as a new gw2 player i can say the community has been very accomadating so far. i made friends in the first few minutes of playing and they invited me to their raid team once i hit level 80. most of the time i ask people for help, they will do their best. i havent touched pvp outside of wvw so i cant speak on that, but everything else has been great. my biggest problem was when i found out the living seasons didnt come with the expansion collection i bought, and i had joined the game after they were free so i was mega bummed. but i just bought em anyways and its been worth it. great game and most people are chill from my perspective. toxicity exists but its not call of duty level toxic lmao

I never played fractals, raids or strikes because i don't feel like modifying my build/gear... it's not like the game mode won't be doable if we don't go meta and i actually play for fun; back in the days i didn't do dungeons until i was able to solo them because nobody liked that i was watching every cut scene and reading everything... but i do understand that the way I play is on me, the community is not to blame for me not wanting to acomodate the needs of the vast majority.

My enjoyment of Guild Wars 2 stopped just after the talents were reworked and Heart of Thorns came out with ascended gear sets and such. Suddenly it was no longer the game where I could test out various builds and enjoy things my own way and I'd get excluded from dungeons and even WvW zergs if I didn't run the current meta build. So you're on the nose there that for a game which offers so much build diversity, people really get far too toxic if people aren't running a build that they consider to be optimal. As long as I'm bringing something to the team that people desire, where's the problem if I deal my damage/do my healing/give out my boons differently? I miss the days when I could show my friends a new build I'd made and they'd test it out and stuff to see how it felt/how they could change it to feel better for them. Really good video with completely valid points in all categories, especially WvW.
@user-xo2og8kv1o3 жыл бұрын
i wouldnt contribute those changes to the hot expansion or the release of new gear. gaming, specially online gaming, has changed so much over the years. sure you can bring your healing, dmg and buffs in many different ways, but there are those few builds that do it better and youre taking away a spot for someone who does it more efficiently with a meta build. the reason you feel that way is bc the gaming mindset has shifted to opimization and minmaxing over the years. thats a reality you find in many mmos, where ppl will say "it was so much better back then, when i could do x or y and ppl were so much more chill". thats a big part of gaming nowadays and if you dont want that, you simply have to look for a community that thinks the same way you do and wants to play the same way you do, or rather with the same sentiment, which is definitely possible btw.

I know that I don't enjoy it, but others do, and I'm at peace with it as long as I can just play what I want. The explorable grand world just tickles that fancy in my tiny brain with the gorgeous music and ambiance, and occasional players helping each other out. WvW is so much fun if played competitively and with a sportsmanlike attitude. I enjoy beating up enemies if I can, but I respect their gameplay (unless it's just ganking or griefing). Even more fun are occasional fights against my own guild or server friends in the Eotm arena, or during the alliance beta. Some take this mode too seriously for me, and some don't take it seriously enough for me. There will always be enough of these extremes and everyone in between. You can find like-minded players and enjoy it the way you like. And as long as we can accept different strategies (for example ppt vs ppk) then it will stay fun for us and keep a healthy community. What I also love about our WvW community is the drive to get better together, teach and learn. Even if we are not top of anything by any means, it can help to develop a good mindset towards competition and personal growth.

Always said Gw2 is one of the hardest raid communities to get into, even though the raids are easier then pretty much most other major MMO's. In WoW, you clear Normal/Heroic once, get the achievement, and show that you've killed the boss before...In gw2, you have to prove you've killed the boss 50-100 times to get into the groups. Kill proofs are the most debilitating things for new players, who may actually be pretty decent already, but cant get in. Anet needs to rework the entire LFG system, remove kill proofs, allow linking achievements, and balance their classes so your comps have a little wiggle room in pugs.

