is getting rid of the instant loss if your Deck Master dies. To put it in line with Commander more, have there be a significant tax to bring it back out instead. Like 2000 points for every time after the first, or banishing a number of cards from your deck face-down. That way you guys will be more incentivized to actually play them. edit: that being said, the way this match ended was very very funny due to this rule being there lol

I've created a Yugioh multiplayer Draft Cube, similar to Magic the Gathering. It thrives because of "Extra Net", letting everyone else draw when an extra deck monster is summoned. I think your deckmaster experience will greatly benefit from having 4 players at the same time

If you want an overview into the cube: dragon rulers/ lightsworn/ flip/ equip spell/ reanimate+self-mill are viable stategies. Everything is glued together by rank 1-4 + 7 XYZ and 2-10 Synchros

I've made my own kind of format that's reminiscent of playground/ battle city yugioh. Pretty much no hands traps, link, & pendulum summons. Ritual monsters are in the extra deck and you get 1 tribute summons per turn along side your normal summon/ set. Really fun to play for all the cool bad cards we got.

I remember making up my own deck master rules as a kid. I think it was like, the DM's effect would be applied at all times as if it were a monster face up on the field; monsters (maybe only normal?) could be alternatively paired with a continuous spell or trap to get that effect (treated as a monster effect). It could be negated for a turn or continuously by something like skill drain, but the DM couldn't be targeted or destroyed until it was special summoned. And if so (spell or trap cards still treated as just the monster effect), if the card were sent to the graveyard or removed from play, the game would end in a loss (else it returned to the deck master zone). (Didn't run into paradoxes but I guess just you can't put skill drain on a monster or similar). I think in practice we let the continuous spell/trap just work as an augment. I think at the time most of the effect monsters we could use just had one off effects anyways, so it was all about letting normal monsters have something we could agree about instead of just making up anime effects.

Soul servant works how it doesn’t matter how many copies you control or in your gy, it cares about how many different monsters there are, so if you have 2 dark magician and 1 dark magician girl, you only draw 2

It would be cool with instead of if your deck master dies you lose instead it goes back to the deck master zone and if you want to summon it again you have to pay “tax “ by discarding a card for each time it is sent back to the zone, to balance it it can be if your deck master is level 4 or lower you can summon it without tributing, 5 and 6 you have to tribute 1 monster to special it and tribute 2 monsters for 7 and higher

⁠​⁠@@TeamAPSit’s because of FTKs. Or even 2 turn kills. Soul can target any “Red-Eyes Black Dragon”, a quick effect 2400 burn every turn would be insane. Especially when Meteor Comet Dragon is treated as a Red-eyes Black Dragon when summoned with Red-eyes fusion, Soul can target it to deal 3500. Then add any other burn cards you happen to draw, like inferno fire blast.

Also you guys should really do a Forbidden Memories format match based on the original game for ps1 with the following 'rules': - no sacrifice required for high level monsters and you can mix cards in your hand to summon fusion monsters without the need of any type of spells or any card effect. - creatures with '?' stats are considered as 0. - you can declare a list of cards in your hand, discard the first n'th cards and summon the last creature in any order (non creatures are discarded regardless of order if you have any monster cards declared), if those cards are fusion materials they are obligatory used to summon the corresponding creature. - Any monster is considered a normal monster regardless of type, there are no monster effects (except for exodia) and there is no extra deck, you can summon fusion monsters as normal creatures and they go in the main deck. - You can special summon a fusion creature by mixing the fusion materials in your hand, so basicaly you can have both 3 copies of the same creature and also fusion summon the same creature without restriction as long you have and can mix the materials in your hand (ex summon 3 black skull dragons as normal summon then summon a fourth one from the hand by mixing summoned skull with red eyes b dragon, then a fifth one the next turn by the same process. - There are no synchros, XYZ or tokens since they 'don't exist' in this case. - You can mix cards based on the interpretation of the creature's name or art just like in the game (ex. you can mix 2 creatures one dragon and one thunder to summon thunder dragon, and mix one more dragon or thunder to summon twin headed thunder dragon). - You must have exactly 40 cards, no more, no less. - There is no banlist of card limit, (3 copies of 'change of heart' on one set? perfectly fair) There are some other shenannigans on that game but that would be too much to bear already. I can't even imagine how bonkers and ridiculous that kind of duel could play out

Me and a few local friends used to use a 40 min format where the deck must contain: 10 Magic Cards 10 Trap Cards 20 Monster Cards (Ten of which must be vanilla no effect cards.) No extra copies of cards (Except cards that are thematically played with copies such as blue eyes white dragon.)

Not to complain twice on the same video, but I feel like the "if this card leaves the field: Lose the duel" restriction really hurts this formats choices for deck masters, since you're more incentivized to never use your deck master so as to avoid losing the duel. It also means you can never use your deck master as Fusion, Link, Synchro, XYZ, ritual, or tribute material. Maybe you could try playing with a rule a bit more like Magic's commanders? Where when they leave the field they require one more tribute than the last time they were brought out. Example, Stratos is my deck master, I summon him once for no cost, Use his effect to add Blazeman to hand, normal summon Blazeman, add poly, fuse for sunrise. In my hypothetical, Stratos could then return to the Command Zone, but If you want to summon him again, you now have to tribute one monster to do so, ad infinitum.

I'm quite a fan of the dragon sword fusion, Strong Wind Dragon+the Black Dragon Sword was my boss monster in Master Duel up until Gold 4 when I built a Sacred Beast deck.
