We hire a car from our Hotel Betriz in Costa Teguise and drive down to Playa Blanca on the island of Lanzarote to meet up with Nina and accidently get in trouble. Nina was able to help us out of a sticky situation. I live on Gran Canaria and only had 1 ticket in 16 years. It's usually €200 but If you pay the fine within 24 hours and you are a resident it's only €40. So she got you her resident discount. You're very lucky. As soon as I had seen you cross the solid white line( not allowed ) and park facing the oncoming traffic ( not allowed ) I guessed you would get a ticket. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

I remember watching the large boats reversing into the harbour when I was there about 5yrs ago. Nice resort, plenty of shops and eateries. Good cheap bus service on Lanzarote also if you want to explore the island.

Best to check the traffic laws before you drive in Spain. 1st you can't cross a single solid white line (a few exceptions) as it is the same as a double white line in the UK. Unless you are in a one way street you can only park on the side of the road that traffic is travelling, which is probably why you got a ticket. If the police saw you do the U turn across the line you would have had two fines. These laws have been in force here as long as I can remember. It really is best to check the laws before driving, they are many and varied, for instance if someone is walking across a junction you are turning into you have to give way, if overtaking a cyclist you have to give a minimum of 1.5 metres on a normal two lane road and move completely into the offside lane if it is a dual carriageway, wearing inappropriate clothing when driving, having you arm out of the window when driving, having anything on your windscreen when driving except official stickers, failing to dip your headlights at night when going round roundabouts out of town, plus many many more. Yes, I have been fined for some of these and know people here who have been fined for the others. Plus, you can be fined for not using a pedestrian crossing when one is available within a reasonable distance which I did see you do. This isn't a moan at you, this is just some friendly advice to avoid you getting any more fines.

On the flip side was so nice to see you have a small treat with a curry. As you know certain dietary requirements can become very restricted in certain places an circumstances.
