Carol we had so much concrete evidence we thought for sure it would be dismissed electronically. We think when you first contest the ticket they automatically say you you're guilty because most people will give up and I'm sure they do. So frustrating!

Way to go you two, it's the principle of the matter, which is the correct thing to do. The wrong-doing and absolute dishonesty of the officer who wrote that ticket, he/she should be disaplined and made to do additional training, (maybe lessons on how to tell the time). What would a tourist do? Look at the time and energy expended on their parts trying to extort money from parked cars. I would do a freedom of information request for any documents giving the parameters the people that wrote the tickets out. Do they run the plate, to find out if it is a local car? Are they told to put down earlier times? Do they have quotas to write? Etc? Sounds like it's time to call elected officials about this, at least the TV consumer reporter.

I'm sure the officer runs the plates & can see where people live. If they don't live to close, they figure they'll give them a ticket & they won't fight it since its farther for them to have to go & take off work, get a sitter for kids, etc. Horrible how our justice system is run. eerrr!!!

My mom had the same thing happen only she was never parked where they said she was. I was 13 at the time and they tried to say I took her car. She knew better and fought until it was dismissed. Yes that is good advice. I grew up in Arizona. If you go to court to fight a ticket and the issuing officer does not show for whatever reason, you automatically get the ticket dismissed. If he does show up, you can argue your case. The worst that can happen is you are found guilty and have to pay the fine for the ticket which you would have had to do if you didn't fight it. So if you have the means to go to court to fight it, that is always advised.

So glad you fought it. My husband got a ticket when we were visiting NJ. My son was sick on the hotel room and he went to the drug store and to get me food with my other son. He parked in a garage that was metered. When he got back to the car a guy was writing a ticket and said he had to have a parking permit for the lot. We could have fought it but we live in NY. We just took a mini vacation with the kids. Makes me not want to visit NJ again.

I was going through anal cancer. Unfortunately my Drs never told me I would go through uncontrolled bowel emptying. I was driving home from radiation. I had a chemotherapy pack on me. Which means I had a tube going in my neck with the chemotherapy coming from a pump in a fanny pack. I lost control of my bowels and was scared because I had open wound burns from radiation there. So I was speeding to get to McDonald's closest bathroom. I got pulled over. Told him my issue he said go to McDonald's and he would meet me outside when I was done. Well, it took longer than he expected for me to clean up. He started screaming at me the moment I walked out of the restaurant. Saying that I tried to wait him out etc etc. I was bawling at this point. The manager came out and started yelling at the cop because she witnessed all of this. He gives me the ticket after calling me a great actress. I go to court with picture medical evidence and 7 letters from Dr.'s and health officials. The case was dismissed. Because I had a medical emergency which is justifiable. The officer didn't like that I had brought the "Witness" to court with me to verify how the officer bullied me. Judge told the officer she wanted the Sheriff to be calling her before the end of court that day. Meaning his boss. Worth every minute I had to spend fighting it. But the truth is, I would have paid it had he continued to be kind.

Mistakes are often made by the ticketing officer. We received a parking ticket one day in the mail for the car our son drives. It was from downtown Los Angeles on a day that our son was in class at CSULB. The license plate was correct, but the description of the car was totally wrong. We got statements from our son's professors that he was in class, took a picture of our car with the license plate showing, wrote out an explanation about how the officer must have recorded the wrong license plate number when they wrote the ticket, and sent it all in. We never heard another thing about the ticket, I guess they realized their mistake.Yes, it is ridiculous to have to go through the process, but at least it turned out all right. I lived in LA for a year and visited El Cajon where my boyfriend was from. Loved the city but these large cities are full of corruption. They count on the average American to be sheep and to not fight back against big government. I was so glad to get back to Alabama where the pace is much slower and the air is much more fresher. We were pulled over for "speeding" years ago. That cop sat there waiting for speeders, except it was right after a curve that forced you to slow down anyways. So unless you decided to drift in that curve, you went the speed limit automatically. We told him right there and then we'd fight it. He marked it and about a week later we got a letter with our court date. We went, stated the facts and since the cop didn't show up, we automatically won.

Yep I fought a handicapped spot back years ago. It was raining and there was standing water on the ground making the sign on the floor unable to see that it was handicapped parking. There was no pole as by law you have to have one. When I got back to the car I saw the ticket. Fought the ticket had to present my case and I submitted the pictures and the law it got dismissed.

Good for you! I had to work once as a replacement manager in a town about 2 hours away. Their whole downtown was 2 hour parking. Even for the area reserved for employees. They had parking meters and every 2 hours you had to leave your job and go put money in the meter.

When I was first married, I was in a small accident and was charged with it. In my defense, it was twilight raining and the guy was driving a grey car and I didn't see him - no way to know if he was speeding. The cop gave me 2 tickets - one for the accident and one for driving on my out of state license in my maiden name. Cop kindly told me that the other guy would probably not show up in court. I went to court and the other guy wasn't there so the ticket for the accident was dismissed. Then the judge asked why I hadn't gotten a new license in Illinois with my married name. I told him I didn't know I had to do that. He YELLED at me - "DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO TELL YOU EVERYTHING???"). Then he dismissed that ticket, too. In the movie THE ALAMO, John Wayne said "You gotta hit a lick against what's wrong!! Good for you guys!

We were travelling in the US a few years ago in a hire car. We came to a carpark in San Diego where you had to put your car details and money in an envelope and put it in a box. We got a fine. The office for the car park was nearby, but of course they werent open. We waited a while but to no avail. So we wrote a note and put it under the door. Thankfully we heard no more about it. Glad you used your voices and I agree with both of you..it is just plain stupid and I waste of time and tax payers money plus you have to request your money back it should have been issued with the dismissal paperwork now you have to wait another two months to receive a refund.!