I am sadly on a very toxic WvW server. After playing a summer of WvW to try to get the Legendary Armor, I completely burnt out of the game after endlessly encountering vitriolic players. When someone asked for help, I went. When I died, they berated me for almost 20 minutes. Like how does that help? We were outnumbered and I got targeted down. And if a commander runs into another zerg and dies, people just go apeshit saying how they don't know how to lead, yet they're unwilling to tag up themselves. I eventually rejoined the game after being away for 6 months, but I still avoid WvW for the most part. I'm waiting on Alliances now before I complete the rest of my Legendary Armor pieces.
@borhulo95213 жыл бұрын
honestly, ioj came to my mind when i read this comment(or tc if it comes to monkey? but i find monkey rather funny than toxic, cause heard somewhere he roleplays a raging asura. other than that tc is a chill WvW server imo). not saying all of ioj is like this, but there are quite a few bored vocal minority who like to create this kind of toxic environment. sometimes it's probably best to just ignore their comments or block and be done with them. can't take their behavior and actions to the heart. during fight as long as you've done everything you could, it's fine. and if you don't want to block guess you just gotta have thick skin, ignore them and move on. either way hope you give WvW one more shot and keep the healthy environment population up. wvw is really fun if you can join a good community. solo roaming is fun too, it's like playing the game in hard mode.
@stevenmcclure40943 жыл бұрын
I'm a very casual player and seldom run meta builds. Lucky to have never had to deal with toxic players in WvW. If I'm roaming with a couple other players and die quickly or often, I'm given advice if anything is even said to me. Almost have my legendary armor and back piece.
@not_very_loki3 жыл бұрын
@@borhulo9521 I generally consider myself thick skinned, but it really isn't possible to ignore the problems when it was a daily occurrence, even with blocking. And the story about commanders being insulted wasn't even me as the commander. Squad chat would go berserk and the commander get frustrated and drop out. I see squad chat do that and I becomes too intimidated to put up my own tag. Ultimately this drives away people trying to help or lead. And this sucks because the fastest ways to get WXP requires a squad. As fun as small roaming is, taking Camps doesn't compare to taking Towers, Keeps, and Castles. And if I have to turn off chat or block everyone on my own server, why bother playing an MMO at that point? I can just play a single player game and get more fun, less stress, and not have to care about the filth- which is exactly what I did during my break. But I joined an MMO because I wanted social interaction, especially during the pandemic. I did WvW because I find the general gameplay of taking over fortifications and large scale PVP fun. But once things look bad and the server turns sour, it stops being a fun and my legendary journey starts being a terrible chore. I didn't name my server so people don't get upset and either rush to defend the server or the other way and dogpile on it. People know if their own server is toxic or not and calling them out doesn't really help. After coming back, it's definitely a quieter server, but to my understanding all the larger Guilds left the server for greener pastures rather than the toxic dump. I'd probably have done the same if Alliances wasn't supposedly so close.

This is seen in every progressed mmo that there are experienced player and high end players, the problem is that they earned that experience was mostly earned through either starting the game early/pushing through a lot of tutorials or both, anyway what I wanted is that every MMO should add a casual friendly group search which if you choose is your accord, something similar to spvp unranked, where you can do what ever in a way, but they could add a ranked for casual where like unranked you try your best with your own builds, but may lose, but don't get the ranked blames, just the old someone got raging going on, still get "rank". Also add mini dungeons, very short hard events for new/less experinced/short on time players to learn to match up for a possible bigger dungeons etc. something like training, but with it's own rewards, reminds me of the WoW burning crusade on boss dungeons, which had an interesting aspect, but didn't see of those anymore.

This is exactly what I have always been advocating for - to have a functional MMO, you need many types of players, not just the ones who are similar to you. Also the reason I find the the new Strike Mission model announced for End of Dragons (three difficulties) a good way to deliver PvE content to players with different skill levels and expectations. Unlike many veterans, I'm actually pleased with the idea, not just stomaching it grumpily.

The number one thing GW2 needs is a reworked base game. Now hear me out... I don't mean remake, I mean rework, think Eye of the North, no instancing, when you go there the game client loads up the characters and dialog appropriate to you, same thing with open world where the game will load client side appropriate characters and dialog depending on where you are in the story regardless of everyone around you, contrast that to the base game where you have to get in and out a million instances for some dialog... we'll always have some instances for fights, but not for dialog, not only that having these load client side without instancing means less stress on the servers and that saves them money. Another thing is throw away the side by side two character dialog scenes, I get this was a way to try to save money, but it never worked, just let that dialog play in the world like they do today. They could also rework the camera on some presentations, that alone would make them look so much more enjoyable, as someone re-playing the original personal story right now I can't help to think, if I was a new player I would quit it, and that's not something Anet can afford, I'd have all this done before Steam.

