Great APR Stage 1 results! On the Stage 2 car, log IAT. IAT on the dyno will KILL performance and that's very true with a dual pulley setup that spins the charge much faster. If you're on a dyno with low airflow (a big low CFM fan won't cut it), you'll definitely see power drop off compared to the road. Log IAT and this should become very clear. Once you cross our IAT safety threshold, we open the bypass valve to prevent the engine from eating itself.
@VancityAudi3 жыл бұрын
The owner provided me logs from the street after he suffered performance loss on the dyno. His car is pulling massive amounts of timing on your Stage 2 - DP & TB 93 octane tune. His IAT's were well within reason as well. Although they would have been significantly higher on the dyno, that wouldn't have been the case on the first dyno pull before the car really started to heat up unless something wasn't operating as intended.
@APRtube3 жыл бұрын
@@VancityAudi With higher IAT the ecu will request less timing rather than showing up as knock, unless we're talking about something extreme. If there's a lot of timing pull that's causing issues, check the quality of gas, and use a different gas station. Change the oil and inspect the PCV for blow by. Check the plugs, replace, regap. Inspect for coolant leaks within the cooling bricks. Inspect the cats to ensure they haven't failed.

@@eeiko321 It had nothing to do with the health of the vehicle and carbon build up on others. It's very simple actually. Manual B8/8.5's have significantly less drivetrain loss. Seeing as every other car we compared it to was a DSG, it appeared to make more power than the others did.

No, it isn't. As I explained in the pinned comment, that car suffered less drivetrain loss than all the other automatic cars. Not only that, it managed to rev higher than all the other cars because it was a manual. The higher you can rev a supercharged motor, the more power it will make. Looking back on it, I should have never included that car in the testing.
@Nubsauce Жыл бұрын
@Vancity Audi I know how the transmissions work. That's why it's an even larger benefit to get the transmission tune with the 7spd ones after the ECU Tune. Brings that rpm limit to 7300 and change. But even still. The cars with the crank / pulley upgrades should have been pushing upwards close to 4 with a tune. A full stage 2 dual pulley with an APR tune, after the other bolt ons, of course, are pushing over 500bhp. And if people are putting 93 in a 91 octane profile, it could cause performance issues as the car is now pushing more hp and tq than what the ECU tune is expecting.
@VancityAudi Жыл бұрын
@Nubsauce depends on the TCU tune. Most are raised to 7200rpm. Some are even higher up to 7350rpm. That is if they are even using one. As for the Stage 2 tuned vehicles, I'm not sure you watched the whole video or just skipped to the end results? I go over the fact that neither of those cars were working properly, and that is the owner's fault for not datalogging and testing before they brought it to the dyno to make sure they were running at 100%. As for putting 93 octane in a 91 octane tuned vehicle and suffering performance loss... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's not how it works. Using a higher octane fuel then required will only benefit the vehicle, not take away from it.
@Nubsauce Жыл бұрын
@Vancity Audi I watched the whole thing. And I agree that it is the owners' faults. As for the octane, sure, it will benefit, but some tunes specifically say not to use any other octane other than the one that the profile is built for or it could cause anomalies. At least, that is what I see from the main brand tunes. Could be different from company to company. IE: Cobb tunes are less pissy with octane differences. I was really excited to see that A7 dominate, but man... that one really didn't like what was going on.

As someone who sees a lot of tunes, what would you say is the best to use on an Audi s4 2015 if I go water/meth? I currently use APR stage 2+ with the APR Heat exchanger, Ultracharger kit, Open Airbox CAI, Awe Exhaust and 034's Dual pulleys. Havent done Water / Meth yet but seems APR doesnt support it and if i want to go with it I will have to change to a different tuner. IE and 034 are the two I have considered but not sure if all that price of changing and getting water/meth would be worth it, though from what I have read it will allow me to use my 91 octane which is all we have here and go with a higher octane tune.
@VancityAudi9 ай бұрын
You'd want to go with a custom tune to utilize water/meth to its fullest. All of the OTS tuners that you mentioned won't get you every last drop of performance via the additional octane and cooling it will provide.
@Imnuktam9 ай бұрын
Is water/meth worth it in your opinion for the money with the mods I have so far when all I have access to is 91 octane? Any suggestions on a good custom tuner? Only things I feel I really have left to get me to the 500whp I have been shooting for is that and porting the blower.
@VancityAudi9 ай бұрын
@Imnuktam water/meth would be an amazing octane booster for you, seeing as you only have access to 91 octane fuel. With a proper nozzle and WM setup, you'd be able to theoretically run a 100 - 104 octane map and make WAY more power than straight 91 octane fuel would get you. You would need a specific tune to utilize the fact you'd be spraying anytime above a certain throttle application. United Motorsport offers custom tuning. You'd need to find a local dealer near you though to create a custom tune for your setup.
@VancityAudi9 ай бұрын
@Imnuktam as I mentioned United Motorsports offers custom tuning. IE doesn't offer custom tuning. Snow Performance and Aquamist both make good kits.
@Imnuktam9 ай бұрын
Saw that you mentioned United Motorsports and finding a local dealer but only found locations for them in OH and KY which is why I asked about remote tuners. Appreciate all the feedback, water / meth is not something I have ever done to a car before so is all new info for me. Car runs great right now and I am guessing is somewhere around 500hp to the crank. W/M is about the only mod left on my list (maybe ported blower if I could get a good enough price) to get me to around 500whp / 600 crank, which is where I wanted to get the car to when I started modding it. Always want more, but I am not sure on the S4 internals limit and want to make sure I dont push them to far.

Question: For the S4 only running APR stage 1 without tune or other mods - won’t that strain the OEM components? Or is that safe?
@VancityAudi Жыл бұрын
You have to keep in mind that the only reason that tune made so much more power is because of it having less drivetrain loss because it was a manual transmission, and the fact that it was able to rev higher than all the other cars. Supercharged motors make more power the higher they can rev. This tune along with all the other ones showcased are safe for the motors.

Wow, really surprised to see such low numbers from the Stage 2 vehicles. I'm on a Stage 2 APR DP tune with 034 TCU tune and I'm seeing about 395-400whp from virtual dyno, but my graphs look really smooth and boost is holding strong in the high rpm. That 405whp from a Stage 1 car seems to be a fluke, that engine must be blessed by the car gods because that's way more than what would be expected from most Stage 1 cars. Manual definitely does help putting a few more ponies to the road though.

Sadly, both of the Stage 2 cars were suffering from mechanical issues that neither of the owners were aware of. The APR manual car read as high as it did because a manual car suffers less drivetrain loss than the cars that use a DSG.

This assumption is very incorrect. I ran no quicker than an 11.3 on single pulley running E30. Dual pulley on E40 netted me a 10.9. Without the weight reduction that would have been an 11.0 or 11.1. If you can manage your IAT's you will absolutely go quicker and faster with a DP setup vs a SP setup.

Every dyno will read differently. Plus you have to keep in mind that being a manual car, it went higher in the RPM than all the others. Superchargers need RPM to make power, so by reving it out higher than all the other cars it made more power. As for the 500hp simply go on a Dynojet or Dynocom dyno and you'll make way more power than these cars did.

We don't have aggressive, or rather risky/dangerous timing on Stage 1 pump gas tunes. This is evident by the over 10 years of tuning 10's of thousands of these without issue. It's more likely the correct variable wasn't logged, or the resolution at which it was logged captured the moments after lifting.
