I owned a 5 litre XKR for 8 years , only thing ever went wrong was a leaking water pump , loved it. Now driving 5 litre F Type R AWD , we traversed the Spanish Pyranees from north to south and back again earlier in the year , spectacular scenery on. 23 day tour

We did the now known as the NC500 40 yrs ago, when only the locals and sheep knew about this spectacular road trip. We could easily drive for upto an hour without passing another vehicle in either direction. Had a few scary moments wondering if we would reach the next petrol station, coasting down hills hoping not to run out of fuel. Awesome scenery when the weather is fine. Never saw a cop car the whole trip until back in Fort William. Always wanted to do this trip again in the XK8, but still not come to pass.[Yet] Great video Paul ,brings back happy memories.

So glad you enjoyed it so much, it’s an epic experience isn’t it? Next time…..you must return via Glencoe, turn right after Beal na Bach and take in Plockton, Kyle of Lochalsh, Eileen Donan and return via Fort William. It’s not on the NC500 but completes a stunning tour perfectly. All of the Highlands are beautiful but for me Glencoe is the most spectacular location.

The first year the North Applecross road was opened, sometime in the 1970's, I drove round The Applecross peninsula in a Bedford CF motor caravan. Not many tourists then, and the only place open in Applecross was the village Post Office & shop. The owner made us beautiful fresh salmon sandwiches for our lunch. We left over the Pass of the Cattle and ran into cloud, emerging after a nervous drive in very limited visibility, into sunlight above Loch Kishorn, where we looked down onto an oil rig being constructed in the deep sea loch.

Fastastic trip with spectacular views. That was a good long prowl for the big cat. She sounds amazing purring along. Some of those views remind me of the scenary around our own holiday home in Co.Donegal. i really enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing it.

The XK is a proper Grand Tourer! I live in Sweden and do 3-5 week tours in Europa every summer in my convertible. Expect 5 - 8000 km's and 100 euro/day/person staying at hotels and eating in restaurants.

Great couple of video's mate realy enjoyed them and what a car to do it in. We're doing the route next May 8 nights taking in Loch Ness and Glencoe, also doing it in a Jaaag, although only a Cub an AWD E Pace, can't wait.

Stunning scenery and great driving roads. But i'm curious how the people living there can make a living. I mean, there is likely hardly any tourism in winter.

Great trip, I've often wondered about it, you've given me the bug and maybe autumn would be best time, still possible to get good weather with less traffic and no mozzies.

So you missed Cape Wrath , watching the RAF live firing is quite impressive. Dunnet Head is actually the most northerly point in mainland Britain but the cafe at John o' Groats is excellent. The Applecross is one of the best fish restaurants in the UK👍 and the Bealach na Ba one of the most technical (treacherous) roads. Eilan Donan castle is spectacular and recommended for your next trip north of the border.
