I think they made Saya so young to show off how absolutely fucked up this guy is. He spent like 6 months in this awful world, and then he saw the last girl on Earth in his eyes, and went for it, regardless of morality.

Meh. While I won't say I wanted him to win, I won't say I wanted him and Saya to win either and that's purely because it's difficult to judge whether his and/or Saya's actions are "good or evil"(or even morally grey for that matter) given how they operate on completely different set of values caused by his aliens senses. It's literally physically and emotionally impossible for him to interact with anyone of his friends and while certainly the way he deals with this through dehumanizing them despite knowing the reason why they look they way they are to him isn't the best can't really fault him as any other normal option (seeking help) would have others not believe him, view him as crazy, or have him end up as a guinea pig. Even then, him choosing to keep his agnosia ends really badly for him in one ending and in another one it ends really REALLY badly for- well... Iykyk.

I disagree with the statement “why not just make a book.” That would deprive the story of the art, music, and choices. Using Fate as an example, the bad endings really help illustrate further how dangerous the Holy Grail War is (as well as providing an awesome ending in Sparks Liner High) and the music is integral in creating the right atmosphere. Not having fluff doesn’t automatically make it better either, fluff can help people better connect with the characters, which is especially important if the story is character driven. While it was pretty good I think the impact of Saya no Uta could have been greater if I actually cared about Fuminori and his friends. Still, glad that Connor is enjoying it so far.

Nah a good book with proper prose could provide me with a much better experience than any fo the Fate art ever could. But there again I hate VN and unironically believe them to be picture books for lazy/unimaginative man-children.
@Birthday888

@@Luissv72 I mean, I could point to the Ace Attorney games as well. So much of why those games work, despite the ridiculousness of the situations the characters find themselves in is because of just how well the game incorporates the use of music, sprites and sound effects to convey the emotional reactions of the characters and to provoke them in the player as well.
@nguyenphuvinh3631
@nguyenphuvinh3631 6 ай бұрын
@@Luissv72It is true that books and novels are definitely something you read and imagine or try to imagine the story itself. But please don't just disrespect Visual Novel and think of it as something that people who can't create a book or enjoy a book would create or read. God, that's not true at all, even Novels do have illustrations that you can rely on to imagine the characters (no matter if the character appearances are important to your imagination or not, it is great for Novel readers), and certainly that's helping the readers enjoy the story itself Visual Novel are literally games, they're interactive, and a proper and compelling story has every single visual in there helps you understand the story not through the narrative or the story told by the author themselves in books. And everything that makes a Visual Novel contributes to an experience completely out of the expectations from reading a book That's why I think there are people who are willing to create Visual Novels despite the fact that it takes a lot of work to make their story into a Visual Novel. If you have experiences with books then I guess book is more of a choice since you're used to it, there are still people like me who had a lot of amazing experiences from both books and Visual Novels. Regardless I wouldn't have made a stand here if I thought VNs were made to be thought as picture books that are for people who couldn't read a book because they're lazy/can't imagine well. Those great stories delivered as VNs that touched ton of people, surely mean more to them than just that. A Visual Novel is a story told with visuals, with voice acting, with music, with characters drawn and with genuine emotions poured into everything, so they can be a fictional story that mattered to the people who create, who love and treasure them. I hope you know that

@@Luissv72I think the difference between visual novel and novel in the end is: playing a game and reading a novel. I mean, I think it's more of a writing issue rather than a Visual Novels issue. Filler exists in every form of media. Worthless filler content is gonna make most people bored and if most of a story is filler then it's a boring story, so saying we want less filler is pretty valid imo
@ttb2313
@ttb2313 6 ай бұрын
@kittykaidoodles796 sometimes filler in visual novels can be done well, take the fruit of grisaia for example that game has a decent amount of filler, but it's used to get you attached to the characters so when the bad stuff happens you feel a deeper connection, on top of that it is connected in a way to give you suddle hints in the story via the ways characters act or speak. I think visual novels can use filler to their advantage, some people don't like it but again, people have preferences, saying that is bad is just an opinion so don't state it as fact for everyone else.

YES CONNOR Saya No Uta is so good for how short it is. I've been feeling this for a long time, but I just want to get this off my chest and warn anyone who wants to understand or try Visual Novels. Visual novels are catered towards people who really want more emotional attachment / impact from anime in general. (Characters, story, music) It feels like a lot of anime and video games come out with some very unique ideas but are unable to execute a full experience. Anime but ESPECIALLY video games have been getting a lot of mainstream attention but because of that are converting to corporate practices with every consecutive year. Unfortunately, it's inevitable at this point. (Micro-transactions, unfinished games on launch, poor optimization, etc.) (Time-crunches, lack of funding, inflation, shorter episodic formats, 24ep > 12ep > 11ep) IMO, this really hinders the storytelling/pacing & character development for Anime. But it is getting better in some ways though. Visual Novels are ALMOST the right medium to merge books, LN, & Anime while retaining almost pretty much everything. At least, more than half of the ones I've read blows EVERYTHING away Anime has to offer except animation quality. And I've barely scratched 5% of the genre. Only caveat is: 1. You have to invest so much of your life for Visual Novels 2. Harem... 3. Sometimes self-fulfillment, self-insert generic, passive MC's 4. "SEKS" sells so be prepared to find a lot of adlut content. Rant over

@maho9139 Glad you're interested. These are my favorites. I'll keep this short if you are looking for recommendations. 1. Muv-Luv Trilogy (Muv-Luv Extra > Muv-Luv Unlimited > Muv-Luv Alternative. Avoid researching too much due to spoilers.) 2. Utawarerumono Trilogy (I'd recommend playing Prelude to the Fallen first, then Utawarerumono Mask of Deception to Mask of Truth. But if Prelude is too slow for you, then perhaps play MoD, MoT to get straight into the action. And hold off on PttF for backstory/lore if you want.) 3. Saya no Uta 4. The House in Fata Morgana 5. 999 series 6. Raging Loop ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's it for now. Muv-Luv and Utawarerumono are heavily character and story-driven. Best worldbuilding in the VN genre. They are slow burns. But if you can see them through to the end; it'll be worth it. If you're not heavy into reading, I'd recommend Saya no Uta, 999 series for beginners.