The same banter happens in all types of sport. Psychological warfare to throw people off their game. Even the salty messages are kind of a way to give that player props for being better than you because you got rekt so hard you felt the need to message that person about how bad they rekt you. Just imagine IRL playing super smash bros with your friends and all the shit talk that gets thrown around the room during the match but everyones still friends afterwards. I wish everyone in the community watched this video. I'm so exhausted by the way PvP (I literally run on invisible and with totally hidden chat when I PvP) and end-game community behaves… I play PvP only when I need something I can only get from it, because I can't manage to find it funny anymore, due to how oppressive and toxic people can be. As if it's players' fault if the matchmaking creates completely unbalanced teams in terms of experience and composition. I have abandoned raids, after for the nth time our no requirement (specified in LFG as chill run) group got insulted despite killing all bosses in the first attempt. It makes me almost cheer at the lack of announcements of new raids. What's the point to push yourself to play a challenging content, in your own humble pace, when there will always punctually be someone to bring everyone else down for no reason? I also hate how people accept only HFBs as healers in Fractals. Even when making your own team (and we always specify it's a chill run) there will be those players complaining for not following the imposed standards. As if there would really be such a massive difference in running a druid + qfb for example. I've even seen power weavers kicked from Fractals teams because they only wanted DHs as DPS. And about WvW, it's not just towards enemy servers. If you are in a server that doesn't fare so well, it's all an insult towards 'pve trash', commanders rage-quitting at the first fail, locked squads that only take warriors and guards… 0 attempt from the community to encourage those pve players to dedicate seriously into wvw and not just grind it for that gift of battle and leave to never return. Sorry for the rant. I just meant to say that everything in this video is totally right and important. I hope it reaches enough people to inspire some changes, for the sake of everyone.

WVW Trolls are the worst of the toxic players. For example they send whispers like, "do you know how much better the game would be if you were not in it"; or, "the world would be a better place without you here". Then the person responds with cussing and telling the person off in "say" or "map" chat. The others then deem that player to be toxic because they cant see the whispered chat from a childish and disturbed mind. The most troubling is the guilds with a player (s) so arrogant they will invite then kick invite then kick over and over thinking they are funny. Once again others dont see it when a player tells them where to go. In this instance the root issue begins with the head of the guild. I see players being excluded from groups because they are new to the game or maybe not as good as some. I stopped play in WvW for the next four years because of such experiences in the first couple of months. I gave up my tag three years ago as I became frustrated with these same guild members (from other guilds) that will complain about water being wet (metaphor) after leading a tag run with four towers, one keep, and several guard posts and camps taken, two veterans, two champions as a Ranger or a Druid. Significantly, when I see several pugs not rezzed with an entire party standing right beside the downed. I rez (if I am not one of the downed) and let those dong nothing they are being rude. Oh man, does the disturbing whispers start after that. Personally I gave up trying to join squads or parties like so many others. I join if requested to join other than that I will pug as a solo and will help new players needing help. Coming across some great tags I donate stacks of siege, tens if not hundreds of gold, Hero banners, and utility stations or books as I understand the cost of such efforts. Eight out of eleven tags over the last three years have responded with gratitude three didn't even say thank you (same guilds' alliances with problem members). This was a really decent post and explanation Vallun. Some guilds really stand out for poor behaviour and some really stand out for excellent behaviour.

@@jipgg alot of ppl have lost faith in anet, bc they never really communicated anything or were transparent about anything. ppl asked for pvp and wvw changes for 6 fucking years, what do they get from anet? silence and no changes... and new cosmetics and lootboxes in the gemstore every month. ppl want more raids, what do we get in the new expansion? fishing and more open world/story content to hold the casual playerbase that they can sell their gemstore costemtics to. not very moralizing isnt it. anet seemingly does nothing to work together with the playerbase to tryto deliver a better experience and improve their game and systems. while ff14 is a whole different world. they communicate their plans, they hold interviews with their players and actually listen and implement feedback, they apologize for mistakes and always try to improve. hell, even ff14s ingame systems, rewards and structures are designed in a way to make it as easy and enjoyable to get into the content as a new or unexperienced player for example. what system do we have to get into into content? right, randomized kps... great, thanks anet, everyone hates it and its actively hurting the playerbase and nothing has changed in YEARS... like, how do u not question their intentions and competence?

i think the reason and problem why we dont see more "chill" groups is pretty simple. most ppl (pug groups) dont play fractals and raids for fun anymore. they wanna go in there and get it done as fast as possible, get the rewards and thats it. and how do you do that as efficient as possible? right, meta and no chill. "hardcore" gw2 pve players are very good at avoiding and skipping as much mechancis as possible to play the game as little as possible. and im certain, the fact that endgame pve content is so run dry, plays a big role. yes that sucks for new players, specially now that we kinda have a big surge of new players in a long time. its not easy to get into endgame pve content as a new player, it wasnt for me at least, and im not a new player, i was just new to raids. i feel like finding a guild that recruits beginner or new raiders and joining raiding communities on discords is definitely needed to get into it. dont expect to be able to use the lfg tool as a new raider in any shape or form, other than looking for guild recruitments in the raid tab. i dont know how much of this is gw2 exclusive or if its a gneneral mmo thing, but i got way faster and easier into ff14 endgame content than i did in gw2, and i play gw2 since release and ff14 since 3 month... sooo idk, might just be a gw2 thing.

Because GW2 allows you to create multiple builds per class, anyone stating you HAVE to have or you NEED to have this build, this armor set, etc., etc. Those are the one's that have no clue. They've forgotten that they themselves were once new to the game. It's them that IS killing the game for many players. Personally, I care less what your build is, what your gear is. The question that should be asked is, "are you still having fun?" So long as you can answer with a "yes", then all is good. If it's "no", then why? That answer is mainly, again, the players that take it way to seriously. The one's that DEMAND you have "X" or you're kicked out of the group. For new players or those that has never raided, or done fractals, this IS a determent to the community. Because that just forces those that want to learn never take that step forward to learn. It's also those "holier than thou" type attitudes kills the game for everyone and it's those people that can't see what they're doing. This is also the reason I believe the ability to see another players gear etc., should NOT ever be allowed in game. It's YOUR account, your toons, your build, play it YOUR way NOT the communities way. Just my $0.02 worth, cheers :)

Came back to the Game 1 1/2 month ago for PvP - block them is one way - but out of 600 played games I have maybe blocked 10 people :D With most of the people going mad you finally can talk and make them understand, there are 10 Brains fighting - each team is different - each team can win or lose, accepting this makes PvP super fun to play and people less toxic ;) Cheers, Happy new Year @ all

I love and hate GW2 at the same time, I love it becouse it's in my opinion THE Best MMO ever made. I hate it becouse I'm unable to play other mmo's becouse GW made me have such high expectaction from mmo that no other game can match ... and I already played GW for so many years I'm burned out, yet can't play anything else cuz nothing is as good as GW :/

Nice vid. However i must say a very toxic WvW player exist on SoS SEA if you still play on that server. Goes by Professor Dexter, runs with a 50 SEA blob that fight 10-15 and sends bad bms. Also found some NT players to be quite toxic if you kill them. (yea that corpse jumping, siege throwing mithril ele)
@ibgraf3 жыл бұрын
The jerks are everywhere, and there always will be one, they are like stones, you can't get rid of them. As for WvW, i personally think the biggest problem are Comm that would rather kill game than suffer a defeat. Every day we witness a catastrophic balance in the WvW where one side has a full raid and goes against 35, and the moment it gets a little hard they activate sub comm whose only role is to attack from behind and pull healers away. Poor thing, but individuals will do anything to feel special. First of all WvW needs a sit out zone, which will pull random players out of the game and keep them there until the number is tied, and definitely what it needs is to combine 4 maps into one and add another side, e.g. white with a maximum of 75 players per colors or 300 players per map. Another thing to do is to remove PvE content from the map, to prevent the influx of PvE players into the PvP zone that generally block the normal flow of the game, and to do WvW rewards more awarding.