What is this shit about the beginning of a Visual Novel is too slow because you are meeting the girls etc? That's called the common route for a reason, it's literally the good part before you choose one girl to pursue and all the other characters, and comedic elements, drop off the map. I know the fact you have to replay it for every route (unless you save scum) might wear thin after awhile, but lots of VNs have exceedingly pleasant common routes and beginnings.

...Just admit you either don't have time/cannot manage your time to read a novel anymore. Why would you even call it a "Visual Novel" anymore if it's short af?... Sure, you have light novel that span 30 volume and can read through that but cannot save a visual novel and come back to it like so? Unironically living up to their podcast name ffs... No wonder why the market these days are either 2-3 hours VN that barely has anything worthwhile beside the barebone boring repetitive settings or R18 illustration fest. Nobody has the attention span to sit down and read anymore. Imagine these guys sitting through a game like Majikoi, that spans multiple entries with a routes chart that can look like 5 family trees.

I have those literal same thoughts but with books instead of visuals novels. Gamers can't get into vns unless gameplay, vn readers/gamers can't get into books because multiple routes they need or find it hard to read something without voice acting, music, or visuals. To each their own but hey, everyone has a different level of patience and tolerance so that in of itself is respectable if at least not agreeable.

Yeah, too little long vns comes out nowadays, it sucks :v I'm okay with short, but much prefer the behemoth sized ones, and bruh... And it's so fun when they're choke full of dead ends and alternative routes! Really shows how serious the situation is(for the deadly ones), usually.

Chill, jeez can't people have their own opinion anymore? If they don't like VNs then what's the big deal? I love horror but not a lot enjoy this genre, I'm not bashing them to the ground and trash on their attention span? You VN stans need to chill af
@sakuraorihime3374
@sakuraorihime3374 6 ай бұрын
@@Kate2102360 Problem is not that. There's a difference between a person not liking or having no patience for vns(which is fine, not for them), and a person bashing vns because they're "too long" and "all vns should be short, this shit is boring, lol" even though they're the ones who went for long ones when it's not for them :v What happened is more the 2nd one there :v One is just a person's taste, the other is an offense towards vns and those who read them, specially enjoyers of long ones :v And that the market nowadays has too little long ones, and people's attention span only shrinks is true tho. Regardless of the connection to being unable to read vns, that's a very real problem nowadays, and you shouldn't discredit its seriousness just because you think it's silly or overblown. U have any idea how hard it is to gave a conversation with anyone who uses a lot of short form content(tiktok etc)? Its hell, they keep getting distracted even when its work related or very serious and can barely understand what you say a lot of the time :v I'd say being unable to sit down and read a vn or a book is one of the smallest problems about it... :v

At least make him play a good visual novel. Maybe Majikoi or Grisaia or even Higurashi/Umineko. Why Saya no Uta? EDIT: I guess in terms of good visual novels that get right into the action and are fairly short, I Walk Among Zombies would've been a great choice.
@npdurandal

Probably because other than the actual content of Saya itself it’s one of the easiest visual novels to get into. It’s short, art is fine, interesting premise, and thrusts people right into the action. I definitely feel like if Connor had to read something with a slow start his eyes would glaze over.

@@npdurandal And VNs are simply not for everyone, some people already complain about Steins;Gate being too slow so imagine them reading the VN for it, and considering their reactions and opinions about this one, it is very clear they wouldn't be able to take several hours of 'fluff' dialogue that are in most VNs.

The h scenes are super unnecessary, the horror element is cheesy and try so hard to be edgy, whole thing is more like an edgy teenager's I got a goth girlfriend and it's us against the world level fantasy😂 worse Saya is literally a child, and what they do to the other girl? I never understand the praise towards this game, and don't ever want to understand it.

I already could tell you guys wouldn’t enjoy the usual visual novels with tons of slice of life moments anymore. (Connor definitely won’t enjoy it) Sure, I would like to get back into the story and it does get a bit slow but I love seeing the characters that I grew to care about just enjoy life happily before continuing on with the story. ESPECIALLY if things get worse for them later on. Will never play VNs like this though. (Nor the eroge ones) Horror is absolutely NOT my genre and as a person who gets easily squeamish when it comes to gore, this is big nope for me. (Tsukihime’s level of violence is fine though)

People complaining about the boy's take on visual novels when they haven't picked up any book at a library. I went through alot of adventure novels as a kid, then picked up some romcoms/drama as a teen. Granted I'd be too pu$$y to read stuff like Eragon or GoT, but it's also knowing that it's so good made me not pick it up. I watched KZbinrs play DDLC and I considered that my playthrough. I'm not gonna traumatize myself knowing that I "killed my favorite character and her friends". Being an adult sucks, we lack more time. But even if we had more time, we'd use that to extend vacations, binge anime, finish our Steam library of games, and/or finish my collection of "knowledge" on my booksheves

See dude, you shouldn't project your behavior unto others. There's a lot of people who have picked many books and many vns and read em' all over watching anime, or even reading a good manga. There'll be a lot of people who do just what you said too and would also do what you said in an extended vacation, but point is, dont put all peeps in the same basket. o3o Like, people are different and all that.