Do you stand by your drama baiting videos? Those are toxic videos that put the community in a bad light that you used to get clicks when there's nothing bad actually going on in the videos. Kind of hypocritical to say some of these things while also having a video that dumps on people for blocking others etc
@Vallun2 жыл бұрын
nope, you're wrong. If you think the entire point of my video is you shouldnt block others then you're very clearly biased and cherry picking. All of my expose videos have a central topic whether it is rating is meaningless or handling narcisissm, and the people who serve as examples for these lessons chose not to learn from their mistakes

I re-joined gw 2 about two months ago after not playing it since the start, I was sort of encouraged by all the positive things said about the community outside the game - how it is friendly, helpful and unlike the other mmo communities out there. What did I find? Ask a question in fractals: "ugh why do I have to always get these people, just fking google it"; join several guilds: everyone is silent all the time and any offer to group up is met with "don't have time, later"; and lastly the pvp scene is a toxic cesspool, the amount of teammates throwing abuse because I made a mistake or died to a class I never faced before is just unreal - I honestly found less toxicity in dota 2 ranked. I'm not sure where is this amazing gw2 community, that is supposed to be so unlike other communities in other mmo's because I have yet to find it. All I met so far is seemingly a bunch of jaded players that have been with this game since ages and hate their life whenever they see a newcomer, for me at least the GW2 experience has been one of the loneliest mmo experiences, most of the people that I added to the friends list have been other new players and some of them haven't logged in for over a month.

Hmmm I'm a daily player and I see the amazing community on a daily basis. Perhaps its the content your seeking? PvP, raids and high lvl fractals are where all the tryhards gather. If your looking to hop into the deep end especially without preparation, probably not the wisest move. My tip: never join an LFG with abbreviations in the title till you know those mean. Look for titles like 'All welcome' etc to find the chill peeps. If you want a good guild and are EU then reply to this and I'll hook you up.
@user-xo2og8kv1o3 жыл бұрын
yeah, whenever i see ppl praise the gw2 community so highly and say everything is so nice, i immediately know they never raided, played high lvl fracs or pvp, and if they did they did it with a secluded friend group. bc theres no way you dont experience rather frequent toxicity in high end pve. in pvp u can at least disable the chat and ur not required to interact with anyone to play the game mode, unlike pve where u have to form groups and fear geting kicked out if youre doing too many mistakes or are really low on the dps meter, that cant happen in pvp. generally tho i would agree that the gw2 community is great and nice, but mainly in those open world areas or generally outside of high end pve content or pvp. there is not a ton of toxicity, but the parts where there is toxicity, its fucking wild sometimes.

@@justin8865 aren't you missing the point though, not everyone is toxic but you're generalizing the entire game that way because of the few who are. That's why I said not everyone needs this but if we want to make the best experience, we want to minimize that number, and yes i am preaching to the choir here because the toxic people usually don't come looking for a video telling them not to be, but I think it still has some effect on those on the border

@@Vallun I hope you do, and yes it's big enough to have an impact on at least my enjoyment of the game. I'm frustrated with the games communities it especially how it used to be, the late-night cross-server duels, the bustling server commanders, hell season even 5-6 of PVP was amazing. Now every interaction I have with the community always ends up having some sort of negative thing. I play PVP 1 out of 5 matches or more will have someone who rages, flames the team, and afks. Even in QP! Not to mention I always seem to get stuck fighting a stack. I rarely have that issue in destiny, hunt, and halo. It's more like 1 out of 20 and those games you can at least slay out and feel good even if you loose the match. PVErs will completely optimize the hell out of any encounter which while sometimes can be said for other games, in destiny and vermintide it's not hard for me to find chiller dudes. Wvw the ganks are crazy bad now, either I fight a guy who dosn't know what he's doing and the fight is boring or I get super ganked by a pocket healer or blown up from stealth. Sure the games have been out for a long time and the optimal stats are figured out but shit just not fun. I think everything started going downhill around POF for some reason. Lol, and the forums are strait dumpster fires. God forbid you to disagree with someone you'll get flamed and dogpiled. This game even with its alt-friendly style has class bias! Like in a bad way. Also when as they going to do some balance mix ups, everytime I log on it's the same meta. There's not a lot for me to explore or find interesting. For some reason I still watch your content though. Best community evah is a false ass meme Man I cant wait for elden ring, at least in d3 it's not impossible to do gank spanks that game was made so well that even year's later with no balance updates you can pretty much make any build work. Ds3 invading and fight clubs have become my main jam.
